The real knowledge comes when you get to your unit. Basic is basically meant to weed out the weak, get you in shape, learn basic army drills, protocols, and initiate you into army life. Your unit will do things differently than other units. Thats why it's called basic. Because you will learn things everyone needs, like to shoot, move, communicate, and so on. Your unit will show you how to do things the way they do and you'll be able to go home at night unless your doing a FTX, deploying, or other reasons.
Its fascinating how the military attracts the same type dudes (stoners, assholes, rough around the edges type) that end up becoming so tight they'd die for each other and are the definition of professionalism. It's wild.

So I am ancient compared to you. Went through C Co 1-50 back in 2001. That said even though it has been over 20 years I will never forget the speech on 9-11:
Everyone is crying and sobbing right now. You know what that is going to accomplish privates? Absolutely nothing. Now that said if you quit feeling sorry for yourselves if you pull your head out from between your 6th point of contact and listen to what your are being taught we will teach what you can do about it.
Hooah! good luck to all of you.

Good luck my brother. Just realize it's gonna suck. The first day of basic will be the the worst day of your life, but the best day for the rest of your life
