Fun fact, survivors of Titanic actually described the ship snapping in half but they weren’t believed because of how dark it probably was when this happened. And this was mostly thought to be a myth until we actually rediscovered the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean, split in two.
I remember watching a documentary where the survivors of the sinking were told there was no possible way the ship broke in 2. That the cold and hysteria made them imagine the Titanic could break. They were gaslit until the wreckage was found decades later
On the flip side I just found out in a very recent documentary that the accounts from passengers stating the ship rose out of the water to a 45 degree angle before breaking could not have been possible, it was closer to 23 degrees at the time it broke. I guess they had some physicists calculate all the factors and it wouldn’t be possible for the ship to raise that high out of the water without snapping. The narrator said most people likely thought the angle was much higher because of where they were located in the water when they break occurred. I just watched it the other day so I’m gonna go in my history and look up the video then I’ll come back and edit in the name of the video Edit: The title of the video is “Titanic Movie Mistakes” by the channel Oceanliner Designs. He talks about it right at the 2 minute mark. Also if you’re into Titanic and other history about infamous shipwrecks this channel does a phenomenal job with visual recreations and finding info that few other documentaries mention. This channel goes above and beyond to give you a deep dive into each event like no other channel does. Being from the Chicago area I’ve watched a handful of documentaries on the SS Eastland(the worst maritime disaster in US history) which killed over 800 people on the Chicago River. I finished that video knowing so much more about the event than I did from all of the other documentaries combined
I feel awful for those who passed before finding out they weren't delusional and crazy and were in fact right. Being told "nah dude, didn't happen, you just imagined it" when you watched as it happened and watched people die, like damn.
The most terrifying part I can think of for this is the drowning for the people who weren’t able to fit onto the lifeboats, even if they just made it. The ocean is DEEP and freezing, and it was incredibly dark, so if you couldn’t get onto a boat you’d die slowly to the cold with nothing but an absolute abyss of darkness in every direction around you. The shock alone would make it nearly impossible to move, so for the next few second to minutes, you’d be stuck with the only sensory input being crying or screaming, and seeing nothing but the pitch black void that is the deep ocean.
@@CamTheWarlockyes only few life boats available even though they had thousands of passengers. Huge percentage of the people died because of the severe cold over drowning . It’s pathetic and also mind blowing how that tragedy could be easily avoided
I studied material resistance for a semester and I learned some things about the titanic that caused it's sink, the ship shouldn't be that damaged with a iceberg, even though it was the best metal alloy for the time, it still is fragile in cold temperatures, another possible cause for it to sink that easily, is that it was used cheap rivets to finish the ship in time, because they run out of the planned ones.
I studied this to. Don't see many people talking about the low temperature brittle failure of the hull materials, which compared to modern ship steels had less than 30% of the tensile strength at those temperatures.
@Alex-op5jw that is the dumbest response ever Edit: he deleted his response so I'll say it. He basically said we should have found it sooner since it was a big ship. But that's a dumb response cause most modern ships are bigger than the Titanic
@Alex-op5jw It was a big ship, but it was missing for 73 years. The only reason it was found is there was a position given in the distress call, which was wrong but close.
To be fair, the Titanic and Olympic’s designs were pretty impressive, especially at the time. A lot of people thought that the ship was unsinkable. They should have put covers on top of the bulkheads to prevent the water from spilling over.
@@happyjohn1656 they didn’t expect that kind of damage to ever befall the ship. I bet they didn’t enclose it because they didn’t expect six compartments to be breached
You forgot the main flaw was that the bulkheads didn't go all the way to the ceiling so water flowed over them filling other compartments down the line.
This isn't a design flaw. It's also called the shelter deck not the 'ceiling', since there are MULTIPLE decks between the bottom of the ship and the "ceiling" or rather, shelter deck, sealing the top of the hull. As for why it ISN'T a design flaw - modern ships also aren't designed with bulkheads that seal at the strength deck. The only exception are the engine and munitions compartments inside warships (for obvious reasons) and personal water craft. Large ships are still designed with bulkheads that only reach up to a certain deck, and they don't seal at the shelter deck.
The main flaw is that a bunch of powerful business leaders that opposed the new federal reserve were aboard that ship. That ship going down changed banking in America forever, Jp Morgan is a genius for “feeling ill” right before getting on the ship.
Fun fact , if the captain did not try to turn the ship away from the ice berg , only the first 3 or 4 compartments would have been damaged and it would not have costed all those lives
