Reflektor, Liège, Belgium, 2023-11-02, acoustic solo show.
Thanks so much to Andy Shauf for coming around a second time this year. This time solo. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly, as I really like the instrumentation with a band, and the perfection in bringing together the tones from all instruments in the whole score. But it seems that Andy puts now so much love for detail in his own guitar play and his singing that he easily and completely distracts from the absence of a band. In fact, the concert was over so quickly that I could not believe it, every note was a celebration :-) Especially the quieter pieces work best, in my feeling. He had a slight cold, and wanted to keep the encore short. At least that was today's excuse for not accepting the wish for an 8-minute Wendell Walker. The audience then let him go after a first encore, and we didn't get to hear The Magician this time around. And we never learnt about the reason for the alarm during "Spanish On The Beach".

Lyrics for "Paradise Cinema" by Andy Shauf (Norm, 2023):
[Verse 1]
Seems like he's falling in love
With every bright smile he sees along the way
Watches you crossing the street
Paradise cinema one for the matinée
[Chorus]
And ready or not
You are his number one
[Verse 2]
One ticket ten minutes late
Three rows behind and the lights are still not down
He sees you turning around
Slides down his seat, tumbles to the ground
[Chorus]
And ready or not
You are his number one
Ready or not
You are his number one
Lyrics for "Telephone" by Andy Shauf (Norm, 2023):
[Verse 1]
I wish you'd call me on the telephone
I want to hear your voice
Reaching late into the night
I would live on the telephone if I was
Listening to you talk about your day
[Chorus]
I nod my head, count the days gone by
Since I held onto your words
[Verse 2]
I used to call you on the telephone
I couldn't catch my breath
To expel a single word
You would hang up your telephone
You always looked confused
Then you'd turn and close the blinds
[Chorus]
I nod my head, count the days gone by
Since I held onto your words
[Outro]
Pick up your telephone
Pick up your telephone
Lyrics for "Covered In Dust" by Andy Shauf (The Bearer Of Bad News, 2012):
[Verse 1]:
Spin my tires
Start my fires
I will wade on through
Castle red
I'll be dead
Long before you
[Chorus]:
I will die a poor man
Covered in dust
Dreaming of you
[Verse 2]:
Tip toes
Plain clothes
I am a closed hand
Chipped brow
Somehow
I hope you understand
[Chorus]:
I will die a poor man
Covered in dust
Dreaming of you
[Chorus]:
I will die a poor man
Covered in dust
Dreaming of you
Thanks so much for this video: paradise cinema becomes an incredible bossa nova
He's as good as it gets.
Thanks for this video!
welcome, glad that you like it :-)
Thanks for sharing! It's really a gift to have his voice and the guitar so close (to try to look at the difficult chords). You have to remember that most of Norm's songs are written on piano, which is why there are notes that are difficult to play on guitar, quite a challenge! Greetings from Chile 💜
Wow! Thank you for “Telephone”! That was my favourite from the set and I didn’t record it, I just wanted to enjoy it!
glad for you :-) yeah, it's hard to not get distracted by recording... i wished i had recorded 'where are you judy'... simply can't record all :-D
@@martinxoxoI think you meant “Judy”. He didn’t play “Where are you Judy”.🙂
@@anaflorentina3747 yes, exactly :-)
@@martinxoxoI posted “Satan” and “Halloween Store”, recorded by me. The’re not as great as yours, but…🙂
