- Nord Wave - Making waves since 2008 - [NO TALKING]
Ah, the Nord Wave, one of my favorites from back in the day! I bought one back in 2009, held on to it for a time, but sold it eventually. I am happy to report that this red beast here I snagged back in 2016. Oh, how lovely this synth sounds! IMO it has the best comb filter ever!
The Nord Wave had some very innovative features for the time. You could connect it to a computer and load your own samples in and use them as oscillators. The Wave Manager software is pretty good even today. It shipped with some Mellotron samples as well! I really love the Mellotron flute, so nice! It has basic FM with 19 two-operator FM algorithms. I hope to snag a Nord Wave 2 eventually, but for now this will do quite well.
I just scratch the surface in this demo, the synth comes packed with over 1000 presets, many are very good out of the box, but in classic Nord fashion the UI is right there for the tweaking!

Nice demo of some of the finer presets. I would probably keep the Wave for the Mellotron layered samples alone. It’s really a fun synth to explore.
Nice! The 1st Wave has also its own things that the 2nd doesn't have!
Yo Janne! Howdy! Yeah, I was just re-watching your demos of the 2, seems like they do have their own thing for sure, all the reason I need to snag a 2 :)
Powerful beast well done for holding on.
Heck yeah! Wave 2 eventually, that thing sounds great also!
First I mis-read the name as 'Nerd Wave' ;) Great sounds BTW. As I remember it should be even possible to load custom waveforms there.
Yo Graywolf! Lol, that's funny. Yeah, it has the Mellotron samples which is cool, but the software editor does let you import wave files that can be used as oscillators. I'd love to get ahold of the Wave 2 sooner than later as well, they really did a good job upgrade it!
Are these presets or custom patches?
It sounds REALLY good. I like how the patches sound both synthetic and organic at the same time, it's a pretty unique style of sound. Hold any key long enough and it seems to move around in some way or another.
I've always liked the Nord Lead, although I've never owned one. This seems pretty comparable, maybe even better.
Haha, Big Smoke is COOL! It sounds like something Trent Reznor would have used on Broken or something.
Hey Adam 👋 these are presets, pretty great set this synth comes with 👍. The synth sounds in some ways like a Lead 2x, but better.. Probably due to the FX, which the 2x did not have. The ability to add wave samples is awesome as well. It comes with Mellotron samples too, which are just so good!
@@MarshalArnold Sounds like a nice synth to have in one's arsenal! I think it covers quite a lot of ground.
been thinking of getting one of these as a lot have come onto the market in leu of V2 i guess...great demo thank you! I see Waldorf have used your logo on the new M :p
Hey Eric, awesome yeah, I def recommend the OG Wave, super cool synth. I should have done some demos years ago, but better now than never :) As for Waldorf, yeah they're on point, I love what they're doing! Pretty sure they want me to buy one so they used my initial and similar logo to get my attention hehe. That's probably gonna happen :)
@@MarshalArnold ha! yeah, ive ordered mine :p might have just enough left over for the Wave :]
@@boomtherehewas oh awesome! I'm holding out for now, in case the rumored OBXa reissue hits, but if not it'll be either the new M or A wave 2, but leaning towards the M.
