This satire show has a rather serious "twin". On public German television there is a daily news show "heute" (=today) at 7pm starting the prime time hours. This "heute show" follows the concept pretty much. They make great fun of all things that are better not taken as seriously as they are sometimes coming along, be it politically, socially, religiously, you name it. Sometimes it helps people understand better what is going on because behind or with the help of all the comedy and satire they explain very good what is going on... I guess they do have their own yt channel, so there should be a lot for you to be discovered.
The real irony here is that Margaret Thatcher, hailed as a hero by many Brexiteers, was the main driving force behind the development of the “single market”. She appointed Lord Cockfield to the European Commission with the express intention that he would develop concrete proposals for the EU to move towards operating as a single market.
Margaret Thatcher was a Eurosceptic. It was because of her anti-EU speech at Bruges, Belgium, opposing ever closer European ties in 1988 that led to her fellow Conservatives turning against her and her losing her position as Prime Minister, two years later. Yes, Margaret Thatcher became a Brexiteer as was the late, great Enoch Powell. Suck it up, buttercup.
Ha yes, the "Heute Show" and "Extra 3" are my favorites, these programs also take aim at German politics and a wide variety of other topics and make great satire😅.
This show is my absolute favorite 👍🏽, and your reactions to it, I laughed out so loud several times, I had to tell my family what was happening 😂, thank you, that was great 👍🏽
I didn‘t read the subtitles, so there may have been a bad translation. In any case, he didn‘t throw the Poles under the bus - he was making fun of the Brits who complained about all the Poles in Britain because of freedom of movement. I happened to be in London at the time of the vote. The day after the results were announced, there were reports of Polish workers finding notes on their windshields (windscreens 😂) noting with glee that they would now have to leave. Now Britain has a major shortage of workers in a number of industries because the Continental Europeans have had to leave (in part - it‘s not quite that simple). The Brits understood Brexit so badly that people of other origins (e.g. Indian) also found themselves confronted with people joyfully telling them they would have to leave as well! I‘m sure you know this, but just for the record - Guinness is Irish!

The "Heute - Show" is aired weekly, and I am always looking forward on watching it. The name itself is a little joke, because the same broadcaster's daily news go by the name of "Heute". I mean the serious ones. (Heute = Today). Ask YT for "Heute - Show" and you will for sure get a lot of results, even the current ones.
@@Herzschreiber yes, you're right, "The Daily Show" If you've watch the original, Olli Welke copied from is very similar in many details including rolling papers in his hands pretending to be a news anchor, reading the news.
The British wanted it that way. Now they only have disadvantages because of it. Not only do they have difficulties with customs imports and exports, they also have difficulties with labour. Why do you think that is? They didn't care before that hundreds of thousands of lorry drivers came from the EU to do their jobs. And even industries like fisheries have been ripped off. There is a very good documentary by Arte about what the Brexit has done to some cities. It also shows what the British will now be denied. Namely, social subsidies from the EU. For example, children's facilities were run with EU money in order to offer poor families a little social participation. And now? Such projects are being completely cancelled. More unemployed, etc. Even as a tourist or an artist who wants to perform in England, you already have difficulties.

'Gernot Hassknecht' is a fictional , completely exaggerated "stereotypical German pub crawler" who knows "everything about everything". He always starts to rant in the most illogical ways about the current topic. Hassknecht, in this case a compound name of Hass = hate, and Knecht = servant. So he serves hate. Which is pretty much *all* he does. He's a regular feature of the heute Show.
Dietmar Wischmeyer is the only solid german comedian, he is like a more eloquent Louis CK (meaning storytelling/structuring) mixed with the anger of Hassknecht. I hope … really really hope there are english subtitles and that the humor translates. He is the harsh and also on the Heute Show.
I laughed with you, very funny your laughing ^^ JP, there are a lot more comedy shows in germany. Have you ever seen Kaya Yanar, Didi Hallervorden, Loriot, Otto, Volker Pispers, Michael Mittermaier? Heya and greetings from Germany! ^v^/ Yeah, the "Heute Show" is really one of the best political satire-shows we have, in my humble opinion. So very entertaining, also (or maybe especially) if you watch this along the "normal" news, because you will soon learn where exactly our own politicians/ higher-ups botched up as well, not only people from other countries. Because it doesn't matter what country or what current topic at hand, Welke and Co take on pretty much all that's currently featured in the news or has some other kind of significance, not only for Germany, but also the EU, UN or world in general. They always do an amazing job and this made me laugh so much every time I watch an episode. In Germany the humor can be a bit dark, hard to understand without proper translation and is often "blunt", but as you now had a chance to see for yourself, IS also very entertaining if you, as you said so yourself, don't take yourself too serious. It's a satire-show after all. XD As for your question about more content of the "ZDF Heute Show": They have their own channel here on YT as well. (Simply search for ZDF Heute Show) ;) Currently they are on summer-break, which usually lasts until September, sometimes more, sometimes less. But the rest of the year (more or less) they bring one episode a week. So yeah, lotta stuff. :3 Thank you for your reaction and have great day! ^^
The quality of thinking that led some to vote for brexit is the same quality of thinking which continues to lead them to vote the way they do politically...and what a disaster it's been time and again. It's not like it wasn't completely obvious what would happen, as many of the brights pointed out before the 2010 election. It's presented as a culture war, but it's not; it's an intelligence metric and we're frighteningly undereducated here.
