Dearest Julie, you’ve done a MAGNIFICENT job with your Italian Retreat. I absolutely love it ❤❤. Have you ever heard the expression “EVERY KITCHEN NEEDS A CHICKEN”. It’s an American saying. Now, with your hand painted chicken dishes, you have your American born heritage with you in Italy ❤. Your Sycamore, Illinois friend 💕🙏🙏
For marble stains, make a stone poultice. Cover with a thick paste of water and bicarbonate of soda and place some plastic wrap or similar on top to prevent the paste drying out and leave to sit. Check every few hours to see if it is done. You will see the stain being pulled up through the bicarb.
You have truly done a marvellous transformation Julie. The only thing missing is a wood burning stove in the kitchen it would have looked beautiful and made the kitchen very cosy however it may not have been possible or perhaps that part of Italy doesn't get cold enough.
Very lovely! Have you considered adding a row pearl/white tiles above the blue tiles below the stove hood? The narrow white rectangle of wall looks unfinished, continuing the tile to fill that small space would help complete the look.
Porcelain tile floors, wall sconces in bathroom with Murano mirror, Laundry room transformation, photos you took and had framed, bed frame in master, wall colors, staircase painted and sisel carpeting, marble topped coffee table in LR, let’s not forget the kitchen, Julie, you are such an inspiration. You have a tremendous eye for decor and up cycling has been a great learning experience for me to borrow when decorating. You have achieved an extraordinary Italian House for you and all of your family and friends. Bravo!
Bravo Julie! You’ve created a cozy, beautiful Italian home for you and your family. Thank you for sharing your journey, excursions, renovation work and design ideas. Most of all, sharing your dream and inspiring us all❤️🇮🇹🌻
You can really tell this was a labour of love. Every detail well thought out and well placed. Excellent work and I’m so happy for you that you get to enjoy your time there! ❤
I'm surprised people think the couch in the kitchen is controversial. When you have a holiday house you need as many places for people to sleep as possible. It makes sense to have it there. Plus it's a nice relaxing place to sit and chat with the cook
I would add a rod that is made for pulling curtains. Especially useful for tall windows. You will also find the middle edge of the curtains will get grubby as your hands will always go to the most convenient spot and over time it will show.
Julie! There’s rubber matting you can buy that goes under mats and carpets as an anti slip so it holds them down for safety, I find on that kind of tiles everything moves.
So lovely!! That marble sink is such a great find! We bought a Carrara marble remnant for our bathroom countertop and got it at a discount because of a stain. I soaked some paper towels in peroxide and left them on top of the marble overnight. It took a couple of times, but the stain is gone!
Easy way to remove stains from marble is to make a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste. Slather it on then cover with Saran Wrap and use painter’s tape to tape it down. Leave for a few hours then rinse.
It’s absolutely lovely! I would just love to see lots of potted flowers and perhaps some climbing vines with florals on the railings of the roof top…the space is begging for flowers ❤. Great job-blessings
Thank you so much !! I love everything, especially your kitchen !!! I absolutely do not understand why anybody cares if you have a couch in your kitchen. I've watched you working on these rooms, and to see the (almost) finished product is just a joy. So many great finds, and I've never heard of an online flea market.
Dear Julie, you have created such a special, well thought out, beautifully painted and decorated Italian home for yourself and family. You took such care in sourcing everything and I absolutely love the charming tableware that you and Luke selected together. Perfection and well done! Congratulations 🙂
just got back from my first visit to Italy (Rome and Florence). So miss the bells. Can’t say enough about the great aesthetic you created. What a life!
You House in Fivizzano is so elegant and super-comfi all at the same time. I feel the same vibes as the Holydayhouse of myngrand-ma on the Italian side of Switzerland. Among other things, the walls painted halfway up. Thanks Julie for taking us along. So Heartwarming!
Oh Julie you have great taste! I love everything you have done in this lovely house. Oh, and I LOVE the couch in the kitchen. It makes total sense to me...people can relax while cooking is being done, have a chat during a dinner party...it's totally practical and doesn't look out of place.
Julie your Italian retreat is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing the entire transformation with us. I have so enjoyed searching the outdoor markets and flea markets with you. Watching you find what you were looking for, the restoration, seeing it all come together has been ever so interesting and informative. May your lovely home be filled with beautiful people and memories. 🏡💕
Fun story, I remember when you first got this place. All the fun things you said you would do with it. It looks fantastic! Then I started watching this lady do tours of different castles and old buildings and how fun she was to watch and listen to talk with such passion. Turns out it was you! I'm so glad I found this channel again. Your home looks amazing and all the wonderful finds you have gathered work really well for the spaces. Keep up the fun, you are amazing.
