I have different uses for milkweed. Some are for caterpillar food. Some for seeds. This is some food for thought if you're getting into this long term.

Monarchs are the best!
I love the butterfly videos! 😊😊😊 Thanks
I just had a great idea, recently my dog Charlie had to be put down he was 105 years old, he was weak and didn’t want to eat and drink, he was wonderful sweet puppy and we buried him in our front yard. I’ve been wanting to do something nice for his grave, what I’m planning on doing now is planting milkweed on top of his grave, it would be cool to look out and see milkweed as his grave stone and see some beautiful monarch butterflies and its for a good cause as well.
Beautiful tribute Alex.
Love that
There is a beautiful song from the band Heart called "Dog and Butterfly" I think you will love..
Hi how did it work out?
You do such great work Mr. Lund!!🌱🌱🦋🦋
actually your videos were very helpful for this beginner. Thank you.
Great video! BTW, even if “you” are not on Facebook, every milkweed/monarch group promotes your videos as staple monarch training LOL. Thousands of people reference you daily! (Especially with covid, with lots of people home, groups have grown intensely!) when you are on Facebook, you could have settings like mine. You can find me on Facebook, but unless I accept you as a “Friend” you can’t see anything I post. Hope you have an amazing day and thanks again for all of your helpful information!
You can get an ounce of common milkweed seeds from prairie moon nursery for $8. It's a lot of seeds!
I watched all your monarch videos, took almost a day but I started at your 5 episodes ya did 5 years ago. You've inspired me to help out as much as I can, I noticed where I like Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. We have no milkweed around here anymore. I had planted a few last just because but now I noticed how serious it is, I've got a garden full of milkweed now and just took in 5 eggs after noticing the caterpillars outside were being killed by wasps. But now they have hatched and I am caring for them. I treated the eggs and the leaves. You did and have done an amazing job at sharing what you know, Thank you so much. I'm hoping to take more in when I come across them as I'm unemployed dew to Covid and have all the time to care for them. Thank you again for sharing what you know and doing what you do👍🙂🇨🇦
I connected with my neighbors to give away milkweed plants and seeds on the NextDoor smartphone app.
Mr Lund, we just saw our first Monarch in WV yesterday! and she laid a single egg, so first butterfly first egg 2021! Great video as always!
If you want/need milkweed now check out local native plant venders and ask if seeds are locally sourced. Also join seed trading groups on fb if you want to start from seed.We love turning people on to gardening!!!
Great video! Love the shirt!
Where are the monarchs.. 300+ plants??? Zero butterflies
have you to care of a queen butterfly
I’ve been planting every plant I can find for the butterflies and bees in my yard the past few years. Plenty of clover and Dandelion in my lawn as well. I’m sure a couple of my neighbors are not happy with me LOL
I got free seeds from monarchresearch.org. I think monarch watch does seeds too.
We have a local monarch fest at our conservation center each July that has seedlings for free too so searching your city or area and monarch fest might be a good start too
I have 33.5 acres with boundless Asclepias species. How many do u want and what kind?
My caterpillar looks to big for his install it looks like there's a sixth insall
Question: if some milkweed that has flowed is mowed down, but is growing back right now will those plants still produce seed pods?
Backstory to question: I live in NW Arkansas I discovered some wild Local growing milkweed I saw it flower but then it was mowed down. It's already growing back. Im curious if they will still produce seeds? Bc if they do I want to collect some seed pods so I can establish them at home and other place that wont be mowed. I currently have common milkweed at home but what I've found local isn't common milkweed. It might be white milkweed
Also alot of milkweed ie Asclepias syriaca require cold stratification 30 days for better germination.
What is the cheapest seeds costs
Sir i found a butterfly but her wing is broken. What can i do? I fed her some sugar water. But how times should I feed her? Will she ever be safe to be released. One of her wing is broken. A major part has been broken. She flaps her wings and flies into my palm if I place it in front of her
I'm so sorry that this has occurred. To help a bad situation a bit, I made this video on some options: ua-cam.com/video/XfuTlASal_U/v-deo.html
Fair warning, as it's not a good situation to be in, there isn't really a "good" option. But still, others have found some help from the info in there who were in your same situation. Good luck, and thank you for your compassion with this animal!
@@MrLundScience thank you so much sir. I left her in my garden. She was there for a day. The next day i could not find her. I hope she found some place among the tiny flowers.

Thank you for this video! I have some seeds I did not get to plant last fall due to a broken leg! With guilt I was looking at the bag of pods yesterday, wondering if I should just toss them. I’m going to “shuck” them, cold stratify, and plant them! What’s the worst thing that can happen? I’m out an hour or two.
Jan G. I'm just starting out. I finally found swamp milkweed at my local garden store last year and was thrilled. I had a monarch visit my plants several times this year and found eggs and small caterpillars that I brought in and I am raising by following your videos. Thank you for posting them!! How do you treat your milkweed for aphids without chemicals and hurting the plant? I'm curious. Thank you for all of your videos and information. I am learning so much.
maybe just spray them off with a hose
Mr. Lund, Thanks to you I have been raising Monarchs for 3 years now. The first 2 yrs I had a 100% success rate, This year my first 2 to emerge from chrysalis I found at the bottom of the tent with dying crumpled wings. They obviously didn't/couldn't hang to dry and pump their wings. Have you seen this and what might be the cause? Thanks for what you do!
I collected hundreds of seeds last fall.
There is a website called joyful butterfly, however you would have to pay for the seeds.
My area has a different type of milkweed the leaves are much more bigger
Could be common milkweed. They have some pretty big leaves once established.
I’m raising a little monarch caterpillar I just found it when I was searching for it these monarchs are endangered and all I want to do is try to help them
Hi Mr. Lund, perhaps you or someone on here can provide some info. I have milkweed in a raised bed, and also planted in the ground. The milkweed in the raised bed has pretty much tripled itself by sending off shoots that grow to full size, but the milkweed planted in the ground hasn't sent off a single shoot. Both are more or less full grown, healthy, robust, flowering, and exhibit normal milkweed lifecycle behavior. Both are planted in mushroom compost. The milkweed in the raised bed has no competition and is mulched with wood chips, but the milkweed planted in the ground has some competition with a pollinator seed mix. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks.
I have two year old's making seed pods, so excited. Thanks for the inspiration, always.
Love your shirt!!! 🧪🔭⚗️🌡🔬
could you please send ME some milkweed seeds? Just me. I will tell no one.
Shhh.... I said don't say anything.
So very interesting. Definitely will be searching/getting some seeds for our 4 acres. Thank you for your videos!
