My grandfather served on this submarine. Diesel mechanic working along side the SBS. Such great history. He was in Korea. Much love ❤ Edit: This is across the ferry from Portsmouth in Gosport.
the Red, Blue, Purple 'clocks' are the Decca navigation system, they read radio signals from static transmitters, and use phase comparrison between two (or 3) signals to determine position, you also have a set of maps with the coloured lines marked on to mark positions etc.
Wow that was super interesting Matthew! My Grandfather served on board a submarine in WW2 but never spoke about it so this was fascinating for me, Thanks 😊
me and my family visited this museum back in the 80's and because my dad served on subs back in the 50s and 60s the guide let him lead the tour :) one of my favorite memories!
Mathew thanks for an excellent tour. What a fantastic video. Your knowledge is excellent on submarine instruments. I thoroughly enjoyed your time at the submarine museum mate. ❤👌👌🏴❤️
Hi Matt! Absolutely 💯 thumbs up 👍! As a Steampunk fan I’m all steamed up for this! seriously this is a Plumber’s wet dream! Add some electrical outlets ,..what could possibly go wrong! Love ❤️ you Matt your my #1 hero!
Nice tour Matt, saved me £40 lol😅. My grandfather served on submarines in the first and second world wars. He was on some of the early subs such as K subs and M1. Lots,of disasters in those early days as the subs couldn’t stay under for long and often got lost and even collided into each other. My GF was trapped in a sub on the bottom twice and survived. No wonder he turned to drink he must have had PTSD but back then nobody recognised that, they just never talked about it. Andy UK
Very interesting video, thanks, Matthew, I am glad it was you in that little tin box, I could not go in the because I am claustrophobic, If I ever get to Portsmouth , I will come back with bits of that bronze propeller ££££££ scrap metal 😂 👍👍
Good video matt my mum said she seen that one Holland one being transported from Plymouth up crownhill rd to Portsmouth in the 80s on a lorry in two half’s it sunk of the eddy stone light house in Plymouth sound being transported that’s why it’s in that state intresting video matt 👍👍👍👍
Very interesting 👌 video it's mind boggling how every single component was had made and designed large and small my late uncles job was laying pipes and wiring on newly constructed submarines I'm guessing at Chatham docks not sure😊
Omg Matt what a bloody brilliant video, but my god that entrance fee was abit steep jesus Christ 😱, but loved that really felt like I was there with u, and definitely needed the torch 🔦 too, loved this and thanks for all the history and stuff u explained brilliant mate I💖ps what happened to the sound at the end, hope theres gonna be a part two xx
Very interesting Matt. It just shows how things have progressed the Submarines now are massive. If you look at some of those old Submarines they didn't look very safe at all. The staff there where very friendly.
Thanks Matt, absolutely fascinating and I can't imagine what it was like with the noise, heat etc from those engines. I'd love to see the plumbing and wiring diagrams and I wonder how long it took to learn what all those buttons, valves, gauges etc do. Brilliant.
top video matt-brilliant...the brass cylinder with the patent badge on "Bradford Cylinders"..the engineering works was about 2 miles from where I live,...the old works was demolished about 20 years ago and relocated...they'd Manufacuture a lot of hydraulic stuff......
I want one of those conning towers to go in my deep pond in the front garden . It would have to have a quick acting lift system attached , so that it could scare the crap out of any unwelcome visitors . LOL ! To be honest it is probably too big or the front of my place , so it would need to in the swimming pool out the back , yeah right !
I saw you filming on the day and wondered what you were talking about in the engine room lol. Glad I managed to find your video. The big missile at 12:40 is a Polaris (nuclear) missile, the precursor to Trident. You missed a fair bit in the museum - they had the second stage of a Polaris missile broken up into the separate warheads.
Ok I dare you to take Jordan on this tour!’’’!!’ 😂😂seriously,..u would need to Zio tie his hands!! ROTFLOL oh and his ,..netherworld. Love ❤️ U BeFace!! ,..stupid runt ,..what rhymes with,…runt? ,..hint ,..here’s the C!

If you have not already looked into it HMS Holland 1 was lost in 1913 while it was being towed to be scrapped and it was rediscovered in 1982, so it basically sat at the bottom of the sea for about 69 years
Opossum should of been preserved, she was the last Oberon and longest serving of her type which was refitted for the first gulf war before being decommissioned in 1993 and scrapped at Harry's pound in Portsmouth. My late father was Commanding officer of Opossum in 1965 the same year I was born.
depends how preserved it is im not sure about this one but many were stripped for parts and have been put back together for the museum but usually not to the degree of functionality.
I went on alliance 20 years ago it was in rough shape externally, on entering someone said mind your head and Bang I smacked into some overhead steel I beam with a block and tackle used to load things 😢 I'm only 5'9" so these sailors must have been on top of each other
Dude Gosport is not Portsmouth ! This museum is one of Gosport little Gems. Nothing to do with Pompey. Or though if you watched the Transformers movie they’d have you believe it’s in London. We’re proud of our Naval heritage in Gosport. Pompey has its own museums. Just saying!
I live in barrow-in-furness, top submarine construction facility and all we have is a dock museum which is crap !!, no subs to explore little miniatures of subs and a load of crap stuff!, I worked on submarines for 28 years and we have bugger all to show in Barrow, Keep exploring, ufos subs underground.
loved this but where are the showers and toilets, can you film the port where all the submarines are parked up but no longer used as I love the submarines I own all the movies on DVD of war battles etc, I enjoy your channel and the explores you do ,it does get to me how one male goes with you at times and his stupidity ruins them

Enjoyed that, really fascinating Matt. They’re a special breed submariners, I couldn’t handle being confined for so long.

That was very well presented mat thank you I enjoyed watching 👌

@46:00 into the engine room ❤
The museum is in Gosport, not Portsmouth.
Probably a slight bit of confusion caused by the submarine museum being part of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard group.
When I visited, they had simulated engine sound in the engine room, and the gauges would flicker. Very realistic. I wonder why they stopped it.

Cool video matt love to go visit this one day
Loving the brutal honesty
the bunks are commonly called coffin racks due to the size of a standard coffin size
Very interesting matt
I always find myself wondering if you could put these museum ships back to sea! 😂 just for old times sake!
depends how preserved it is im not sure about this one but many were stripped for parts and have been put back together for the museum but usually not to the degree of functionality.
