In another channel, several holes made just above the water level of the bottom container was suggested in order for the water not to overfill until it reaches the soil and drown the plants roots when it rains heavily outside.
From low concentration to high concentration is preety messed up . Try setting up a gallon of water above the level of the plant and connect cotton thread on both the ends . Due to capillary action it will easily pull water . You can even connect multiple plants ! Cheers !
Thank you for the tip. However, I would expect some kind of proof that it actually works (and I believe it does), e.g., a picture taken several weeks later when the plant had not been watered at all. In other words, can I count on this working if I leave on a two or three week-long holiday and have no-one to water my plant(s)? So I guess my question is -- how long will this be good for if the bottom part of the bottle is complete full of water -- days or weeks?
If you want longer vacations... You need a bigger water container. Put in a loooong wick. Instead of putting the "inverted top part" of the soda bottle to it's bottom half.... Put that on the *5 gallon* water container that is usually put on top of the water coolers. And secure it with duct tape.
If you have a friend or relative working in a hospital setting, try get a used saline drip set. Easy to suspend at any height and flow control will be good.
WOW I LOVE IT!! Also like tip from another to put some rocks in bottom for stability. Could kick myself for throwing away all those plastic bottles. Dang.
A useful idea, bigger bottles for bigger plants, to avoid disintegration by sun and cold, would last longer inside homes or in shade houses and under trees.
@@everythingthatrhymeswithsa3116 maybey get a gallon of milk and when you finish it do the same process as this one im just coming up with ideas so dont take my word for it

As the soil becomes dry, it starts to draw water from the bottom of the containter using the rope material almost like a straw. Things usually like to move from more to less in nature for balance, heat dissipates to cold, light dissipates to dark, moisture moves to dry, etc.
It is really worth meaningfully. Once the thread get soaked in water it remain wet. The advantages are if we forget to water for a few days due to away from the place the plant don't die out. But a little bit spray of water is giving fresh nutrients to the plant.
I am new in planting so i am wondering how will the plant and soil absorb the water at the buttom i know there is a yarn but water would stay there. How will the water go up?
I like this. Without saying unnecessary words, you have it clear.

What string do you use? the thick ones i use keep decomposing in the soil so they dont last long.
Hi! Nice video! I have a question, of what material is the cord?
Any string will do but not the plastic kind.

the yarn will absorb the water and it will dampen the while yarn causing the water to go to the soil