She got hit harder than the worst situation her architects could even begin to imagine, and she still survived for almost 3 hours with her lights burning until the last moments.
@@KingdomOfOceanLinersmocking God saying “not even God can sink this ship” only for it to sink on its first run. Almost poetic though pitiful that people still challenge the mercy of God
@@michlogan8856 So let's get this straight. God decided to sink a ship taking thousands of innocent lives with it just because apparently one man said "Not even God himself could sink this ship" So where's the mercy here exactly? That's a really messed up mentality you have there and I hope you realize that Mind you that the man who said that was probably not even on the ship to begin with. It's unknown who he was, but apparently he was an employee at White Star Line (the company that made the titanic)
Whether the ship split in two before sinking was contested, until the wreck was found in 1985 and proved the ship split in two. What many people arent aware of is just how dark it was the night of the sinking. There was no moon that night. The lookouts only realized there was an iceberg when they noticed its silhouette blocked out the stars on the horizon. Many of the survivors were women and children who were far away from the ship when it split. Once the lights went out on the ship, the entire area was plunged in darkness. The craziest part to me is how gradually it was sinking, until it broke in half and was completely underwater in under 3 minutes. I forget who exactly, but one of the survivors who lived in new york couldnt go by the baseball stadium when a game was being played because the roar of the crowd reminded them of the people who went down with the ship. Side note, i was just reading accounts from survivors and one of my favorites basically says " the poop deck was filled with men from 3rd class and there wasnt any lifeboats left. I heard someone yell out " come to the bar!" I walked in and saw the bar tender with a bottle of whiskey in each hand, filling up tumblers in front of him. The bar tender yelled out " she's going down, so drink up!" A fair amount of survivors they pulled from the water were hammered drunk. Lastly, another aspect i dont see mentioned is just how inundated the water in that area was with icebergs. One survivor on lifeboat #15 had counted nineteen icebergs. When the sun began to rise, the survivors were stunned by thd shear amount of icebergs that surrounded them. This is why if you search " photo of iceberg that sank titanic" there are at least 6 photos taken icebergs in the immediate area that are possible culprits. 2 photos showing, what appear to me at least, different icebergs, both reported to have red paint smears on them. Not sure if anyone has yet, but if both could be recolorized to see if the grey hue in the photo is actually red from the ship ( i dont know how recolorizing black and white photos work and if thats even possible. In history, there are a countless number of times when, if just one minor thing or event went a little differently, things may have turned out completely different. This is true for the titanic as well. The titanic had a telegraph machine on board. It was more of a novelty, used by upper class passengers who would pay to send a message. The one on board the titanic had malfunctioned and was inoperable for a few days. The day of the sinking, the operator managed to get the machine working. Since the machine was down, there was a back log of messages that needed to be sent out. The way telegraph machines worked, the closer the source of the signal, the louder it was. The Carpathia was a ship only a few miles from titanic. Close enough were people on the titanic could see its lights on the horizon. The Carpathia wanted to inform the titanic that it had stopped for the night because of the icebergs. When the Carpathia tried to inform the titanic, the overworked radio operator was startled by the extremely loud signal coming from the Carpathia. The titanic operator fired back " quiet, quiet. I am working. I am busy" if he only had allowed that message to be transmitted, who knows how different things could have panned out. ( for those who are somewhat familiar, and wonder why i chose to say "quiet" in leiu of the more commonly quoted "shut up shut up", this is because the phrase shut up has very rude and some what foul and aggressive connotations. In reality, the operator used a shorthand system, known to all operators at the time, of D.D.D. this was used between operators all the time and didn't carry any negative implications, like the phrase " shut up shut up!" does. Side tangent. Its very common for me to hear a kernel of history from an event, decide to delve deeper into and read up on that event, just to find out the original kernel of information that originally sparked my interest was either an over exaggerating, missed the point, or conveys the exact opposite of what happened. It's to the point where if i hear any quip regarding an event in history, im immediately skeptical about the validity to the quip. The most egregious example of this, and bless you if you managed to read this far down, is " we pardoned the ww2 japanese doctors in exchange for their research" this is the most egregious example of " yes, but also no" i have ever come across. Ill explain further to anyone that wants to know
Also, the Californian message didn't mention the location of the icefield. The message was just "MGY MGY MGY MWL Say, old man, we are stopped and surrounded by ice.". Probably the "Shut up" message stopped further contact thus not getting to mention the location. I think Californian should've sent the locations first as priority, maybe that message could've been forwarded to the bridge.

