About IBS Treatment Center
===========================
Dr. Stephen Wangen, co-founder and Medical Director of the IBS Treatment Center, and his staff have successfully helped over 10,000 people resolve irritable bowel syndrome and chronic digestive problems since 2005.
Some patients have had IBS symptoms so severe that they spent a considerable amount of time in the hospital. Others are suffering alone at home and are no less frustrated with the impact that it is having on their lives. The thread that tied them all together was that they had never seen an IBS expert (much different than a gastroenterologist), a doctor whose only mission is to help people solve IBS.
Patients work with us from around the country and the world via our telemedicine services. Get back your life! Work with us via telemedicine. Visit the IBS Specialists at ibstreatmentce...

That you! Very well explained. You gave better information than I have ever had on this subject!!
Awesome, thank you!
My GI doctor said "there's nothing wrong you, you just have IBS". I'd lost 20# in two weeks. A few hours later....my service dog alerted me. I called the GI back and told them. They said "come back in the morning". Went back in the morning had a HIDA scan..Turns out, my gallbladder had stopped functioning...0% function...a few hours later, the surgeon told me "your service dog saved your life you were hours from going septic". My GI doctor never apologized for not believing me. Patients know their bodies better than an white coat.
Well done! And give your dog a pet for me too!
Dogs are the best
May I know what happen why your gallbladder stopped functioning? Do you have gallstones?
I have gallstones, just last week first time I experienced gut wrenching stomach ache, I thought I had hyper acidity. Now this week I had low bowel movement. It's frustrating!
Dog is a great doctor.

Doctor please reply me if possible 😭... On the year 2023 in November i started getting symtoms like stomach burning and some discomfort ..day after day the symptoms were getting worst there was a kind of sensation that i have to poo but nothing came out only mucus ... But i didn't had any symtoms of constipation or lose motion only there was a sensation mostly at night that i have to poo but nothing used to happen also i was finding difficult to pass the gas.i have went to the doctor and also taken ibs medicine but nothing is working for me also done CT scan and stool taste blood, test everything was normal.... Then slowly all the symptoms were gone again from few days i am facing the same problem now with new symtoms little pain on stomach and narrow stool it feels like my stomach is not getting empty.. Therefore i decided to go for Colonosopy... Can you please tell me what's going on with me 😭😭 i am afraid of getting cancer
I had the same in November and had same symptoms had a colonscopy and they found 3 polyps and removed them but I'm still having same symptoms but keep getting compacted with stool and bleeding which they want to palm off as ibs .I hope everything goes well with you and you get to the bottom of your symptoms.
ur symptoms does not sound like cancer basically the thing is if u find blood in ur stool then it might be due to some kind of ibds but if u don find any blood in ur stool then it may as well be ibs but some people with ibs c tend to force poop down which might scar the delicate skin down there which might cause bleeding but other than that u might want to get it checked with a gi i hope u gws:)

I thought there was a distinction because ibs is most caused stress and anxiety, am i right?
That's the big misunderstanding about IBS. It is not mostly caused by stress and anxiety. It's about a whole lot of other things. Stress only makes it worse. Watch my video on that topic, ua-cam.com/video/ycTg2gdOvL4/v-deo.html

A colonoscopy showed I have a redundant colon which makes me suseptible to IBS. I have had no polyps at all. I still am vigilant of my colon.
That could certainly cause constipation. But it isn't always the cause, even if you have a redundant colon.
I understand that. My GI explained this to me but the final report said I had a tortous and redundant colon that made prone to have IBS. I have had constipation off and on all my life. Thanks you for this, Doc. I was looking for content about IBD/IBS vs Colon Cancer. This is very clear and well presented. I am enlightened. I just wish I can have a colonoscopy soon.