I mean its literally the oldest trick in the book. How do you get the general public to vote against their best interest? Introduce them to a random "us vs. them" scheme and tell them somebody will come for their daughters - then present yourself as the only viable solution to those issues. Worked in Britian for the past decade. Worked anywhere for the past milennia.
So glad we left the EU. Their constant meddling in our affairs was disgusting. There are economic problems all over the world right now due to Covid and the Ukraine war, but leave it to a few simpleton remoaners to blame it on Brexit 🤣🤣🤣
@@c_n_b There was definitely evidence of some questionable behaviour from the EU Commission (the backstory of the energy labels for some products was one very poignant example). But it's absurdly illogical to say because there were occasional imperfections (which we actually fixed whilst in there, by-the-way), we should therefore pettily shoot ourselves in the foot. The economic problems faced by us-exacerbated by factors such as viruses and wars-are disproportional for us precisely because of the own goal. Using cliched and poorly evidenced ad hominem attack terms like "remoaners" is simply not convincing (and never was) as a position. Same on the other side. Inferior thinking was evidenced from the worst minds on both sides. The evidence is now clear: the NET consequence of leaving a strong union is we're quantifiably worse off-and by an amount comparable to that suggested by the bright minds before all this happened. The idea that an effective constitutional change was made based on a fluctuating simple majority vote was one of the most spectacular demonstrations of weak leadership many have ever seen (even since) that will truly go down in history. David Cameron will always be known as a moron.
If you like german political comedy and satire, you should definitely check out Volker Pispers history of usa and terrorism. But take care, it's straight in your face, dark, brutal and honest. ua-cam.com/video/uHbStsy11j0/v-deo.html
Lord Cockfield 😧!? Really?
Margaret Thatcher was a Eurosceptic. It was because of her anti-EU speech at Bruges, Belgium, opposing ever closer European ties in 1988 that led to her fellow Conservatives turning against her and her losing her position as Prime Minister, two years later. Yes, Margaret Thatcher became a Brexiteer as was the late, great Enoch Powell. Suck it up, buttercup.
Ha yes, the "Heute Show" and "Extra 3" are my favorites, these programs also take aim at German politics and a wide variety of other topics and make great satire😅.

6:27 Gernot Hassknecht is our version of Lewis Black. I belive they both originated in the same clone tube.
greetings from germany! your reactions are pretty fun! 🥰
This show is my absolute favorite 👍🏽, and your reactions to it, I laughed out so loud several times, I had to tell my family what was happening 😂, thank you, that was great 👍🏽
Gernot Hassknecht is funny af. You should watch more of him
I love the heute show! Watch it every Friday. I'm happy to see the reaction on your channel!
Great to see the amazing quality of German humour. I guess you've got to laugh at it, one way or the other.
I always thought if a giraffe could dance this is what it would look like...
Guinness is an Irish beer.....the RI is not Britain.....😅
Yes they got that one a bit wrong.
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, Tadcaster, England
Made up Bull crap by "REMOANERS".
This comment is riddled with BDS (Brexit Derangement Syndrome) 🤣🤣🤣
@@MattyEngland your comment meanwhile oozes ignorance
I think chips were invented by the French? I may be wrong😂
@@huntardhc2286 They're like moths to a flame aren't they. So smug after cutting off their noses to spite their face.
5:25 Threw the polish under the bus??? Man you do not understand what he meant...
can you imagine what they say about president Dump
Thank God it's friday. The weekend has started, I drink some beers and at 22:30 the heute-Show is on air. This is a perfect start for a good weekend. So you have to react to the heute-Show at friday evening at 22:30 to get the same feeling we, the fans, have. 😎
Guiness is Irish... still in the EU :P
Also for fish and chips they use fishes you can't find in the UK waters, they don't like their own fish, so they are importing it...