Even after all these years, the story of the Titanic still captures our imagination and teaches us about the power of human resilience and tragedy. History that continues to haunt us.
yeah, tragedy... that both the main chars could have lived, but were dumb enough not to. Dont remember their names, dont care. I saw somewhere that, with a trick using the life west, the plank would have supported them both.
You mean a sink that was planned to make sure certain people wouldn’t survive so a certain bank can have power over our monetary system? The titanic was not accident.
When the titanic was designed they made it to where there was a double hull on the bottom in case of shallow water… but not on the sides… and it scraped the side of the iceberg leading to it failing its maiden voyage
The Titanic had a double hull on the bottom, but not on the sides. If it had a double hull on the sides, there could’ve been a chance that the outer hull only got damaged. A double hull means just like what it sounds, two hulls, or walls, layered on top of each other. The different compartments that can fill up with water are watertight, and they are called bulkheads. 3-4 could fill up, and the Titanic could stay afloat. Also, I really like ur videos, I learn so much from them. I’m also really interested in the Titanic, so I try to learn everything I can about it, and what could’ve happened, or what could the ship have had, to possibly stop the ship sinking, or decrease the amount of people who died.
While building ships they used these large machines that installed the rivets which held the hull together. However in the case of the Titanic the machine they were using was too large to fit into the lower hull. There was a smaller machine, but it was being used on another ship so it would've taken weeks before they could use it. Management didn't want yet another delay since they were already months behind schedule so they ordered the workers to install the rivets by hand. The problem is that the rivets the machines install are much too hard to be installed by hand tools, which meant they had to create a new batch of softer rivets to do the job. The mixture was poor quality however which made them far too soft and brittle. When the Titanic hit the iceberg all of those rivets burst along the hull like opening a zipper and that's why the Titanic sank. I watched an interesting documentary about it and they were able to retrieve rivets from the wreckage using remote controlled submersibles in order to test them.
@@GoodBoyGoneDadThere were a lot of factors leading to the sinking of the Titanic, and this was definitely one of them. I’ve heard about some of the rivets being a different metal to the rest on the Titanic, which did reinforce the Titanic’s hull less than the stronger rivets.
Its theorized that the Iceberg never tire into the steel plates, but instead warped them and popped the rivets out of place. As a result, water began spraying in, possibly warping the plates more due to the speed and force
Historians were unable to confirm until 1985 that the Titanic actually broke in half. That's when Robert Ballard discovered the wreck and took the first photos. The 500 survivors of the shipwreck swore that they saw Titanic break in two in 1912, but the official government investigators refused to believe it. They said the survivors were hallucinating. They could not imagine that a huge ship of iron and steel could suddenly "snap in two."
Not 500, but very less than 50 those were either very close or on the ship till last moments.. Most of the others were already on lifeboats away from the ship, way before final plunge.
@@gokulgopan4397I wouldn't say most of them are on lifeboats since most of them were unable to get into one since there were so few lifeboats available to be used at the time.
@@atlasdgen Yeah obviously he meantost of the survivors not most of the ship. And yes, every person on Earth knows there weren't enough life boats, congrats.
I think I just had a moment of realisation of how incredibly unfathomable that is. And why the titanic is the greatest tragedy and still breaks our hearts to this day.
Fun fact: The iceberg didn't rip into the side of the titanic, it simply ruptured the thick metal plating, popping out the rivets one by one and allowing water to rush in.
Fun fact: if the titanic had not steered to avoid the iceberg and hit it head on, it would’ve only compromised around 2-3 compartments, meaning they could’ve survived
Who even told you that shit? Hitting an iceberg and heading on instead of steering away would've damaged and killed everyone on that side of the ship. What could they even do with the other half? There was no escaping from that. The moment they set sail it was over.

