I've never reviewed a board game before, so please let me know how you liked this video! Would you like to see more? What could I do differently/better if I wanted to talk about another board game? Thanks, everyone!
You did a pretty good job, actually. Maybe you could have gone a bit more in-depth when talking about the game mechanics, and for a bit of extra fluff maybe talk about the game tokens themselves and what you'd do to improve upon the game. Maybe even share some fun ideas you have on house rules.
How were you able to peacefully get through a board game as a small child? I have very vivid memories of never being able to get through a game of sorry because someone would draw a sorry! card and flip the board
Moose with another hit of the variety. Awesome. Dont be discouraged from doing any of the types of reviews you do. Its all great. Please dont stop reviewing movies out of fear of what almost happened to Mom House. Love your movie reviews.
Hey, it's Boardtalmoose! That doesn't really work... oh well! Anyway, this was a nice video, Ian! Always fun seeing someone having a good time. If ya wanna make more videos about boardgames, well, i'm game! HA!
I know a lot of hardcore game nerds, and my favorite way to shake up a stale board game day is to break out Mall Madness, which I'm way too enthusiastic about XD. I have the 2004 version, and the Littlest Pet Shop version. 2004 is not quite as "a e s t h e t i c", but it has its own style and has a couple differences to the version you played: First, stopping at (or being sent to) a food shop doesn't cost you money, and it gives you a Food Token that you can use at any time to add up to three spaces to a move. Also, there is a well-defined cast of characters who each fit a different archetype (the sporty one, the sassy rocker, etc) and the items on their list fit their personality. It's a fun opportunity for a bit of light role-playing. So gameplay wise I think it's a bit more interesting if you can handle the Kim Possible look. The Littlest Pet Shop version is a bit weird, but I got it because the board is much quicker to set up (the whole thing just folds right up), which can be nice when people are impatient. Thanks so much for this video!
I love how you keep doing new things, and you keep your core personality and entertainment value dude. Games, old movies, recipes, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, public service videos, its all Bruta..."MY OWN CREDIT CARD"
I USED TO OWN THE HANNAH MONTANA MALL MADNESS!! I have a twin sister, and we would always TRY to play it, but we never figured out really how to play it and we would aimlessly roam around the mall as Miley and her friends and just mess around clicking all the buttons and now knowing what to do. IT WAS GREAT! 😂😂 Freaked our when I saw this in my notifications cause I love this game!!
I love the art design on this thing. It screams "late 80's" so much that I feel like having a cry. Do the later reissues alter the board art at all or is the box cover the only difference?
They did change the board art! Played the 2000s version as a kid and I don't remember it looking like Ian's copy. Plus, I have the 2021 version and the beauty supply store is named Yas Queen
Never played this one as a kid because when you're a young boy growing up you tend to shy away from stuff marketed specifically towards girls, but seeing this now and seeing the rules, I agree, this looks like a really well-made game that anyone could enjoy! :)
I really think girls got some of the best board games during that time, if you could get passed the "tee hee shopping" and "teehee boys" part of the base games were so creative.
Being from a large family of mostly females, and generally having more female friends than male overall, I used to play these "girl games" fairly often with my cousins and friends. Most of the time I was the only guy in the group so I would usually get out voted on what we'd play. I have some fond and funny memories playing this game, that one secret admirer game (can't remember the actual name)[edit: after a quick google search I found the name of it, Dream Phone], and Pretty Pretty Princess.
Pixelmusement I think that's a good outcome of stuff trending towards gender neutral these days. I feel like people should be allowed to play and do whatever they want without others going, "Hey, that's for girls / boys / our one true overlord Cthulu -- you can't play that!"
Ian's channel is by far the best for reviews. there's so much variety! food, video games, movies, board games, yugioh cards - it's like a 5-in-1 package. the best clearance deal. it's madness.
I grew up with the 2004 version, to be honest. The pawns are just cardboard on stands (but there were two pieces for each color and each list had a side for each piece) and the little checkmarks you slid onto the lists did a number on them. However, the voice bank is better quality, sounding like an actual person instead of a robot. There's also a slight rule change involving food. If you enter any store that sells food or are sent to the food court by another player, you got a food token that could be used to add two to your move. Sadly, though, the unique credit card designs are gone. I had fun with this growing up, though. We had a joke where if someone was sent to the bathroom, we'd have the piece "run" to the space yelling "gotta go, gotta go, gotta go". Thanks for the nostalgia, man!
4:03 Hey, that ain't no joke! Being a teen girl in the eighties with your own floor lamp made you a freakin' slumber party beast. Hey brutalmoose senpai, wouldn't it be cool to mod this into a deluxe version or something? Extra game modes, multiple announcer voices, new items at shops, maybe a parking lot mini game w/some of the HotWheels? :0
