2:13 - THE APPLETINI
Sometimes you just want a drink that tastes of GREEN, so to make this cheesy club classic, the Appletini, you will need:
SPECS:
45ml (1 1/2oz) De Kuyper Sour Pucker Apple Schnapps
45ml (1 1/2oz) Ketel One vodka
Slice of Granny Smith apple (garnish- rub with lemon or dip in lemon juice to stop it going brown)
EQUIPMENT:
Shaker tin
Hawthorn strainer
Fine strainer
Oversized martini glass
One of the factors in the popularity of this drink (besides the greenness and sweetness!) seems to have been the size- a lot of the recipes I found actually gave the measurements in cups! Well, quarter cups but still… so I have kept it suitable large here, but bear that in mind when choosing your glassware.
METHOD:
Add your ingredients to the mixing glass and shake hard. I know I always tell you that if the drinks is all booze it should be stirred, but this Appletini doesn’t play by the rules! Strain in to your ostentatiously large martini glass, float your apple slice on top, serve, and party like its 1997!
So now you know…
5:18 - THE APPLE MARTINI
If you prefer your drinks not to come in luminous green, the fun apple flavour can easily be merged with a classic vodka martini (aka Kangaroo) for a classy Apple Martini. And if martinis get you going, you should definitely check out my other videos on them!
SPECS:
45ml (1 1/2oz) Belvedere Vodka
15ml (1/2oz) Massanez Pomme Verte Liqueur
15ml (1/2oz) Dolin Dry vermouth
Absinthe Rinse
Apple fan garnish focus on me slicing/assembling this
EQUIPMENT:
Mixing glass
Bar spoon
Julep strainer
Coupe glass
METHOD:
Stir all ingredients in mixing glass until cold and diluted. Strain in to coupe glass and garnish with an apple fan (we had to keep in a nod to this drink’s 90s roots!).
A sophisticated take on the Appletini- so now you know!
BONUS MAKE
9:48 - THE 'EASY ON THE TINI'
SPECS:
20ml (2/3oz) vodka - Belvedere/Zubrowka/Ketel One
20ml (2/3oz) apple liqueur - Massanez Pomme Verte but Giffard and Cartron
20ml (2/3oz) cloudy apple juice (it definitely can’t be from concentrate!)
20ml (2/3oz) lemon juice
5ml (1/6oz or a barspoon) sugar syrup (dependant on the sweetness of your apple juice)
Apple fan garnish (soak in lemon juice to stop it from going brown)
EQUIPMENT:
Shaker tin
Hawthorn strainer
Fine strainer
Coupe
METHOD:
Add all ingredients to shaker tin, shake on ice, strain in to coupe, garnish with apple fan.
So now you know! - Навчання та стиль
At 4:06 "tastes like regret." That sounds like the voice of experience.
😇 😂
i came for the drinks and i suscrubed for your accent :D
When I was 21 we were drinking a drink we called an apple pucker f*cker upper. In a rocks glass it was a LOT of vodka, a little of pucker, and then topped off with a splash of ginger ale. It's still a favorite of mine...haven't had one in years though.
Thank you for sharing recipes from Bomba so that those of us on the other side of the Pacific can visit vicariously!
We like to keep it light and bright 🍏! I’m just glad I remembered how to do it, looking forward to getting back behind the stick...

Tastes like regret! Hahaha I think tears came out while laughing. :@)
Gteat drink and sharing about the story behind it is awesome. Thank you!
Hahaha I had a fairly misspent youth 😇
"tastes like regret"... best line of the video... haha! I don't even drink that much but I'm hooked on this channel!
Was doing the dishes while just sort of listening, literally laughed out loud when as I was transported back via the magical music of the Verve and Hanson’s Mmmbop :)
I can't wait to try this !
So thoroughly enjoy the content of your channel. Your humor is priceless. Fan in the States.
So glad you enjoyed Jamie- I definitely try not to take anything too seriously!
Watching this with a hangover ...I'm starting to feel better! Great video!
Thank you for teaching how to make the Appletini!
I felt generous: All of the above!
Great video! Thank you.
Pretending that we were grown ups and served these at our “cocktail party “ thanks for the throwback
The entire first half with all the pop culture references took me back to my early college days😂
Can't stop laughing at the intro! Best. Description. EVER!!! 😂
Entertaining, pleasant, and informative... also I checked out your new website and it’s well done!
