This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth located all over Indian subcontinent and is dedicated to Goddess Surkanda - a manifestation of feminine divine. The temple is famous for its architectural beauty and its location - perched at an altitude 2,700 meters that offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding region along with the snowy Himalayan peaks.
This temple is situated on the Surkut mountain, hence the name of this temple is Sirkhanda Devi Temple. However, due to time, the name of this temple has become world-famous, such as Surkanda Devi Temple. This Surkanda Devi Temple is located in Dhanaulti. To reach the temple, you will have to walk for 2 km, then you can reach the temple. Although the Ropeway has also been started at the Surkanda Devi temple, due to excessive snowfall in 2022, it has been closed.
सुरकंडा पहाड़ी टिहरी जनपद के पश्चिमी भाग में 2750 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर सुरकंडा मंदिर के लिए प्रसिद्ध है जो की एक शक्तिपीठ है। यह मसूरी चंबा मार्ग पर पर्यटन स्थल धनोल्टी से 8 कि०मी० की दूरी पर तथा नरेन्द्र नगर से लगभग 61 कि०मी० की दूरी पर स्थित है। चंबा मसूरी रोड पर कद्दुखाल नामक स्थान है जहाँ से लगभग 2.5 कि०मी० की पैदल चढाई कर सुरकंडा माता के मंदिर तक पहुंचा जाता है। सुरकंडा माता का मंदिर घने जंगल से घिरा हुआ है। प्रकृति का सुरम्य एवं सुन्दर वातावरण इस स्थान को पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है। यहाँ से देहरादून, ऋषिकेश, चकराता, प्रतापनगर और चन्द्रबदनी के सुंदर दृश्य दिखाई देते हैं।
माता सती के शरीर के 51 भाग जहाँ जहाँ गिरे वहां पवित्र शक्ति पीठ की स्थापना हुयी और जिस स्थान पर माता सती का सिर गिरा वह सिरकंडा कहलाया जो कालान्तर में सुरकंडा नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गया।
सुरकंडा के साथ पर्यटक धनोल्टी और कनाताल भी घूमते है जो की बहुत ही सुंदर हिल स्टेशन है।

देहरादून स्थित जौलीग्रांट निकटतम हवाई अड्डा है जो यहाँ से 94 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है | सुरकंडा, मसूरी एवं समीपवर्ती स्थानों के लिए यहाँ से टैक्सी सेवाएँ उपलब्ध हैं |
ट्रेन द्वारा
देहरादून निकटतम रेलवे स्टेशन है जो यहाँ से 66 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है | देहरादून से दून एक्सप्रेस, मसूरी एक्सप्रेस और दिल्ली से देहरादून शताब्दी और जन शताब्दी आदि जैसे नियमित ट्रेन उपलब्ध हैं। अधिकांश रेल गाड़ियों के लिए कनेक्टिंग शहर दिल्ली है |
सड़क के द्वारा
सुरकंडा अन्य शहरों से सड़क मार्ग द्वारा बहुत अच्छे से जुड़ा है |चम्बा से सुरकंडा के लिए बुकिंग में टैक्सी सेवाएँ उपलब्ध हैं | मसूरी से सुरकंडा, धनोल्टी, एवं निकटवर्ती हेतु टैक्सी सेवाएँ उपलब्ध हैं |
