I’m happy to find another channel where somebody plays and EVH amplifier. I can’t believe I’ve had this amp for more than two years and I never noticed the settings actually say off and up. Really cool video and I am hoping to see future contact from you.
I turn everything to off and work upwards from there treating the EQ knobs like they are also gain knobs because the amp will hiss if you start at noon and go up from there. This amp is counter-intuitive and that's a learning curve. The manual doesn't make it clear that the EQ tone knobs should really be set to 1 or 2 and then slight increments to adjust to taste. It's a monster high gain amp and the red channel is a true tube screamer inside so you don't need a pedal with it. I don't even need a noise gate with mine anymore when I found out about how sweet spots can be dialed in very low.
Great video man! I have the 5153 6l6 112 combo amp. I play a 7 string prs with the alpha and omega pickups. I struggle trying to get a tone that I like at band volume. At low volume it sounds great. But when I crank it up my palm mutes and tone changes completely. It almost gets real muddy. I've also noticed it has a boxier tone as well when turned up. I wonder if I just dont like the speaker or maybe the speaker is not broke in well enough yet.
Thank man ! Have you messed with the resonance knob in the back ? Try that. What speaker are you using ? Speakers affect the tone in a major way. I am using a Celestion Lynchback here.
@@RockGuitarSchool Its the stock speaker that came in the combo. I thought about swapping it out. But I live nowhere near any Music store where I could try different speakers. So I honestly dont even know where to start. I play alot of modern metal.
I just updated my set up. I bought the EVH 5150 2-12 with the 6L6 tubes, that in itself was a massive improvement from the fender frontman R12 I’ve had for years. The icing on it all was upgrading my pickups from the EMG 81-84 Set to the Fishman will Adler Humbuckers. Now I have a searing tone like noting I’ve ever heard, topped off with the EVH phaser peddle. 😮
Sounds really great, I need more mids, I think cause I am old and its a good zone for my hearing. I agree with the highs and lows, I've alway run them around noon give or take depending on the guitar I'm using. The only thing that scares me about this amp is I worry I'll have to take a second mortgage out on my house to retube this beast. Not had any issues so far, it is an extremely robust amp. I really like what your getting out of your cab, plenty of thump without the mud. Congrats on a great tone!
Nice vid. I prefer a more crunch/less treble tone, so I do the opposite of what you are doing. I bump up the mids (which cuts through the drums and bass frequencies live), and lower the fizzy sounding treble. The bass is about even with the mids; or slightly lower. BIG sound.
Just got this amp and best feature is the EQ. Really gives you a ton of versatility. Great video thanks!
Enjoy !!

Man that’s explained perfectly !
I think you just saved me from trading or selling mine.I can't STAND THAT HISSING and I want ALL THE POWER I paid $1,500 for on my 50w 5150 6L6.

Turn your resonance knob down to 9 o'clock.
Incoming. Stay tuned

Try using a boost in front the blue channel. Also set your EQ at band volume not at low volume.
What are you running for effects? Sounds great I have one as well
What delay are you using in the background ?? Sounds awesome .
TC Electronic Flashback. Thank u !!

Thanks man - Funny you mention that because that’s what i’ve been doing lately. New video coming soon
Is your resonance on the back cranked up all the way?
I believe it’s set at 10 o’clock in this video
@@RockGuitarSchool Sweet Thank you. I have the EVH Iconic and the 6L6 as well as the EL34 and the EVH Lunch box love the EVH amps.
Have fun !!
Did you have to order the white deck custom?
The amp comes in white or black
@@RockGuitarSchool I thought so but Sweetwater did not allow me that option.
I suppose I should add this for more information. Sweet water said that the white overlay was only available in the 6L6.
Correct only the 6L6
Great video, but im a bit disappointed that you're using a strat.
Check out my other videos where I use other guitars. Thank u !