So many compliments! Thanks pal 😊
A few nightmares of my early adult life flashed before my eyes. I will have to try the bonus one. Great video!
I first learn from Dada Bartender of cocktailindia, then from Mr Patterson, then from mancave and now I am learning from you o goddess of wine!
Love these videos- interesting and informative
Thanks Carrie!
Not apple, but the bar at Carthay Circle in Disney's California Adventure serves up a pear "martini" along these lines. It is glorious!
The videos are very clear, simple and educational. This accent is addictive and the girl is very cute. Such a pleasure watching this channel 😍
"regret". This will be on the list tonight. The modern one will have to wait for my next shelf top-up.
Love Apple martinis thanks for sharing. Everyone who loves it should try to find the van Gogh, wild apple vodka, the best apple martini.
The dry Martini, is my favourite! Having said that, it's the only one I have ever had. I am usually a whiskey sour person!!!
Brilliant content. So informative. Smooth presentation. And some classic memories with this drink. Well- hazy ones! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Mel! I was trying to remember the name of the bar on Royal Exchange Square- definitely sank a few Appletinis there haha
Behind the Bar, was it Social? Or do you mean the club?
Yes, social! I think they had two for one French Martinis as well- that has to go on the list haha. I don’t think I could get away with a video on lining up 50 vodka red bulls at Bamboo...
Behind the Bar , now that would be a shock to the viewers! ‘Guys, today I’m talking about how my love affair of mixology started.........one night in Bamboo......’ 😂😂
first time i had this & love it, best one yet
Haha you’re finding a new favourite every day John!
@@BehindtheBar i am lol
Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely on board with the absinthe + apple combo (although I might gravitate to applejack over vodka).
If you can get ahold of it, Xtabentún could be an interesting add to the Bomba version (adjustments for sweetness from there).
Ooh I’ll have to keep a look out! I know, one of my friends and I were discussing the best version we’ve ever had was with Calvados but wanted to keep it an easy transition from the original...another episode perhaps 😊
The new website looks great!
Thanks pal! Josh has worked really hard on it 😊
The first time I ever got drunk was to appletinis while doing a drinking game to an episode of scrubs. Fond memories, indeed.
Sounds like a fun night!
Andrew Weinberger I got drunk and sick with Appletini and blue Long Island 🤕 🤢
Doesn't look cheesy, to me! Looks like paradise, in a glass!!!
I use to go there back in the day. Lolas was a popular spot in West Hollywood. Was the first place I actually tried the Apple Martini. They were pretty good. 2 of them tini’s and I was felling pretty good. 😃👍
I’m sure!
"Taste like regret" almost fell out f my chair! Brilliant!
😂
Ha I completely forgot this existed. Thanks for bringing back the memories and yup, definitely tasted like regret! 😂
😂
I love that garnish
so cute that schnapps tongue twister :)
had a "Black Martini" once it was actually purple lemon vodka, chambord and some other stuff i couldn't see everything he put in there i little too fruity but i did enjoy it :)
Year 2000 and always makes me smile if it's mayed right so I've chosen to make it myself lol
Loved the backstory. Thank you! Random fact. De Kuyper and Ketel One, are both Dutch. Both from Schiedam. A small city next to Rotterdam. And I think they're (now) owned by the same (holding) company.
And apples are the most produced fruit of the Netherlands. 🍏
That’s a good Apple fact! Ketel One is Diageo and De Kuyper is Bacardi so not the same parent company, but maybe the Dutch connection is why they work so well together haha!
thank you share your cocktail
Came for the knowledge, stayed for the TRANSCENDENCE of princess-sleeved navy-and-white-polka-dots. What a treasure.
This might be my favourite comment ever.
Apple slices would be a good snack with this drink
Hilarious, "tastes like regret '. Never had this, but I do remember the music, blue, red and purple drinks.
It was a time!
I love calvados or apple jack but I never thought of mixing it with either absinthe or vodka but rather with whiskey or rye. I'll try and let you know.