PrinceOfFALLEN PSN thanks! 😊 Ian's stuff is incredible. I discovered his channel via his appearance in LGR's video a few months ago and very quickly binged everything.
I love the aesthetic off your videos from the cinematography to the editing. You give your all reviewing every piece of midia not just video games. So.. Keep it up the amazing work
i really love how your recent reviews and videos aren't exclusive to video games! your personality is super cool and its nice seeing you do something different. thanks for the laughs, ian. :D
You should do a crossover with Bright Sun Films and play Abandoned Mall Madness. "Attention explorers! The ceiling in the old Woolworth's has collapsed."
Great video! I was really impressed with that cut at 3:39. That is just one example of the extremely nice touches in filming and editing that I watch your videos for.
I still really like Monopoly, but it's SUCH a long game and that really hurts it. So yeah, I'd probably pick Mall Madness since it doesn't take a week to finish a game.
Ian, I gotta say, I've been a fan for almost 2 years now and I'm loving the variey you have on your channel. Whether it's video games, movies, food (which is my favorite so far), or board games in this case, you just have that vibe that makes your videos always a pleasure to watch. Keep on doing WHATEVER you feel like making a video of, man; I am sure I'm not the only one who wants more vids from you, regardless of what the topic is. You were definitely worth the subscription!
I really like all the new things you're trying out. From Food Reviews, to Pack Openings, to today's video. You just make everything work, and I always love watching whatever you put out.
As usual, Ian, your amazing combination of editing, humour, and surprising video topics blends perfectly here. Amazing work as always, please feel free to continue to review board games, this was great!
I had this game as a kid! Hearing the voices come out of the speakers just took me back. I played this game to DEATH, and watching your review, I bet my friends from my board gaming group and I would probably legitimately enjoy it now. Thanks for the awesome video, Ian!
Favorite game as a kid. Still have it today and love having a piece of my childhood. Great description of gameplay and examples. Didn't realize there were so many different copies, so thanks for the game lesson. Loved your video.
Literally you could do any type of video and I would enjoy it. I love your editing style so much. This was great and you should definitely do more videos like this reviewing older board games!
My favorite part of this game is when you engage in combat with another player over shooooes. You can roll a die and the higher number you get the better the weapon you have, roll a 1 you get nothing, roll a 9 and you get a sales sign, and roll an 18 and you get to summon Paul Blart himself to aid you in battle. There's also a random chance of a zombie outbreak occurring, so make sure you always have a stock of orange juice ready at hand just in case.
Omg my sister and I used to play the horrifying 2000's version all the time! It was so much fun even if the player pieces looked a bit like monster women lol
For some reason I feel like I'm watching history being made whenever Ian tries on a new type of video. It was the same with the first brootalfoods, it's just this feeling of purpose all around! I quite enjoyed this one, as expected from Ian.
The local mall here is still going strong. Well, at least the one that didn't get torn down and replaced with stores with only outdoor access, though one of them had pretty nice result (well, two were torn down entirely, another just the indoor part had to be torn down to make way for big box stores).
Qun Mang at least yours replaced stuff with something other than shoe stores. Their are literally 10 shoe stores right beside each other. Who needs that many in one 2 floor mall?
I wanted to play this game *so badly* as a kid and never got to play it! I loved living vicariously through you. And I still want to play too. I love all your variety videos, they're so much fun to watch. Thank you!!
This was great! I would love for you to review more board games, and maybe even go into more detail (nothing wrong with a 10 minute video, but I just always love it the more in-depth it is).
I enjoy your take on the board game. I remember seeing the commercials for these on TV once or twice. Thanks for the memories and keep up the great videos. Also could you do more board game reviews when you get the chance to ?
Another A+ video from the moose! The variety in your content makes me even more excited to see you upload. Thanks for always putting out something you enjoy!!!
Would love to see more board game reviews. My family would play them a bunch, and every so often my friends too, but it's usually just the classics. Ones like these are so cool because the board just looks neat. I wanna stare at it all day
When I saw the title something felt so familiar about the game and had the feeling I’ve played when I was little. I couldn’t quite place any memories until that 2000s cover popped up. I had this and loved it!!! Thank you for bringing back a memory I forgot I had
Dude, fantastic vid! It's nice to see a legit, down-to-earth look over a board game without any satire or without it being a "show." Definitely like your approach and it totally fits your style. The only thing I'd have liked to see on top of it would have been a snippet of everyone playing!
This reminds me.....I need to go to the mall and pick up more exotic parrots and floor lamps.

