12:50 looks to be around MP 126 on the east end of town in Ashtabula 13:10 is CP 132 in Saybrook, which got reduced to intermediate block signals and the siding removed in the 1990s
Cards were stacked against them. Read, "The Wreck of the Penn Central" for details. From government regulation to internal corruption to unyielding unions, they just couldn't get out of the rut. Conrail did an amazing job of cleaning things up.
Penn Central was Doomed from beginning and the addition of the New Haven being thrown into the Merge, pretty much just sealed their fate sooner than expected
Conrail I still think would happen regardless, they had too much redundant tracks. They were in talks to merge all the way in 1957 I think, how did they still end up so bad even though they had all that time to plan
Awesome! So many facets of railroading that are gone forever but the one I miss most is seeing the operator handing on train orders.
You got that right!

Penn Central had everything! It was glorious!

Excellent share, I really enjoy watching, Cheers! (Dave).
This is so cool. Thank you. Especially the Walbridge and Stanley tower shots. Brings back alot of memories.
This is fantastic!
First time I handed up orders I thought I was going to get hit.
@9:00, is that a Gremlin in background?
It is.
Ashtabula harbor hasn’t changed at all still looks the same that line goes to Conway.
Nickel plate steam engine is in Coneaut Ohio .
Looks like that flatcar derailed. Someone must’ve spotted it bouncing and alerted the crew. Then a suit shows up and a block truck.
Sweet!
It's a shame they couldn't keep up the relationship then conrail and Norfork Southern wouldn't took over 😔💔

I want to get in a time machine and go back to the 1970s!
You and me both! But I'd be watchin the Erie Lackawanna down at Marion. Penn Central? Meh.
I assume this was shot just before/after Conrail started up.
@@b3j8 It's a compilation taken at different times.
@@RailroadMediaArchive Ok. Thanks.
THERE ARE OTHER RAILROADS HERE!!
BUT ON PENN CENTRAL TRACKS AND CROSSING THE PC
I'm guessing that this is in the early to mid 1970's
JM tower Ashtabula?
Yes sir I believe it is.
Stanley was looking real rough back then
Everywhere was rough! It was glorious!
