@@carlrosenzweig1867 Yeah, me too. But it is definitely a cultural thing. No one told me about lotion, but, like Bill, I just wondered why I was itchy in the winter.
@@williamgullett5911 I've enjoyed everything I've seen from Chappelles show, but I don't think I've ever actually sat down and watched all of them all the way through. I don't remember that character. Same thing with Key & Peele.
my black friend had to sit me down and explain this shit to me. the entire time he was looking at me like a special needs kid that was drooling on a checkers board but he was right!
So true! As a white guy I did not know about “Ashy” until Bill Burr. So I go to one of my black friends and I am asking him about it. Of course he was laughing at me. Says it is true and telling me about coco butter lotion. I guess I missed that seminar.
I was in late 20s before a black friend said to me 'black folk get ashy' as he was rubbing baby oil on his legs. I remember not getting what he was talking about but just letting it go. Later that summer I heard another friend dog his younger brother for his ashy elbows and the younger brother immediately going to the car and getting lotion. I guarantee there are a LOT of white folks over 50 that never heard of it until they watched this. Just goes to show, you got to have all kinds of friends. We learn the most from other people and the less you have in common the more you can learn from each other - if you try.
There's been a few reaction vids from other pairs and groups of black folk, now. And I feel like those (and of course yours included) are the ones I can appreciate the most, because it immediately shows your character if you can laugh at it and even have some input, either during or after, giving your view. In today's social justice warrior culture, where mainly white people always try to take offense for other people and explain why something is racist to them, when clearly plenty of black people (or other ethnicity they think the jokes are offensive to) actually have a good time with it. It's refreshing.
A black girl friend of mine introduced me to Shea butter. I love that stuff now. Aftershave balm with shave butter is awesome. Haha after listening to Bill, I’m thinking I have to start moisturizing more. Great vid
Just subbed to your channel! Been loving your Bill Burr reactions! You gotta see him live the next chance you get. I’ve seen him 3 times, and I was in tears laughing from start to finish 🤣
You two are bringing this world together. If you can listen to a white guy goofing on black people and not get offended, I love. I'm kinda new to you guys but one of my favourite parts of everything you do is just the feeling i get when I see your thumbnails, your genuine happiness gets me in a good mood every time
That was really funny to watch. I'm Swiss and although I didn't knew to the word "ashy" but if you go to the mountains in the east part of the country, where my family comes from and where I spent all my summer holidays... your skin will literally get ashy and you need to use lotion or else it will get to a point that it hurts. The air up there is super dry. Thanks for your insight!
An African American co-worker said something about being ashy one day. We were obviously very bored, there was no work to do. I said , white people get a ashy too. She looked at me like I was crazy. 😂 I was like no, really. My shins look like alligator skin in the winter time. Working in a diverse environment is awesome, especially when it's seasonal and there is very little work or no work to do during certain times. You get to know people around you really well during those slow times. Had some very good and often times enlightening conversations with people of every age, race, and walk of life.
And, now I can't stop hearing it. Every other show I turn on has one black person calling another "ashy". Heard it on Lovecraft Country the other night. I blew soda out of my nose. You owe me a soothing nose spray.
Best fight songs: Pantera's- 'Domination' ' I'm Broken' ' 5 minutes alone' & ' Walk'. Pretty much 70% of their Album catalogue makes u want 2 put your head or someone else's through a wall!😅
Great to meet ya, Love the vid and cool reaction. My fight theme song would have to be from Pantera for sure, Maybe Walk because of it's intensity. Cheers
Hilarious. I knew "ashy" from the Chappelle Show, Ashy Larry. But I always thought lotion was just a women's thing, for the scent and smooth skin or whatever. I never knew any of this stuff until I saw this Bill Burr bit. Next mystery that I have to keep pretending isn't a mystery, is why does Craig's dad from Friday sleep with a sock on his head? I asked a black friend one time, he said something about getting "a wave". And I pretended to know what he was talking about. Literally, when I saw that movie as a kid, I thought "Oh that's smart, he sleeps with a sock on his head so his hair doesn't collect debris while he's sleeping"... Like he'd wake up with a candy bar wrapper stuck to his hair. In the same conversation he told me his mom "used to have a box". Which I took to mean "my mom used to have a vagina", and it was another confusing exchange.
The first time I ever heard about lotion was when I was 17. I was your typical white teen guy and was working at a cleaning company. most of the rest of the cleaning crews were black and there were lotion bottles everywhere in the downstairs room where we got the crews together. This one woman was applying Corn Husker's Lotion (Thick, jelly like lotion that stays on for a while) and saying the dry air had made her "All Husky" (ashy). I didn't say anything, but I realized the obvious thing that her skin and mine were pretty much the same aside from melanin content. I've used lotion ever since. It does stop the itching, especially in the dryer winter months.
Lolol in 8th-10th grade my group of friends would always have roast sessions at lunch and who ever was ashy...would get destroyed. 😂😂😂 its so funny bc Ive always poured Cocoa Butter lotion all over me since I was a kid. Haha I guess I was a lucky one bc I knew about the wonders of lotion. 😂😂