brutalmoose more would be awesome! All of your videos have just been amazing. Keep at it Ian.
You did a pretty good job, actually. Maybe you could have gone a bit more in-depth when talking about the game mechanics, and for a bit of extra fluff maybe talk about the game tokens themselves and what you'd do to improve upon the game. Maybe even share some fun ideas you have on house rules.
Please do more this was fantastic. Funny and educational
Love the video, the camerawork and editing was steller as usual, mabie upload some board game gameplay to your second channel? : 3
Yes I loved it !
Gosh, I played the 1988 version of this when I was small - we all loved playing it!
livestream of 1988 version + jon + america's next top model.
How were you able to peacefully get through a board game as a small child? I have very vivid memories of never being able to get through a game of sorry because someone would draw a sorry! card and flip the board
Etienne What kind of kid can't play monopoly until they go bankrupt?
You'd be surprised at how impatient me and my siblings were as children.
Hello there Lucah
When I see a new brutalmoose video my delight is immeasurable and my day is saved.

What almost happened?
Who the fuck is Mom House?
What almost happened to Mom House?
Maybe they mean Smart House?
What do you mean what almost happened? Was there a copyright strike or something?
i just like to imagine ian playing electronic mall madness by himself in a dimly lit room (it doesn't have to be his room)
You wake up after hearing a voice in your room in the middle of the night.
"Attention, mall shoppers! There's a sale at... the computer store!"
Hey, it's Boardtalmoose! That doesn't really work... oh well!
Anyway, this was a nice video, Ian! Always fun seeing someone having a good time. If ya wanna make more videos about boardgames, well, i'm game! HA!
Sporetrix I've not seen such bravery. There you go
Would actually be "BoardIan" but that just makes him sound like he's someone from planet "Board."
I have to give you "credit" for that one, althought it makes me a little "mad" ;D

That commercial is just oozing 80s and 90s magic. If you touch it, you'll be craving Tab and neon clothes. You have been warned.
XD
Bryce Mckenzie I've had tab, it's meh.
Because you insert the card instead of swiping it, that means mall madness predicted credit cards with chips
it's not a mall if there isn't a 2nd floor filled with pizza places or a 3 story sunglass hut.
Thomas Jenkins now a days, it's not a mall if half if the original and different stores weren't replaced by 80 shoe stores.
Don't forget a small cell phone stands as far as the eyes can see.
I like the 3 day journey to a fashion boutique.
I never had the table top board game, but I had the travel version that folded up into a glorious 1980’s hot pink cassette tape. I loved it!
You summon a genie and he lets you wish for one thing. What do you wish for?
1) World peace
2) $10,000,000

GigaGiffy I would wish for $10,000,000 so that I could get m y o w n c r e d i t c a r d... then maybe try for world peace... maybe

Same. I always wanted to play it, but would never allow myself to. (That and an Easy Bake Oven.) I think now I may just go ahead and treat myself.
I'm a girl and my grandma got me an easy bake when i was in high school and it was fine the only downside is everything is in tiny portions
I really think girls got some of the best board games during that time, if you could get passed the "tee hee shopping" and "teehee boys" part of the base games were so creative.

*That voice reminds me of the Intel-voice from the intellivision. “B-17 BOMBER”*
I almost bought a copy of this at a punk rock flea market last weekend. I regret not getting MY VERY OWN CREDIT CARD.
Obscur the Bird What makes it punk rock specifically?
Instead of terrible music played loudly, it is terrible items sold loudly.
Ah yes, a game about consumerism, the most punk rock thing in the world.
Ian's channel is by far the best for reviews. there's so much variety! food, video games, movies, board games, yugioh cards - it's like a 5-in-1 package. the best clearance deal. it's madness.