the captain got several warnings about icebergs, but ignored them thinking it wouldn’t be a problem. the crew couldn’t turn the boat in time as they weren’t expecting an iceberg.
It was extremely foggy during that night. Let alone dark. Titanic received a message from a neighboring ship that icebergs were near them. The captain either brushed it off, or didn't receive the information. (I think the latter.) Whenever the person in the Crow's nest spotted the iceberg, he rang the bell three times initiating an obstacle and screamed "Iceberg, dead ahead!" Into the cellphone connecting to the bridge. The ships' rudder was thrown hard to port and the ships' engines were put into full back (reverse) but it was far too late. Lots of people, including myself, believe that if Titanic were to ram the iceberg dead on it would have survived. Titanic's bow was extremely strong.
They were going full speed so momentum caused the ship to keep accelerating even with the rudder pointing left and the engines full astern. And to answer your question, Robert Hichens was a the quartermaster at the time who took charge of the ship’s manoeuvre.
Also, one thing to note, the ship should be able to withstand the impact, but some temperatures inside of it where off, this caused the metal to create "strong points" and "weak points" instead of being evenly resistent. When the strong points got hit, they withstood the impact, but the weak points didnt. If the resistance was even, the ship wouldve not sank.😊
You forgot the fact that the containments weren’t sealed at the top, so once one filled it spilled into the others and multiple were filling at the same time which sped up the process even faster. Many lives could’ve been saved if the tops had been sealed and if they’d thought to provide enough lifeboats for the amount of passengers they were carrying.
It did not tear holes in the hull. It scrapped the ice causing the rivets to pop off. This opened the seems between the hull. Also the water tight comparments went only to E deck meaning it would overflow into the next compartment.
I read the titanic in school and here what i found interesting: 1: they were about 2 people working radio room, and this ship sinking wouldve been prevented if they didnt ignore the california and the carpathia (i think) messages, about icebergs ahead, and the Californian was stopping for a night because they were trapped in a field of ice. But no, instead of stopping they went full speed ahead. 2: the reason most people doed os because they didnt have enough lifeboats. They couldnt stack them because the 1st class wouldnt get a good view, they couldnt put them next to eachother or else the walking space would be small. Also they locked people in rooms, because i guess they didnt want 3rd class in them. They also didnt even fill every boat up… meaning the people locked on the rooms went down with the titanic. And of boats flipped of the waves the titanic made, the people in them drowned because of the water, their bodies went numb.
1. Two warnings regarding the exact icefield Titanic encountered didn't reach the navigation bridge. It didn't go from the Marconi room. So officers were unaware. If they got that warning, they would've slowed down. No warnings they actually got have icebergs in their direct path. As per 11 other captains who testified in the court inquiries, it was standard practice to maintain speed and only stop if they actually saw ice. 2. The number of lifeboats were based on Board of Trade regulations. No ships at the time had enough lifeboats for all. It wasn't less because 1st class wanted clear view. 3rd class were not locked below. All your information is based on popular myths and Titanic movies. They are not 100% accurate.
The *really* sad part of it is that the captain of the ship was believed to sit in his chair as the ship went down, and his bones are probably rusted away, maybe a few cracked pieces but that would be it from the intense pressure above them…