I’ll never check my Colin ever I went in to set an appointment and they said I can rip and tear
I began to have a burning sensation, pain in the left upper abdomen. Small spots of blood in my stool on occasion. Went to the ER with severe pain and they did a CT scan with contrast. They said I had some inflammation but said nothing more of what it could be. Just loaded me up on reflux and acid medicine..(I’ve not had any reflux symptoms) Also an ulcer medication.
It’s been 5 months since then and I’m still having the same symptoms. Insurance won’t pay for a colonoscopy due to the fact I had a ct with contrast…I’m miserable. At this point I don’t know if I have cancer, gastritis, a hidden ulcer or IBS or even Celiac’s.
2 weeks ago I went back to my doctor with pain and they took a xray in his office and said I had bloating and constipation. It’s hard for me to pass gas and empty completely. Again, it’s oh, just gas and take a laxative. At this point I don’t know what to do.. I can feel the inflammation daily. It’s starting to affect my daily life and I’m afraid I may have cancer. I have a 9 yr old and I’m scared.
Would a ct with contrast show cancer?
I don’t know what to do.
Although a colonoscopy would be ideal, it's unlikely that it's cancer. It's probably IBS. We'd love to help you with that.
Your symptoms sounds like mine. Burning pain all over my stomach and bowel area. Pain under ribcage. Had ultrasound done, my pain become more severe so they did CT SCAN, the scan came back clear. My doctor decided to do colonoscopy because my iron levels were very very low and he was to rule out colon cancer. Everything came back clear and he suspects I am dealing with IBS.

I went off of gluten 6 years ago due to noticing joint pains increasing when I ate more wheat products, stopped drinking cows milk due to digestion issues for a decade. I have developed problems a couple years ago with my digestion after going on a Keto diet about 7 weeks. Lost weight on the diet but my digestion slowed down too much. It continued after I went off the diet. Started becoming intolerant to certain foods like cauliflower, asparagus, ripe bananas, cooked peppers in soups, etc. Symptoms got worse & finally got a colonoscopy and biopsy positive for cancer. The digestion issues got much worse with constipation and diarrhea alternating. Would be tied down at home for a week or more sometimes. Someone suggested a few days ago that it could be due to lack of digestive enzymes. Started taking them 3 days ago along with drinking lemonade during meals and have had no problems since then. I believe now that my digestive enzymes were too low to tolerate a keto diet well, especially with the level of protein and fats and not getting natural enzymes from fruits.
What is your symptoms brother
@@rathangowda8971 the first symptom was inflammation in my hip where it felt like a sharp needle was poking into the joint. And I had sciatica when I was working as a greeter on my feet for hours, the more wheat I consumed the worse it got. It eventually felt like fire was blowing down my leg.

Thank you. Yes, doctors sometimes want to go for the cheapest method. I was told for 3 years that the bloating of my stomach was due to my hormones, my ovarian cyst...the doctor did a stool test , and they even wanted to prescribe me medicine for gastritis. I told them I didn't have gastritis. One day I had already walked out of the doctor , sat at the lobby, and thought, " The doctor didn't care about me , she told me I didn't need anything but I don't feel right " I talked to the nurse told her I needed to talk to the doctor again because she hadn't given me anything and I had been feeling helpless" I went in to talk to thr doctor again she then suggested she can sent me to have a colonoscopy or a CT scan. I schedule an appointment with a gastroenterologists ( no need for referral) I had a colinoscopy done and they removed a precancerus adenoma ( polyp ) . I am glad I was persistent.

It sounds like the antibiotics ruined the balance of good bacteria in your gut. The sharp left lower abdominal pain sounds like diverticulitis or diverticulosis. You should try taking probiotics and prebiotics and see if it helps. I don't know if you should if you're pregnant.

Get tested for SIBO. Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. The other thing is consider taking a PROBIOTIC. ASK your primary care doctor about that.
I live in Alberta (Canada) and for the last few years, you CAN'T have a colonoscopy unless you are accepted as a patient by a GI. I've been having lots of GI symptoms over the last couple of years, but my FIT test is negative, and a full stool panel has not revealed anything nefarious (blood work is also fine, not celiac either) - so I was denied for a colonoscopy! Anything and everything will trigger an urgent trip to the bathroom...
I am currently on the last few days of a Zaxine prescription. I don't know if it's going to help. I'm not sure what to do. UA-cam keeps showing me videos about colon cancer everyday.
You sound like our ideal patient. We'd love to help you. And we've worked with many people in Canada.
I appreciate this offer but my health insurance will never agree to cover for your services (it took 4 months for them to approve Zaxine). What I need first is access to a colonoscopy to completely rule out CC, then I can consider IBS treatment options. @@IBSTreatmentCenter

I have IBS and do stool blood screaning twice a year. At 68 I refuse to have a colonoscopy because I have seen the untold downside. Removing polips can cause sepsus and death. Removing polips is not cancer prevention.
It is screaning and when a polip is cancer it is not over!! It spreads and kills. Family history and diet are screaning and prevention tools.

