It took me a month to listen to all six novels of this series, 12 videos about 6 hours each. I am surprised how sadden I feel now that my time with Ballista is over. I was not surprised to read a critic compare Harry Sidebottom to Lee Child, it had already occurred to me that Ballista is a sword and sandals version of Reacher.
I’ve read this book before and Sidebottom is a great author. I don’t particularly like reading about this period of the Empire, the so-called “Third Century Collapse,” in which the Empire almost fail. The recovery made possible by Marcus Claudius (Gothicus) and Aurelian (the Savior of the World) gave the Empire another two centuries. The Empire, however, never recovers and it is only a period of about 75 years of stabilization before decline begins anew.
I wish the History Channel adopted the live-action Series this would have been so fun this is so fun like a high production live action series we have folk muisc dramatic music they have soundtracks what you would think that the people back in that time would listen to
Those who serve Rome are proud for both the professors work, and for the persons worked to put it here. The narrator is of excellence. I found my self on my effort to follow as much as I can the value of a great man...Ballista.
I really enjoyed the story, but found jarring was Romans using Triremes in 225 AD, characters with biblical names playing the same roles Bathsheba lol etc
any way I can get this series without buffering on my TV; this computer has no problem; also does it matter if i use bong ruffing or prof Sidebottom or Mury or trudie?
@@kanciarz5377 he's referring to Netflix German mini series Barbarians. It's definitely not based on this story, though the main character is also a Germanic hostage that rises to Equestrian rank.
@@kanciarz5377 It's not based on Ballista it's based off of the history and characters + creative fictions of the story of the battle of Teutoberg forest. Varus, give me back my legions etc etc.
Ballista 2024!!
Well GREAT! Now I have to add another writer to my favorites list. This is truly excellent.
Listening to the history of rome after listening to this series was great. I didn't know ballista was a real person. Awesome

The Empire lasted until 1453.
