I'm (unfortunately) fortunate to have a siren about 50 yards from my house. It literally sounds like the siren is sitting in my living room when it goes off.
Yep, lived in a place for a bit with a siren next door because rent was cheap. If I had Wednesdays off from work the 1st week of the month, I found a reason to be elsewhere at noon!
@GreybeardT.Pirate Did you have to think to ask about that or look for one when you were looking at apartments? As someone from New England and CA, I would hope that landlords would be good about disclosing such things up front, especially if it wasn't familiar to a person who would have been new to the area.
Here in southwestern Wisconsin that's the siren for firefighters and police for car accident or a fire somewhere close by. Are tornado sirens are really long and loud but still have people all over the place going outside to see if they see it anywhere
Our city used to have a 6pm siren. They used the same sirens as the weather siren. You can always see a few people check their watches when these go off, out of habit.
One of my first memories from going to family reunions in South Dakota was sitting on a lawn chair watching fireworks go off over Lake Madison with a tornado passing off to the south and a thunderstorm going on behind it. No one got up to leave, so I just enjoyed the beautiful view. Honestly, I would love to be chasing them!
Nice ‘Cuda Brian! You too Dave! My best friend..whose name was also Sandy..had a purple ‘69 ‘Cuda. I had a ‘69 440 4 speed Roadrunner. The guys where we both worked were so jealous..lol
@@overnightdelivery The Midwest is such nice people they decided to share twisters with us. Lol. I've asked them to kindly keep the twisters and we would keep the hurricanes.
@@rabidpepe Florida area? I'm in Central Minnesota and rarely get tornados to be concerned about but did have one very close last fall. But yeah places like Oklahoma it must be crazy. I'm content watching the action instead of being in it. 😄
Grew up in southern Kansas way back in the 70’s. In the summer That sound meant to get out of the pool and run up to the top of the bath house! ⛈️⛈️🥴🥴😂😂.
Not gonna lie. Born and raised to fear that Demonic sound and as luck would have it I was apart of a tornado years later in Windsor Colorado and all of us were outside chilling with the tornado ripping through town. Reminds me of the little boy who cried wolf story all of my life growing up. Guess the wolf done caught up with me eventually!
Even though I am a big fan of sirens, just remember, they are for outdoor warning only. You have to have multiple ways of getting alerts, such as weather radios, Internet, wireless alerts or TV and radio.
You'll definitely hear them inside when you have one on the roof of the firehouse, a five minute walk from your house. Not speaking from experience or anything 😂
They also mean, "come outside, meet your neighbors in the street, and look around".
And for us siren Enthusiasts to go siren hunting :D
Where is little man's camera? Gotta make a video...
I can relate! I live on the border of western PA and Ohio.

Same lol
I had one of those that they tested every Saturday morning and they would leave it going for ten, fifteen minutes. I moved.

@@HappyQuailsLC Nope, it didn't occur to me to ask why rent was cheap and he didn't tell me. Lesson learned.

I thought the sirens were letting us know it’s time to go out on the porch and watch it🤷🏻♀️
lol Brandon you nailed it. You know us midwesterner’s well lol 😂.

@@sandyaw3057 I love the MOPARS! I have since I was a kid. Wish I could still afford to work on some others that I need to get on the road.
Tornado sirens go off when I'm not chasing I'm standing on my roof.
I'm a Midwesterner and I confirm this
For me it means that I need to sound off my mini sirens.
Heck no, I’m hiding under the covers. Even when it’s the monthly test siren. 😂 That sound gives me nightmares.
Heck, I went fishing during a severe thunderstorm that evolved into a tornado warning because I knew that catfish would be biting like crazy. 😂
Somehow that doesn’t surprise me! 😂
@sandyaw3057 🙄🤣
Something is missing tho... he's not looking up. 😂
For real, when the NOAA radio pops off.
We dont even get sirens where I live. We just have to listen to the wind.
Not the most reliable system 😄
@overnightdelivery Hurricanes knock down the sirens.
@@rabidpepe I see 😉

I go straight to the garage and wait 😅
Yes, I do do that but mainly because the tornado shelter at my apartments is down the stairs and across the street from my apartment house place
Don't hear sirens where I'm at . Pay attention to the windchimes & sky

Totally not me playing howling sounds of hell aka alternate wail out of my mini Federal Signal Modulator
I’m a transplant from California, not me brother. When that siren sounds, it’s like the Morlaks are coming out. F that.