Especially love the kitchen eading nook once you get a larger table top and redo the chair. I could just see sitting there with cookbooks deciding what to make for dinner that night.
Absolutely wonderful; such a treat to see you filling the cabinet. 🥰 Only thing I'd add would be a brolly for the bistro table on the balcony. Thanks for the tour, Julie...love the hat!
Julie you must be incredibly proud of your accomplishments. Your house is so beautiful. You have a wonderful eye for decorating. I love that old daybed. Here in Newfoundland older generations often had them in the kitchen for lying down after a big meal. 😆 A couch in the kitchen is a nice addition. People generally gravitate to the cooking areas. It's all so very special. 🥰
Every time I see front door... I picture Julie when she was so excited about finding & putting up, her new outdoor light fixture!!! Job well done! Great home that inspires me for my post retirement move in about 17 months... to Italy!!
The house is absolutely magnificent and is a reflection of you and your personality, which is exactly what it should be. There’s one thing I am not exactly excited about and that are the mirrors you’re planning on putting up in the kitchen. I just cannot make it work in my head. But I am not there to see the space. Everything you have done so far absolutely works. You deserve to be excited about your house.
An interesting thing happens periodically throughout your video, a British accent comes out. Anytime you said “all” or “wall” for example. Quite a unique mix to hear!
It’s absolutely beautiful. I love how it has all just come together so lovely and cozy. My family had a small cabin on the ocean for over 80 years. So many happy memories there. I hope your family has as many happy memories for years to come in your own family little getaway. It truly looks like a home away from home. ❤
I think your Italian home is beautiful. I can say only positive things about your home. There’s not one negative statement I can say. May you enjoy this beautiful home. You were lucky to have found great construction workers etc. also, you were fortunate to have found many fabulous antiques. You have used your imagination and creative eye in decorating your home. Julie! Your home is magical because you have found that hard to obtain style where it is esthetic, charming AND practical. The couch in your kitchen is my FAVORITE thing about your house. I’m charmed by the old world concept that people ate, slept and lived mainly in their kitchens. I have been waiting since you brought it in about your chair project and hope we get to see it reupholstered soon! Very exciting.
A simplified Al Fresco type painting in the white area over your stove would be beautiful and tie the kitchen into the other rooms (and the kitchen sofa) - you could even "age" it a bit so that it looks like a part of the original house.
Hello Julie, thank you for showing us through your beautiful home. I think the lovely patina on the bathtub was best choice as it’s striking and matches decor. Loved your photographs that you took in the bathroom. Love the stairs and jute runner. You can get thin clear plastic sticks that you use to pull the curtains across. Well you’ve encouraged me to learn a language. Love your dishes so quaint. Enjoy many happy family meals on them.
It's such a beautiful cozy, homey, home! I'm glad you got rid of the stone on the long wall in the kitchen. Looks much more fresh and open with that gone!
Finally...your dinnerware has arrived!! SO excited for you! I had forgotten the design-lovely, and so cheerful, as the Italian sunrise. Have fun using them as you enjoy your friends and family. What a project! WELL DONE.👍👍
How absolutely beautiful….my family and I lived in India (we’re Australian) for 8 years….i love how you’ve incorporated your travels and found pieces into your decor❤
It has been an absolute joy to watch you transform your Italian house with such a great degree of creative sensitivity, turning it into a warm, inviting and very comfortable home. You asked for suggestions, and I thought adding to the rooftop balcony's visual aesthetic a colourful mosaic/mural on the weathered wall behind where your potted olive trees are currently, would elevate, embellish and add ambience to the rooftop space. I can only imagine how busy you are, but it would be a fun project! 🩵 Thank you for sharing your journey and congratulations on all you’ve achieved! 🥰
Dear Julie, this little italien home of yours is so cosy and designed with a lot of love. The kitchen is literally the ❤ of the house. I understand why you love the terrace so much the sounds of 🔔🔔 is solemnly ❣️ Liebe Grüße aus Germany
Your Italian home is lovely. We are slowly renovating our current home in Kentucky. This is our 4th renovation, and I'm fortunate that my husband can do most of the work . I already use a mixture of antique/found and new furniture. You have inspired me to branch out into art, especially local art: new and thrifted.
I love sofas in kitchens! I grew up with a love seat with a side table and lamp in my dad's kitchen. It is so cozy and you can hang out when someone is cooking and cuddle up with tea before bed. Love it. It is a thing!
There is a good poultice cleaner for marble. Once done ask about a marble sealant. It is invisible…as a sink it’s susceptible to staining from oils etc, can be unhealthy if left raw. Our last home we had a marble top and sink. Don’t keep any lemon or acid based cleaners in your kitchen.