Why there is anemia. After food infection, and vomitting and dirreah .
I think for many patients it's because they aren't absorbing their nutrients well. The IBS is causing them to have poor digestion, and subsequently poor absorption of nutrients.
In our country where I am paying medical aid / insurance, I can never understand why we need to beg a doctor to refer for such procedures. I am paying. Why deny me when I request it and I concerning symptoms.

How often should you get a colonoscopy?
Depends on what your doctor says, but typical is once every 10 years if no risk factors.
Surely one of the main differences is that the intensity of symptoms fluctuate over time with IBS, whereas with colon cancer the symptoms will only deteriorate over time. Is that not the case?
No. That's not the case. IBS pain can be very severe and very constant. Colon cancer pain can be mild and fluctuate. There are no consistencies. We only wish it was that simple.
@@IBSTreatmentCenter Sorry for taking so long to reply but I just wanted to say thank you for your response.
Just so you know, at the time of my original post I was having recurrent episodes of mild pain which moved about my abdomen as well as accompanying wind and belching. I had been to my doctor several times about this and initially it had been diagnosed as IBS although nothing seemed to get rid of it. However, about two weeks after I posted, my doctor referred me for an endoscopy, which led to a CT scan - it turned out that I had neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer that had spread to my liver.
Can I just hammer home how important your advice was to never just assume you have IBS. There are so many information sources out there on TV and the internet that are potentially leading people to self-diagnose IBS and subsequently waste valuable time obsessing about their diet and trying to identify their trigger foods when they really need to be looking at other possible causes and seeking the immediate advice of a medical professional instead.
Does a CT scan help to pick up Colon Cancer? I have had US and CT for my abdomen and doctor says its all clear. Just curious if i should push for a colonoscopy?
No! A CT scan cannot detect colon cancer. If you’re young, tell them you have a family history of colon cancer. They will never know if you’re lying or not. Why am I suggesting this? Go to UA-cam Channel “The Patient Story” and watch this video “I Ignored the Signs - Jason | Stage 4
Colorectal Cancer | The Patient Story” and you’ll see why I am suggesting this. Jason suggests it as well. Take charge of your health, don’t let doctors gaslight you or tell you what you can and cannot do.
Studies vary on this. If you've had the right kind of CT, called a CT colonography, then it's fairly good, but not quite as good as a colonoscopy.
Thanks for the response. What is a CT good for if not to aid in the detection of cancers of the abdomen?

Lately (abt a month), whenever diarrhoea is not there, having small sized normal colour stools but accompanied with water which is dark coloured, (brown to black) opaque (at times semi transparent).
Any chances of internal haemorrhage? Do I need to repeat the scan once more ? Unable to digest anything properly. Gall bladder removed long time back. Am 77.

All other blood test were normal and H. pylori was negative. I had a CT scan with contrast on the abdomen and an ultrasound on the gallbladder. The only thing that showed was mild fatty liver. I do have kidney stones.
My mother and grandmother both died of stomach cancer. My primary doctor doesn’t think I should be getting the endoscopy. I go in three days for a colonoscopy/endoscopy.
That certainly sounds like the smart thing to do. If they don't find anything and can't help you, we'd be happy to work with you.

