If their goal is to only have a "broader" audience aka the fortnite fanbase then killing Arbiter would be the worst decision
because if they did, I would personally lead a rebellion, raise an army.. and together!

I'm a psychonauts, marvel, & halo fan. I'm probably going to ask bob Zanotto to get me some of that mind-wiping juice (that's alcohol) & ask Thor to lace it with some of that 1000 year old stuff (more alcohol) to knock me out of a lot of bad things in halo right now. Then again, I might be more drunk that I might say "excelsior" in Age of Ultron(RIP Stan Lee).

but then, if that broader audience becomes fans, what happens to them?

Then the cycle repeats in a decade when 343 wants all the fans from whatever the next Fortnite or Warzone is.
They just want casual fans who don't really care about continuity, respecting the old content, being consistent with the games, basically people who don't care if the game is good or not. Who won't challenge 343 on their decisions and are used to and accepting of this style of slowly drip feeding content into the game, because they've been conditioned by a decade of terribly managed games.

hopefully not. My dream is that we get to see Arbiter alongside Chief like in Halo 3 again, that they also talk to each other and not be completely silent.