Fun Fact Earlier that day the wireless machine broke! It was intended for it to be fixed in NYC but the wireless people broke the rules and fixed it at sea then no one would know the titanic had sunk until they realised no Titanic ever entered NYC
Not so Fun Fact: Apparently, the ship would’ve stayed afloat if they had hit the iceberg head on because it had a crumple zone in the front much like a car to absorb impacts. This was probably well understood by the crew, but their duty was to save everyone on the ship, and hitting it head on would guarantee the deaths of at least a hundred or so passengers. Additionally, Murdoch quickly made the decision to order that the ship be turned hard to port after the collision, which made the back end of the ship swing away from the iceberg, probably saving hundreds of lives by preventing further damage.
@@gokulgopan4397 well yes, that’s why I said they turned anyway, because it still would’ve probably killed people within the hundreds. However, it would’ve likely caused less compartments to be flooded, keeping the ship afloat
@@TheRockefellas that’s what I said. The crew(Murdoch included) have a contractual and moral duty to do whatever they can to save everyone, so sacrificing the few to save the many would’ve been out the window as an option. Maybe that wasn’t clear.

It’s actually debated whether or not it broke in half like that. Some people from the event say it did, other survivors tell a different story. So whole people think it may have only dramatically split further down into the water before finally being laid to rest with the souls trapped on board

The existence of the coal bunker fire has been disputed. The real design flaw was the fact that the watertight bulkheads did not go all the to the top deck. So, as the bow dipped below the surface, water spilled over the top of each bulkhead and the ship could no longer stay afloat.
And how many people drowned instantly and how many froze to death in the cold 🥶 sea with half filled lifeboats and how some people refused to go back and help this in the water and left them to freeze to death 💀 🛶😢😡
Also there was a ship nearby who was warning the titanic about the ice bergs. The captain of that ship had stoped his ship because of ice bergs but the titanic captain ignored him. And when titanic was sinking and they called the other ship to help them. The other ship thought that those signals are that they are having party or something like that
The ship was the Carpathia and it wasn't the Captain that ignored them, it was the radio operator who was overworked and ignored the transmitted message.
Fun fact: the titanic wouldn't have sank had the captain just hit the iceberg head on. It would've at least given rescue teams much more time to repair damages and save passengers.
Inaccurate, 1. The ifeberg didnt “rip” the hull. It caused the connecting rivets to buckle and the seams between the metal to open. 2. The compartments were not closed like you see here, so the lower it went, water could overflow over the top of the compartment and spill into the next one 3. The compartments go up wayyy to high in the video. In reality they were inly up to a little above the water line
2 problems. 1. The nose compartment was taking on water, you have made boiler room 5 flood even though it wasn’t compromised and the water should tip over the bulkheads, there wasn’t a bulkhead ceiling that stopped flooding. 2. Small animation problem, when the ship breaks the aft end goes underwater.

Ok so with that reasoning 9/11 was also not a sad event, just how the sinking of the Titanic was not a sad event. The loss of hundreds of lives is not sad because it was due to lack if security at the airport which the planes left from and it wasn’t sad that hundreds more died due to the negligence of the crew on board the Titanic.
True, RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean. The largest ocean liner in service at the time, Titanic was four days into her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City, with an estimated 2,224 people on board when she struck an iceberg at 23:40 (ship's time) on 14 April. Her sinking two hours and forty minutes later at 02:20 ship's time (05:18 GMT) on 15 April, resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
The reason the 5 and the 6 compartments where flooded was because there was a fire that weekend the wall and when the first four was flooded the 5th compartment wall was so damaged it couldn’t hold the pressure and collapsed causing the 6th compartment to flood

They forgot the long view goggles
They had used alloy?

To be fair, the Titanic and Olympic’s designs were pretty impressive, especially at the time. A lot of people thought that the ship was unsinkable. They should have put covers on top of the bulkheads to prevent the water from spilling over.
Da titanic
Titanic was impressive, especially compared to what was considered safe 6 years before (See Empress of Ireland)
Why didn't they?
@@happyjohn1656 they didn’t expect that kind of damage to ever befall the ship. I bet they didn’t enclose it because they didn’t expect six compartments to be breached
@@beneddiected modern ships still don't seal off the top of the bulkhead
You forgot the main flaw was that the bulkheads didn't go all the way to the ceiling so water flowed over them filling other compartments down the line.
Thank you! Someone else noticed lol
Why couldn't they flood the back compartments to balance it?
This isn't a design flaw. It's also called the shelter deck not the 'ceiling', since there are MULTIPLE decks between the bottom of the ship and the "ceiling" or rather, shelter deck, sealing the top of the hull.
As for why it ISN'T a design flaw - modern ships also aren't designed with bulkheads that seal at the strength deck. The only exception are the engine and munitions compartments inside warships (for obvious reasons) and personal water craft.
Large ships are still designed with bulkheads that only reach up to a certain deck, and they don't seal at the shelter deck.