Can treat, ment be offered to people in Europe? How would test samples be sent across the Atlantic without spoiling? Do you work with anyone in Germany?
We have many patients in Europe, including Germany. It isn't a problem. Every day thousands of things are shipped overnight across the Atlantic. Reach out to Tracy at Tracy@IBSTreatmentCenter.com for more information. You can also reach her via What'sApp at 206-791-2660.
Why isn’t the small bowel investigated more often before patients are diagnosed as having IBS?
Great question. The small bowel is a huge part of IBS, and we do investigate it. But most doctors don't. It's more difficult to assess.
Which test do for small bowel issues
I have a single lose movement around 3’Oclock most days, no other symptoms to date, but I’m trying to identify what’s causing it?
Many might not call that IBS, but I love that you are looking to improve your digestion. It could be a lot of different things. We'd love to help you figure out what it is.
Doctors keep telling me I've got IBS. I am not saying I've got cancer but my blood test showed ridiculously high levels of eosinophils. I am suffering for weeks now with diarrhea, weight loss and pain. NHS is so disappointing lately. They wait until you are on the verge of death to give you any treatment or diagnosis.
Eosinophils indicate that your immune system is reacting against something. That could be a food, parasites, or other things. There is a solution. We'd love to help you find it, and we work with patients all over the world.
I bet you do it involves money for you
Can ibs cause thin stools as well?
Yes. Absolutely. We've seen lots of that.
@@IBSTreatmentCenter you don't know how much I appreciate your answer! I have really really bad health anxiety and haven't had a normal stool in a year and now pencil thin I just feel the anxiety in my stomach. Does severe anxiety also cause bad IBS symptoms?
@@IBSTreatmentCenter all my labs are good also the fit test twice was negative
@@lissetteg9635 Yes, but mostly we see that IBS is causing anxiety more than the other way around. Most people with anxiety don't have IBS. Therefore there is almost always something else going on that is making your digestive tract susceptible to anxiety.
@@lissetteg9635 That's good, but not surprising. That's true for everyone with IBS. You need an IBS Specialist to help figure it out. Our labs will not be negative.
I was wondering when I went for a surface level colon cancer check, Im having abdominal pains, constipation and stuff. He listened to my abdomen with that little listening device around his neck.
Just out of curiosity, what was he listening for that helped him potential rule out colon/bowel cancer? It just seemed like an odd thing to use for it
I think that you are saying that the doctor listened to your abdomen with a stethoscope. That does not rule out colon cancer, or anything else for that matter.
Thank you! It does make me wonder what information they were trying to gain from this.@@IBSTreatmentCenter
You would need a stool test/colonoscopy, he did not do anything to actually test you.
Thanks Lily! I have actually done a stool test, just waiting for results and im going for an ultrasound soon!@@lillym5908
They listen to your tummy with a stethoscope to check that there are sounds of the digestive system working. Apparently there should always be some sounds. I was really unwell and had no sound whatsoever. It was diagnosed as diverticulitis. Hope that helps.
I heard that cologuard stool tests check for dna for polyps and blood.
www.gastroconsa.com/the-truth-about-cologuard-tests/
Does a positive fit test always mean cancer
No. It just means blood was found. There are many possible causes: ulcers, bulges, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids (piles), swallowed blood from bleeding gums or nosebleeds, or it could be due to early bowel cancer.
my doctor gave me a DRE when i had some bleeding and said I am fine
Interesting. You can't rule out very much with a DRE. I recommend seeing another doctor.
Thank you Doctor Stephen.
I'm glad that you found it helpful.
What about ibs and tenesmus
Yes. We see that a lot and can help with that.
I had terrible stomach pain (also tender, felt like my guts were inflamed) and diarrhea right after I ate, with tiny specs of blood in stool (almost looked like red pepper skin) for 3 days straight. Then that cleared up and I was constipated for 3 days. Did my FIT test with my first bowel movement after that and tested positive for occult blood. I’m very worried. Could this blood have been from some type of inflammation?
It could be from lots of things. You should see a gastroenterologist to have it checked out.
i fasted for 24 hours and my symptoms pretty much disappeared, for a while anyway. would that be an indicator of IBS or could that happen with cancer also?
I usually take that as a good sign, but we can't rule anything out just because of it. It's also a good sign because it means that there is a clear cause related to eating, and we should be able to figure that out for patients. We'd love to work with you!
Thanks super helpful
You are welcome. Glad it helped.
Do you speak about MCL Lymphoma?
Does ct colonography detect colon cancer
You need a colonoscopy.
Thank you Doctor..

My partner is 31 . He literally sits in toilet for 45 minutes or more. He pushes so hard. But its liquid stool. And its everyday since years. He sweats in night, and regular reports are normal. Its bowl moment is not at all normal. Also he get cough just 10-15 minutes after every meal .
Don’t know where to visit, Because in every report is normal with vitamin D and B12 deficiency. We have taken supplements for it.
His mother has breast cancer. I am not sure what exactly should I do. I don’t want to make anyone panic in family without any cause.
He recently had stomach pain in lower right side. He has normal weight with big belly.
What reports should i go for ,which specialist. If its IBS,cancer or anything I just need to know.