As a german I like your point of view about humor it´ssimular to mine if you can´t laugh about yourself you have to be a mad person
You must look all episodes from the „heute show“
They all hilarious 😂😂
That was fun! I hope they have bits about other subjects (Trump maybe?)
They have plenty about Trump. I just looked and there are at least 6 that are redily available. Just search for "Heute Show" and "Trump". Don't know if the subtitles will always be that good, though.
Gernots Hasskrechts schauspielerische Leistung hat mich zu Tränen gerührt.
Guinness is Irish, Ireland is not in the UK.
You're wrong: North-Ireland is still proud to belong to the UK ...
@@pugdthfn Ireland, not Northern Ireland! Dublin, Ireland. You be as proud as you want, doesn't bother me.
I really feel sorry for the 50% smart british.
me too
Well I thought it was funny..I know quite a few Germans and we all have a laugh (at each others expense), Us Brits probably have the most in common with Germany and the Netherlands ; shared ethnicity etc than we do with southern Europe..as a friend of mine put it. Northern Europe = beer drinkers , Southern Europe = wine drinkers
well your royal family is german too

Theresa May dancing is really iconic, actually.
reminds me of Elaine‘s iconic dancing in Seinfeld…
And Liz Truss talking about pork pies. You can't beat our pork pies though😂
*Demonic 🤣
There are few clips of "heute Show" on UA-cam today. They put the majority of clips out and only show them on the public tv station's own media library, the "ZDF mediathek". So there you will find more stuff of "heute Show".
Well, the German "Heute Show" is a copy and produced under license from the American Today Show of the famous Jon Stewart.
@@sindbad8411 What you are talking about goes by the name of "The Daily Show" and yes, the concept is similar but a copy is something different.
@DJone4one: EU money - where do you think that came from?? The UK contributed the second largest amount to the EU and post Brexit we foolishly continue to make contributions supposedly for outstanding debts!!
Your videos are really addicting, Karola Hamburg,Germany
love your reaction!!! and there are more videos from the Heute-Show about brexit to watch
"Hey hey, you can't hate on the Guinness and fish & chips."
Guinness is Irish. 😆
The funniest thing for me as a german is that while watching this with my family I didn't even realize how harsh it could seem to other people. Its just typical german humor, noone would say that if they really meant it xD
Hi Joel , I enjoyed this video (pierre)
The heute show should have a channel of their own.
There is also the 'Anstalt'. A bit longer and more indepth I'd say, but nonetheless, worth it.
Did you watch the America first ... Second videos? They were a reaction to trump's inauguration speech and came from popular comedy shows all over Europe and around the world
ua-cam.com/video/WcH9eWBs9fw/v-deo.htmlsi=_c224WhRbvvFN3P_
This is the Germany second video, but there are a lot of others, for example Denmark, Netherlands and Suisse
The host you are watching, Oliver Welke once said "If you turn off the sound it should look like the news. If you turn the sound back on and still think its the news you need help".
So if someone takes this for real, one got a total different problem :)
Guinness is made in the EU lol
The EU has nothing to do with Guinness, it started in 1759 a little before the EU ever existed...
He didn't say it started in the eu. Damn, you can't even comprehend what he's talking about. Maybe read a book or two?
@@pascalf9602 Name two that are relevant?
@@daveofyorkshire301
Guinness is brewed in Dublin, Ireland, which is in the EU.
@@daveofyorkshire301 books? I can name dozens lmao. Are they relevant? Probably not since most of the books I read are Fantasy or books like the ones from Dan Brown. I still understood what he was talking about. You didn't, clearly
ETA: Trudi Canavan has some amazing books as well. Check them out 🥰
The first real reaction that's more than laughing or saying "this is funny" is at 5:50. That's slightly late for essentially just playing the HeuteShow's video
That was hilarious! Right on the nail Joel. The 52% that voted to leave ought to be forced to watch this on a regular basis, if for no other reason than the fact that they were so gullible & easily led by self serving politicians who had nothing other than the ‘I put myself & party before the well being of the nation’. I’m still angry about this. Thanks Joel 👍👍👍
Why should you be "angry" at an act of democracy? Maybe you should be grateful for it, because with the AfD in second place in some German polls, and Nazi's being elected all over the continent, goosesteps will soon be heard in the European Parliament. Do you really want British politics to be associated with this new German rabble of Stormtroopers....?
The majority of politicians were pro-remain, dummy, and literally none of the things they said have come true. 🤣 Any economic issues right now are due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, and only idiots can't see that lol
I really enjoy your channel , keep doing what you do. You really need to go to the Munich Oktoberfest. This is something so odd and special .. the behavior of foreign visitors getting wild .. priceless. Let me know when you need support for your flight ticket. I am pretty sure peoble will donate money for you to fly to Munich. Greetings from Zurich, Sascha.