@@michlogan8856 So let's get this straight. God decided to sink a ship taking thousands of innocent lives with it just because apparently one man said "Not even God himself could sink this ship"
So where's the mercy here exactly? That's a really messed up mentality you have there and I hope you realize that
Mind you that the man who said that was probably not even on the ship to begin with.
The bar tender yelled out " she's going down, so drink up!"
A fair amount of survivors they pulled from the water were hammered drunk.
Ill explain further to anyone that wants to know
U should make videos

Also, the Californian message didn't mention the location of the icefield. The message was just "MGY MGY MGY MWL Say, old man, we are stopped and surrounded by ice.". Probably the "Shut up" message stopped further contact thus not getting to mention the location.
I think Californian should've sent the locations first as priority, maybe that message could've been forwarded to the bridge.

😢😢😢😢
And bcus of this her sister ship Britannic was built with a double hull (which didnt save her from a mine)
Bro how do you know all this
@@GoodBoyGoneDadThere were a lot of factors leading to the sinking of the Titanic, and this was definitely one of them. I’ve heard about some of the rivets being a different metal to the rest on the Titanic, which did reinforce the Titanic’s hull less than the stronger rivets.

They could not imagine that a huge ship of iron and steel could suddenly "snap in two."

the captain got several warnings about icebergs, but ignored them thinking it wouldn’t be a problem. the crew couldn’t turn the boat in time as they weren’t expecting an iceberg.
1: they were about 2 people working radio room, and this ship sinking wouldve been prevented if they didnt ignore the california and the carpathia (i think) messages, about icebergs ahead, and the Californian was stopping for a night because they were trapped in a field of ice.

Head on would've worked if it was another ship. That's what they built it for. Iceberg collision head on wouldn't have given a good result.

2. The compartments were not closed like you see here, so the lower it went, water could overflow over the top of the compartment and spill into the next one
3. The compartments go up wayyy to high in the video. In reality they were inly up to a little above the water line
The titanic snapped at 23 degrees and this looks like 45 when it snapped.
Yeah, I can tell it would definitely be around 40-50 degrees because of the Titanic Movie
THANK YOU Zack

2 problems.
1. The nose compartment was taking on water, you have made boiler room 5 flood even though it wasn’t compromised and the water should tip over the bulkheads, there wasn’t a bulkhead ceiling that stopped flooding.
2. Small animation problem, when the ship breaks the aft end goes underwater.

i love how people make it to be sad when i reality 90% of the accident /damages is because of negligence
Ok so with that reasoning 9/11 was also not a sad event, just how the sinking of the Titanic was not a sad event. The loss of hundreds of lives is not sad because it was due to lack if security at the airport which the planes left from and it wasn’t sad that hundreds more died due to the negligence of the crew on board the Titanic.
its sad BECAUSE of the negligence. you’re quite literally saying its not sad
IT IS NOT! NATURE PLAYED THE BIGGEST ROLE

That’s was a quote from the movie it’s not known if anybody really said that in 1912
Its so haunting to think about. I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying that whole situation was. All of those poor people 😢
True,
RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Tell me if I am right and that you agree with me
I don't know for sure, but the theory has been debunked before if I'm correct...
Fun fact when the boat broke the bottom of the ship was still attached brining the back down aswell
This is true, and it's because of the Double Bottom! If it had broken off sooner, the Stern would've probably still been afloat.
Correct if I'm wrong though.

@@7shukur done enough research.
The only account of someone saying God can't sink the ship comes from Walter Lord's book A night to remember. It says about 2nd class passenger Sylvia Mae Cadwell's account where when she asked about the unsinkable rumour, a deckhand carrying luggage replied to her God can't sink this ship.
Even this account can only be taken as pinch of salt because it's purely hearsay.