But how we will know that problem is in liver or stomach or intestine or pancreas or gallbladder. Because we have no idea.
These are exactly the kind of patients that we love to see. If he's already seen lots of docs, had a colonoscopy, and not much has been found, then it doesn't sound like colon cancer. Now he needs to see someone who is an expert in IBS, which is why I founded this specialty. We're here to help.
Hi, I had a colon recession years ago. The doctor advised I do a colonoscopy every three years. May I ask why? I didn't have polyps or anything, it had just loop around itself. How am I at risk of certain diseases like cancer? I have had IBS, IBD flare-ups post surgery, but am I at risk?
There are many reasons you might need a colonoscopy, not just cancer. You need to ask your colonoscopy doctor that question. But you definitely need to see us about your IBS and IBD.
It could be the fact that your colon can really twisted. I have this also
@@marthawiggins9105 did you colon get twisted again? If so how?
I have what is called tortuous colon. It can twist around and twist around itself. My gasrto Dr straightened it out some during one of my colonoscopy.
@@marthawiggins9105 that's scary, I thought I was no longer at risk of it ever retwisting because it was shortened. Thank you for the insight.
What if, like me, I’ve had IBS for decades, had a normal colonoscopy 4 years ago, a clear pill camera endoscopy last year and have had a recent negative FIT stool test (in fact 2 clear FIT tests within the last six months) but I’ve have been suffering a lot recently with my ibs symptoms. Should I be rest assured it’s IBS and nothing more because surely I can’t keep having colonoscopies? My gastro doesn’t really want to do another due to the risks (I’m on the U.K. so under the NHS).
What risks? Are you on blood thinners? If your health issues have changed, why wouldn't you have a colonoscopy or push for one? You're not even paying for it ( if I understand your NHS)? If I had listened to my Gastro, I would be much worse. Had 2 colonoscopies 15 months apart. The second one I had an extremely large polyp with cancer cells. I've lost 32 lbs, hurts to eat, severe constipation and other symptoms. My doctor said, " There's no way you could have anything but a normal colonoscopy since your last one. Nothing can grow in that short of time. He was WRONG!! Please have the colonoscopy to make sure. Praying all is well. . . 💕💐

Ask for a CAT scan.
@@juliawigger9796 I had one
@@godseeseverything_1 Just to say that I went to a different gastroenterologist and he said another colonoscopy would be perfectly ok. I had that on 15th July, it was all clear thank goodness. I hope you are doing well.
Can a ct scan show colon cancer??
It's not definitive, but it's helpful for some things.
What about calprotectin. Do all cancers not cause inflammation?
Calprotectin is not specific to any one condition, nor does it capture all types of inflammation. It is not a measurement of colon cancer.
@@IBSTreatmentCenterhi dr
End of July I went through a couple of traumatic events all at once at once causing severe stress and anxiety and IBS symptoms began
Pain just left of belly button now and then
Pain on the sola plexus area mild
Light coloured stools was runny ant the start now solid possibly constipated with a strange smell
Lower back pain that comes and goes worse when sitting down like driving slouching
Fluttering under left lower rib and severe pain when needed to open bowel once that passed as soon as I done it
Stool on occasion is pencil thin
On the NHS I’ve had blood work done twice all ok no firther actions
IBD and colitis both negative
A stool test for blood negative
And urine tests also been checked for HIV and TB both negative. My doctors say it’s IBS from severe anxiety stress
I went private to see a gastroenterologist he asked questions and examined by abdomen to which it was tender bottom left he suggests it’s a form of irritable bowel mainly colonic spasms and not concerned about cancer

IBS is on and off - Cancer once symptoms starts they don’t go off anymore ..
If it were only that simple. Lots of people with IBS have it constantly.
@@IBSTreatmentCenter yes of course , I meant for those who have them on and off for years that isn’t cancer because sometimes it can be worrying a lot especially during the “on” times ..
@@LS-cn1xp That's an assumption that is very risky to make. You could also have both.
Today I had so much mucus in stool, dull abdomen cramping, gas, when wiped noticed red discharge. I’m super scared!
I’m only 23! What’s going on with me?!?
🥲
I’m having weight loss also since February. But this stool thing is a first time thing and today.
Lost maternal grandpa too, stage 4 stomach cancer in 2021… so I’m scared.
And well this isn’t related to gi. But I get recurring underarm cysts. And idk if that’s hydrodentis Supparativa.
But the reason I’m mentioning this is because, online it read that so call: people with this recurring skin condition can be at risk of IBD.
So like, I don’t know if that’s what’s happening or not?
Like I’m super scared as I never had this happen to me before! First time ever today noticed weird red discharge and lots of mucus after BM
It's impossible to know what is going on until you get checked out by a doctor and have a colonoscopy. I highly recommend doing that.