Hi there, Im a retired Spatial Designer (now an organic farmer) and one of the tricks I would use for restoring stained marble, granite and quartz was to use neat bleach (undiluted) I would do a test patch with a cotton swab and wait 48 hours. 99% of the time it removed the staining. Its also a good trick for crazed/stained porcelain. But dont use it over painted areas of porcelain as it will change the colours. I enjoyed your tour of your wee house. Very pretty and yet practical. :)
Two design suggestions for you consideration: 1) Kitchen: Paint the entire hood the green of the cabinets - you have everything else painted that color. It looks so bad now because the cooker is a yellowish vanilla color which clashes with the white on the hood. So paint it green & put up the beautiful blue platter as planned. 2) Please cover that horse hair chair with SOMETHING until you get it redone - perhaps have an upholsterer in Fivizzano do it sooner. 3) Terrace: I think a lovely large mirror on the wall behind the drinks table would be perfect!
Right now the white hood does stick out. Perhaps when it’s painted light gray or oyster and then hanging the blue bowl, it will kind of match the blue tiles at the top border of the backsplash. The cupboards were all very purposefully painted to show some wood grain and if the hood were painted green, it would not match the cupboards (being flat paint with no wood grain) and would stick out in a different way - and the blue bowl would not look as nice I don’t think.? Try the light gray or oyster first, hang the bowl and let’s see once!
@@AmericanViscountess Paint it a light grey but please don't stick anything on it as it looks nice as it is a resting place for the eye. It definitely should be left as is otherwise your room will look cluttered. If you have a spare cupboard, then store things there & change them over from year to year which is what I have to do as I only live in a small space & changing pictures or ornaments from time to time creates a new look. Also do not hang a mirror outside on your terrace as it will only confuse birds if you have any in your area. Or it will reflect light onto other people's space & upset them.
You may need to lift the olive trees and empty the water out of the dishes after a few hours as most plants do not like to sit in water. It is a beautiful spot to sit outdoors =well done.
Love your little Italian house! The placesettings are the absolute perfect touch of whimsy! Please stand a couple up behind the stacks so they can be appreciated.
Fabulous! I’ve watched all your videos as you did the renovation and I still saw items that I didn’t remember before. Love everything! You did a fantastic job! Love love love your dinnerware! Can’t wait to see your cushions. ❤️
The very first thing I would have done immediately upon receiving the entrance key, would be to make sure I have coffee/tea available! I couldn't imagine or renovate without it! Lovely space you have dear! I like the rock wall, and hoped to see more of it, but your creativity is a blessing! 😉❣💭🙇♀💅
I will need to redo our house in France. I will be referring back to your video for inspiration. Really gorgeous! Yes, La Rochere is the oldest glassware company in France, 1475! They were about to close many years ago and a wonderful woman bought the company and revived it. They still use many of the original molds.
Julie, your little Italian house has turned out to be beautiful! All of your ideas, dreams, and talents all come together to make for a cozy peaceful getaway! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻

Two design suggestions for you consideration:
1) Kitchen: Paint the entire hood the green of the cabinets - you have everything else painted that color. It looks so bad now because the cooker is a yellowish vanilla color which clashes with the white on the hood. So paint it green & put up the beautiful blue platter as planned.

I agree, and would add there is too much hanging on the living room wall over the sofa and looks cluttered.
Hi! and thank you! I'm going to paint the hood the same colour as the wall - a light grey. And the chair is about to be re-upholstered so stay tuned!
She’s not so good with color 😱 but she’s great with upcycling!
Beautiful home! Perhaps paint the white space above the cooker the same buttery yellow as the cooker. Then hang the beautiful plate.
You may need to lift the olive trees and empty the water out of the dishes after a few hours as most plants do not like to sit in water. It is a beautiful spot to sit outdoors =well done.
Thanks for the tip!
I love to decorate with antique pieces & my style is eclectic too. This way you have a species that is Not like everyone else’s & has a homey feel
Well done you! Congratulations on the transformation. What was the final outcome of the surprise cantina area under your building, was it yours?
wonderful house well developed full of treasures - a joy to watch your joy ❤👍
Thanks so much!
Love your little Italian house! The placesettings are the absolute perfect touch of whimsy! Please stand a couple up behind the stacks so they can be appreciated.

Yes! Thank you!
Fabulous! I’ve watched all your videos as you did the renovation and I still saw items that I didn’t remember before. Love everything! You did a fantastic job! Love love love your dinnerware! Can’t wait to see your cushions. ❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
The kitchen is amazing. I really love the floor! Beautifully done
Julie, your little Italian house has turned out to be beautiful! All of your ideas, dreams, and talents all come together to make for a cozy peaceful getaway! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
