    My mother made these all the time because my Daddy loved them. We called them potatoes in white sauce. Sometimes added English peas. So good. Thanks for the memory.

    My maternal relatives were from Sanford, NC and were of Scottish origin -- - I don't ever remember having stewed potatoes. At 75 y/o I will have them now -- that looks really good.

    I too, keep coming back to see this recipe, that I thought I had documented in my OneNote. Just love this and so simple to make compared to a lot of others I have viewed on UA-cam. But those were called "Creamed Potatoes". I finally thought of what Phyllis call hers and here I am. Once again!

    My gramma came from Germany. She made these potatoes, she called them creamed potatoes. No matter what they are called they are simply delicious. Thanks for bringing back a good memory.

    I have never seen anyone stew potatoes like this before. it looks delicious. I'm gonna try this. I cook green beans from a can too, I put olive oil, butter salt and pepper in my green beans, let them cook half the liquid down. they are so delicious. also I fry can green pea's, 2 cans of pea's, drain the liquid from the pea's. put 1 stick of butter, one large onion, chopped, in frying pan, cook covered with lid till they turn somewhat brown. this is a very delicious way to cook pea's, it changes the whole taste of pea's. try them miss Phyllis u will love em😊

    When I make stewed potatoes....I first fry some turkey bacon or pork bacon and some onions together in a pot. I then add the chopped potatoes and some water and season to taste. Let it all cook together until the potatoes are fork tender and then add a flour or corn starch slurry to thicken to make the sauce. I highly encourage you to try it it is very tasty! The bacon and onions bring on a whole new flavor. My mom introduced it to me a long time ago and I have made it like that ever since! However, I am going to try your stewed potato recipe....looks very good!!!

    My husband's Mama called them Soupy Potatoes. Also Ms. Phyllis I cook my green beans with a little of oil, salt and (pepper), 1/2 tsp. White vinegar and 1/4 tsp sugar. I get a lot of compliments on my green beans. You can't taste the vinegar and they aren't sweet either. Thanks for the great video's.

    Hi nikki, I don't think this is creamed potatoes, it's similar but not the same.
    The difference is the flour and milk (white sauce). With creamed potatoes you only add milk, butter, salt and pepper - plus you mash or whip the potatoes. These potatoes remain in cubes or slices, you don't mash or whip them. Thanks for the comment.

    This is what my grandma called creamed potatoes. Sometimes she added fresh peas (if she had them in the garden, and sometimes she dug new potatoes for this) the last little bit of the potato cooking time, and before adding the milk.

      I know a lot of people think of 'Creamed Potatoes' as mashed potatoes, but this is just the way she differentiated between the two.

    You could also throw in some corn, chopped green onions, & some chunks of cooked chicken and you have a chicken corn chowder. I make my potato soup this way also only thin it out just a little more. This is a nice versatile recipe. Thanks, Phyllis!

    My Mawmaw made these as well. She called them "Stewed Taters". We ate these 2 or 3 times a week. I loved getting off the school bus and going in my Mawmaw's house to find stewed taters and cornbread.

    In the 1980s, when my son was 1 or 2, we'd go to a local IGA store, in the city where we lived. ( I still live here.) They had a great buffet, which the ladies cooked everything by scratch. They had, what "I" thought was SCALLOPED POTATOES, but they were real loose, & barely had any cheese in them; just a tad;just enought to melt into the sauce, but didn't overpower the dish at all. I LOVED them!* hahaha....While you have been cooking this, I think what they served was like your STEWED POTATOES. Do you ever add just a bit of light colored cheese, like a mild white cheddar or gruyere? so it will melt gradually into the sauce, but never overpowers the dish? Thanks for this! As soon as I can, I'm gonna cook this.

    I've done it with parsley but my favorite is boiling chopped onions with the potatoes. I love the flavor of potatoes and onions. Also do a soup or stew with them adding milk when there're done, not straining off the water tho.

    This is what Mama called cream potatoes... she fixed them just like that..she served it with meatloaf usually.. she also cooked cauliflower the same way .. I added shredded cheese in my sauce when I cooked cauliflower because it was the only way I could get my husband to eat it..

    How do you freeze your biscuits? Are or cooked? Container of bag

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  5 років тому +1

      I cook a big pan of biscuits (about 20-24) then freeze them in a large salad container. Take out only
      what we use. I always freeze cooked biscuit. It's much more economical when you cook them all
      at once. I reheat them for about 10 minutes in the coaster oven or even less time if I take them
      out of the freezer and let them thaw on the kitchen counter, then warming time is about 5 minutes.

    I would like to see how to cook collard greens

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  5 років тому

      Here's my video on cooking collard greens in the Instant Pot if you don't have a pressure cooker just put them in a big pot and cook for about 30 minutes or until tender.
      ua-cam.com/video/0jXsXq1ikNM/v-deo.html
      Season with what you like such as bacon grease, fatback, olive oil, smoked turkey wings or regular cooking oil. Add salt and you have really delicious collard greens. Collards are cooked the same way you would cook steamed cabbage. Collards cook faster than most other greens such as mustard greens or turnip greens. Good luck cooking your collards.