Guinness is Irish... I believe they were referring to simple ale...
As you might have seen, many videos from the Heute Show exist on UA-cam.
I have a different suggestion: A real speech of a representative in the European Parliament. It's probably too short for a reaction video (1 minute), but you might like it anyways.
The Title is: " Rede: Nico Semsrott und die Finanzkammer des Schreckens "
oh yeah please watch Nico Semsrott a comedian who got elected as a EU politician and he created whole comedy shows about his experiences as a member of european parliament.
Guiness is owned by heineken (dutch i think) apart from that it s irish the fish for fish and chips is nowadays imported from norway and the potatoes might as well come from the european mainland…. so what exactly which products are they famous for? Lol
NO OTHER COUNTRIES did the Brexit. And no other European countries have awful politicians to the extent that Britain does. Best from London.
3 more...^^

Start with Hypa Hypa. There was so many great reacting videos all around the world to that song.
Maybe you should do some Volker Pispers who is one of the sharpest and hilarious comedian/cabaretist in Germany. Especially his videos on the American foreign policy (part 1- 5) should be interesting for you (subtitles in English). One of your collegues from Scotland (Who is Mert?) loves it. Very fact oriented and sharp on the point!
Yes, but it‘s bound to be mentally challenging for a US American…..
Mert is Scottish, he basically already knew half of the bs the U.S. were trying to sell for going to war in the Middle East.
Hilarious and mostly accurate 😂
You should check out Michael Mittermeier. He is a German Comedian, who has some Performances in English.
Just for Laughs in Canada was great imo
love you dude
Ssy-D-F 😂🙏🏽🙏🏽 you pronounce the Z (ZDF) ...really hard, really German 😂 never Heard it like you said it😂😂🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
"Zee" is a standard pronunciation of the letter Z, particularly in the USA - though the first known literary reference to "zee" was in an ENGLISH book, written by Thomas LYE (1621-84).
Would love to see this kind of videos where TV-shwos in other countries make fun of Germany
The same show does it already.
As long as everyone can laugh abt each other politics we good.
Enjoyed the vid🫶🏼
The background pictures are second to none... Brexorcist etc, always absolutely hilarious. Though sometimes they don't translate into English at all.
5:35 absolutely 😁👍
"die Heute Show" did a few shows about brexit over the past years
Dietmar Wischmeyer is the only solid german comedian, he is like a more eloquent Louis CK (meaning storytelling/structuring) mixed with the anger of Hassknecht. I hope … really really hope there are english subtitles and that the humor translates. He is the harsh and also on the Heute Show.
Agreed. I’m a fan of his since his radio shows in the 90s.
Of course there are more heute show clips about brexit😂
I laughed with you, very funny your laughing ^^
JP, there are a lot more comedy shows in germany.
Have you ever seen Kaya Yanar, Didi Hallervorden, Loriot, Otto, Volker Pispers, Michael Mittermaier? I don't know, if all are translated.
German humour was ever underestimated, it's very direct and rough ;)
Guinness is from Ireland, so we still have to drink it in the EU...😉😉
They used a pic of Guinness as a real English beer would have hurt the eye too much... maybe even would have caused traumas... After all, they are a responsible and caring satire show.
Heya and greetings from Germany! ^v^/
Yeah, the "Heute Show" is really one of the best political satire-shows we have, in my humble opinion.
XD
As for your question about more content of the "ZDF Heute Show": They have their own channel here on YT as well. (Simply search for ZDF Heute Show) ;) Currently they are on summer-break, which usually lasts until September, sometimes more, sometimes less. But the rest of the year (more or less) they bring one episode a week. So yeah, lotta stuff. :3
Thank you for your reaction and have great day!
Looks sideways at the current state of the US. We are currently Trump lite at the moment. Very sad.
So glad we left the EU. Their constant meddling in our affairs was disgusting. There are economic problems all over the world right now due to Covid and the Ukraine war, but leave it to a few simpleton remoaners to blame it on Brexit 🤣🤣🤣
@@c_n_b when they said public education was in shambles i wasnt aware of how bad it really is.
Thanks for enlightening me.
"You can't hate on the Guiness and fish'n'chips"

If you like german political comedy and satire, you should definitely check out Volker Pispers history of usa and terrorism. But take care, it's straight in your face, dark, brutal and honest.
Many people gets offended quick by his political cabaret. But Volker Pisper is one of a generation. Highly intellectual, on point, fair, funny and he'll teach you something, i swear.
