    How do Manchester City improve a team that just won the treble?
    Well, true to form Pep Guardiola has already started dismantling the record-breaking side, with captain Gundogan heading to Barcelona.
    So with other members of the team rumoured to be leaving, how can Man City replace them, or even improve them?
    Jon Mackenzie has some suggestions.

    • @leonowski9

      True, but I think once Gvardiol is used to the system he'll push Aké out of the first 11. He's underrated as hell but Gvardiol is simply better and has a higher ceiling as he also excels in this LCB/LB hybrid role. He's also faster and more physical than Aké. But Aké will get enough game time next season with 4 possible trophies to win, rotation will be crucial

    • @HenSt-gz7qj

      Got a feeling Pep will just rotate them on the left side or even play Gvardiol - Ake on the left and Dias - Stone on the right.

      No we’re not “absolutely desperate” but Man City are a smart club who unlike many teams don’t wait until they’re desperate for a player and then make a signing. Gvardiol has crazy potential and bringing him in now means he can afford to have a year to adapt while ake is still in his prime. I agree with you, Wirtz would be a perfect fit for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola's style of play. He possesses incredible ball control, dribbling skills, and a wide array of passes that can dismantle defenses. His fluid positioning adds versatility to his game. However, there are some obstacles surrounding his potential transfer, including Bayer Leverkusen's €100 million asking price and interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. Despite that, Wirtz's impressive rankings and market value of €85 million make him an enticing target. Newcastle is also reportedly interested in him. Overall, Wirtz's talent and potential make him a highly sought-after midfielder for top clubs, but not sure if Manchester City would do a gamble on him.

    I have some doubts about the left 8 replacement options listed in the video. Gundogan was really good in all the things mentioned, however he was also able to play as a “la pausa”, a controller in the team. I cannot really see any player listed to be able to play this role. Wirtz would be much better as a 2. option for KDB, while Eze does not have a discipline and patience to slow the play, same with Foden. I think they would rather need a player, who can arrive in the box, can defend against it and controll the play. Pep wants players who will not lose the ball and can calm the play.

    I've come to liking these IRL presentations more and more, so keep up the good job fellas! Man City's sensible transfers is an interesting one as well and I totally agree with the defensive analysis. Although, as a dutchman, i don't think Aké will lose his place to Gvardiol immediately. Especially if Laporte leaves.
    I'm a bit surprised by the Coman recommendation though. He's been prone to injury his entire career and hasn't had a season where he's been undisputed first choice. There's always a little injury somewhere. Also, I wouldn't place him as a top / world class player (or talent). I think he's just a category lower. I don't have the stats in front of me, but when I think about previous big City transfers, I believe they have a different profile as well. Look at Haaland and Grealish for example. Top players / talents in the 21 - 25 age. The same goes for when they bought Aké, Ruben Dias and Laporte. When they buy a player above that age range, it's usually a player who's soon out of contract (Akanji). So, when i think of a potential City winger, I immediately think of the Napoli winger Kvara. However, he might be too expensive at the moment as City rarely through 100+ mil transfers around. Another shout might be one of the Arsenal boys Sake or Martinelli, who have proven PL worthy and fit the profile. However, they are also too expensive... Honestly, Mbappe might be an option next season as well when he's out of contract. And finally a possible weird suggestion, but someone who does fit the player profile, but the position profile not so much: Alphonso Davies from Bayern.
    As for Gundogan's replacement, I don't really understand the 18-19 shots comparison. That's literally 3 seasons ago with a different system, and different players. Also, Gundogan then replaced De Bruyne as he was heavily injured. So, that's a bit of weird comparison for me. I would much more have liked to see his last season's shotmap. I like the Wirtz suggestion and I fully agree with the profile. In addition, I think Musiala might be great in that position as well.

      @mr.Inorichi Рік тому +1

      we'll just have to see, but atm it really looks like the the board will try and get another goalscoring 8 solely because gundo has left. maybe they are thinking long term too with kdb aging and having injuries here and there. then they dont have to worry about playing wingers (or rather players that pep wants to play on the wings) in midfield.

    • @raspberry_picker395
      @raspberry_picker395 Рік тому

      And kdb has/can have similar impact in terms of g/a as gundogan while kovacics role will likely be more abstract as in progressing the ball and functioning as a wall between the defense and attack. And the pairing of a great reader of the game in kdb and a master in carrying the ball in kovacic creates a attacking midfield duo as scary as gundo/kdb was especially when taking the players around them into consideration. Halland and grealish can both greatly benefit from getting space created by dribbler and being fed through balls, which happens when you have players who can break lines like kovacic and kdb

Ake was phenomenal last season, I can’t think of any LB that was as defensively solid as Ake in the whole of last season, he was a rock, throwing his body in the line, fearless and also had some attacking moments especially his goals against Arsenal and Liverpool. Ake and Grealish complemented each other so well and TIFO here just threw all that away.

    • @weeda2008
      @weeda2008 11 місяців тому

      also i think the problem here is that city are still the strongest team in Europe. The whole set up allows for each player to have multiple roles. I have no clue how you got a right winger requirement from Foden sliding in. Grealish only has palmer behind him in that position. the wingers are fine. Silva is unlikely to go to the middle east as he's still a world class player and not ready to play in the 52nd most competitive league. Alverez can slot in behind Haaland. I do agree though that Wirtz is a great shout along with Gvardol but I feel rotten for Ake who had a senstional season and showed that he is more than competent in that left cb role. I think Pep may play Josko in the centre roll and have Ake out left. maybe switch walker and akanji as the case may be.

    People who say City buy the best players therefore success is guaranteed. Let's look at the reality keeping all the biases aside:
    1. City wanted Alexis Sanchez on priority, they eventually loose the race to United he flops, City get Mahrez as 2nd choice who has been brilliant.
    2. City wanted Ndombele, he goes to spurs turns into an absolutely nobody, City turn to Jorginho who they loose , they sign Rodri who was their 3rd choice, who is now arguably the best in the position.
    3. City wanted Maguire - Goes to United .. enough said
    4. City wanted Koulibaly , Chelsea win the bidding war, City get Ruben dias instead.
    Saying City sign the best players only is just another false argument from rivals. City are an incredibly well run club who know how to go about their business.