"its estimated that in 2022 one in every four malls will be closed"

mmmmm yeeeaaahh they're not wrong in estimating that.
Exactly what I was thinking
The pandemic definitely accelerated that figure
I grew up with the 2004 version, to be honest. That story is absolutely amazing
Also grew up with that version! Whenever my family and I are shopping, we always mimick the announcer if we see a sale or clearance.
I still sometimes imitate the "Hey, this is on Clearance!" Whenever I see something on a Clearance sale. [Insert Sears here]
4:03 Hey, that ain't no joke!
Sweet, board game party at Ian's! I'll bring the pizza dip.
You mean PIZZA PIZZA
Ill bring the Mac'n- Cheetos
ill bring the tuna noodle

Felix Charles Eating an entire set of checkers is better than monopoly.
I still really like Monopoly, but it's SUCH a long game and that really hurts it.
So yeah, I'd probably pick Mall Madness since it doesn't take a week to finish a game.
Mall Madness doesn't have a soul-stealing tophatted man trying to steal your money every turn, so I'd be inclined to agree.
Yes, At least MM is not based on exploitation, illegal economic practices, gentrification.
Ian, I gotta say, I've been a fan for almost 2 years now and I'm loving the variey you have on your channel. Whether it's video games, movies, food (which is my favorite so far), or board games in this case, you just have that vibe that makes your videos always a pleasure to watch.

I've not seen such bravery

Alas, the bravery is everlasting, but the sound bite is sorely missed.
Favorite game as a kid. Still have it today and love having a piece of my childhood. Great description of gameplay and examples. Didn't realize there were so many different copies, so thanks for the game lesson. Loved your video.
You should review the board game dragonstrike. It’s an rpg adventure from the 90s that comes with a cheesy VHS tape :p
"Hey shouldn't we paint our board to make it more appealing"
"Nah, just slap some pink stickers in the box so we can get more money"
"OK"
Yes, it’s very aesthetic af.
No, sorry I don’t! But if you find out I’d like to know too!
I owned this exact version. Hearing the voices talk on the speaker really brought me back to late nights playing this with my sister

Board game reviews? BOARD GANE REVIEWS!! I don’t know what this new direction is but I love it
Geezy, I remember those commercials like yesterday. I'm getting old... anywho, I would love to see more board game reviews! This was brilliant!

Mallception!
I'm.... I'm sorry about that.

It sounds like debt.
It would be like playing in a mall I bet! I wonder what the mall would be like if you played mall madness inside of it?

Omg my sister and I used to play the horrifying 2000's version all the time! It was so much fun even if the player pieces looked a bit like monster women lol
love all these nostalgic reviews! cook books? board games? always full of detail and enthusiasm!
Heard about this on stream archives on moose2, nice to see it!
1:45 I love the unboxing music fits very well and also nice transition
I'd love to watch a zombie mode mall madness playthrough- Halloween stream idea?
I would love to see more board game reviews! Honestly, every video idea you've come up with, I've found entertaining! Keep up the good work, Ian!

Yoooo I played this game as a kid! I still have it somewhere...
Would love to see more board game reviews. My family would play them a bunch, and every so often my friends too, but it's usually just the classics. Ones like these are so cool because the board just looks neat. I wanna stare at it all day
You need to stream gameplay of this, I'd watch. Would be interesting to you see play a board game with others.
When I saw the title something felt so familiar about the game and had the feeling I’ve played when I was little. I couldn’t quite place any memories until that 2000s cover popped up. I had this and loved it!!! Thank you for bringing back a memory I forgot I had
This was so wholesome and pure, thank you. ❤️
oh my god you've reawakened my long forgotten memories of the sweet, capitalistic sin that was hannah montana mall madness
I heard "its Mall madness" as "its all magnets" and later "its all madness"
Dude, fantastic vid! It's nice to see a legit, down-to-earth look over a board game without any satire or without it being a "show." Definitely like your approach and it totally fits your style. The only thing I'd have liked to see on top of it would have been a snippet of everyone playing!
