  • I finally got around to adding the WiFi capability to my new Daikin mini split in my detached garage. This video shows how to connect the brp072a43 adapter cable and WiFi adapter module to the wall unit model ftxs18lvju. Luckily, this model is plug and play, and does not require installation of an extra printed circuit board (which comes with the WiFi kit). The hardest part was actually syncing up the module to my home WiFi network (and that part wasn’t even that hard at all). The only downside to doing this is the daikin comfort control app does NOT have access to ALL of the awesome settings available on the daikin remote control unit. The app only provides very basic features. But, it does allow me to turn my unit on or off and I can also change the thermostat from in my house or anywhere I have internet connectivity from my iPhone. Overall, it works pretty well, and suits my needs. Well worth the extra cake for the added functionality it does provide.

    Thank you!!! Your video was more informative and a thousand times better than the instructions that come with the wi-fi unit. You made my job a breeze.

    Thanks for the vid, but I cant believe you installed this with power to the unit..not good for any PCB. I waited 3 months for my stupid S21..so I'm playing it safe ;)

    where does the unit reside after connection? It looks like is hanging or needs to be adhered to the wall or the unit?

      The WiFi unit needs to be affixed somewhere OUTSIDE of the main unit. Stick it to the side of the main unit or to the wall. It has buttons on it that you will need easy access to periodically. I found that my WiFi signal from my router was weak-ish, so I used the full length of wire to get the WiFi unit as close as possible to my WiFi router. Believe it or not, the extra 4 foot of distance was just enough for mine to get a strong signal. Anyway, good luck with your install.

    What was the total contractor install cost to install one of these?

      There was no cost to install the WiFi adapter. I did it myself.

    Question sir, is Wifi modem only for specific DAIKIN model or is it applicable to all DAIKIN split ?

    • @TheBartmobile
      @TheBartmobile  11 місяців тому +1

      I’m pretty sure that add-on WiFi module only works with certain models. From what I understand, the newer daikin splits come with WiFi integration from the factory now.

    Does the app work when your home internet is out, but your phone is connected to the same network? Like the internet is out but I'm in another room and want to control the unit(s)? Any chance you have tried this out or can give it a shot?

    • @TheBartmobile
      @TheBartmobile  Рік тому

      I think so. When the module is on your home wifi and your phone is on the same network, they should be able to communicate. I can’t test it because I no longer live at the house where this video was made. Good luck.

    My FTXS09 was same process step by step. Only downside for me is that you need the adapter for each separate unit. I am 2/4 now.

      Thanks for the comment. Hey, do you find that yours are sometimes unreachable seemingly for no good reason? Mine works properly 99% of the time, but every once in awhile, it becomes inaccessible from within the app. Sometimes, that problem resolves itself. Sometimes, I’ve had to reset the adapter out at the unit so I can control things from the app again. Just wondering if yours works great 100% of the time.

      I never had any issues with the adapters and wifi strength, even ~100ft apart and multiple floors.
      What happens sometimes is my devices dont use wifi, so I am on a different network than the daikins. When that happens it just logs me into the offline account.
      But when im near them in person I just stick to the remote and use the app to heat/cool while I am on the way home. Mixing the app with remote makes the unit confused or something and you need to turn it off and on.

    Definitely want to power off the unit before installing the adapter. One, there’s high voltage in there; two, plugging the adapter into an energized circuit isn’t best practice.

      Hi Hunza. You will need a Haier adapter (if they have them). The WiFi controls aren't interchangable between different brands. Hope this helps!

    The hell with this it’s way more complicated than it needs to be. They should come with this feature already installed or a simple USB adapter somewhere o the front cover. Taking the unit apart seems like a good way to loose some screws.

    • @TheBartmobile
      @TheBartmobile  3 роки тому +1

      I agree. It is a major pain. Maybe Daikin will re-engineer the next generation of these units with embedded WiFi capabilities. I think the Mr.Cool units do come with embedded WiFi by default, but what kind of warranty do you get with a Mr.Cool unit you bought off Amazon? I bought my unit from a local HVAC parts supplier in Baltimore, so if I have any problems or need parts, I can physically go there and get help.

    Externally mounted wifi, yikes. There will be room to shove the adapter inside the cover somewhere

    • @TheBartmobile
      @TheBartmobile  3 роки тому +3

      There is room inside to stuff the cord and unit internal, but this air handler is just at the very far range of my WiFi signal. I needed every bit of the cord to stretch the WiFi receiver back as close as possible to the house (this is a detached garage). Also, I’ve experienced outages that required access to the little buttons on the WiFi receiver, so stowing it inside the air handler itself would’ve created an access issue for me. Anyway, thanks for the comment.