Good job by the way
Thanks! I love Calvados and Applejack, and they can definitely work in lighter, more aperitif style drinks as well. Try a Pan American Clipper- basically a Jack Rose with a dash of absinthe (Apple brandy, lime, grenadine) 😊
Great video and tutorial...! But, when you were describing the first drink and said it wasn't as bad as you remember when you were in your teens, I knew I have to subscribe. Thank you!
😂
Thumbs up just for fun.. and regret. I never really drank these things, but I remember making a lot of them at parties -- but I also remember using a sugar rim with them.
Even more regret.
My husband is a sucker for an apple martini
These were some great drinks. I am making the appletini in my Martini week coming up in a few weeks. What size martini glasses are you using. I think my glasses are too big. 9oz.
Definitely not too big for the original haha- that Appletini can be as big as you want to make it...
I feel like substituting a nice dry calvados for the vodka in the "sophisticated" one could be pretty great, I might have to give that a try.
That sounds like a great sub. Curious how it comes out
My guilty pleasure drink. Luckily I can get the same taste from a hard cider without the ridicule.
I remember first drinking this at a casino bar when my girl order it for me before we went to gamble lol 😆
wow you can really taste the apples
Not my tease but love learning from you 😘
For my 90s hangouts, Apple tini was too froufrou. We had apple pie shots instead
This is the first time I heard the full on, "If all the ingredients are booze, you should stir." That really excited me. Can you explain more why that's the preference?
All about the texture! Stay tuned as we have an episode on it coming out in the next month or so 😊
Well done. Trying to find a less “teenage” appletini. I just found two. Thanks.
As much as I love all the hard work you and your team put into this I have to admit a Appletini is sort of pushing my boundries a bit! But hey may be it's a green eggs and ham thing! :-)
Haha maybe the classy one would work for you Steve? Don’t worry, there’s some non disco drinks coming up!
LOL'd for real at "Tastes like regret"!!!
😂
2003 New Years Eve with an open bar with makes it easy to try new things. It remains my New Years Eve drink and I don't give a damn what anybody thinks.
That’s great, I love traditions like that!
The apple fan adds SO MUCH as a proud bar patron. Our bartender likes to put opposing fans on either side of his pear martini and tries to join them in the middle for special occasions{ at this bar, darkness counts as a special occasion) hasn't got it to stay yet. Any tips? The appletini was my first cocktail also! I don't taste booze so let's have several. oops.
🍏 😋
What's your opinion of the atomizer method of doing an absinthe rinse?
My opinion is that it’s absolutely easier and faster, but I forgot to bring it this time haha! Check out the Corpse Reviver videos, I use it there 😊
Came here for the Scrubs reference. Was not disappointed.
Couldn’t not! Especially given I spent most of my uni study time watching that show instead- thank you C4 haha
So now I know
I still love an Appletini ❤️🍏
I’ve enjoyed it using apple flavoured vodka, normal vodka when in a pinch 😂
Ooh I’ve never seen apple flavoured vodka- there’s a whole world to explore haha. How do you normally make them?
Behind the Bar I procured it from a local Polish supermarket. Equal measures of both vodkas with a splash of cloudy Apple to taste, shaken, served. It’s all a subjective measure depending if you want booze forward or the sweetness element
😋
Do you know a comparable brand for the sour apple pucker in Canada/US??
It should be available in the States, it’s where the drink was invented haha! According to the internet Walmart has it...
So much love for another Scrubs fan
Many a lost afternoon to it haha
Can you even get Massanez Pomme Verte Liqueur in the USA? If so, where?
According to wine searcher it’s in 20,000 plus stores in the US but given the size of the country that could still mean it’s fairly niche- it’s in Dan Murphy’s here which is our big nationwide liquor store but the US doesn’t seem to have an equivalent? Where are you situated?
prettiest and most adorable bartender.
"Tastes like regret" 🤣🤣🤣
In my teens the drink was either big apple bacardi with schweppes or plain catuaba (preferably on the rocks, but skip it if you don't have glasses hanging around anyways).
What would you call a drink that's:
60ml vodka
30ml green apple syrup
30ml water
few drops absinthe
I skipped the vermouth cuz there was none in my bar, but it tasted good anyways.
Oooh I don’t know what you’d call it but was it good?!
How did this come out? Feel like it could go either way!
I've never had an appletini. Looks like I've been missing out.
**Dusts off OK Computer CD and puts on a flannel shirt**
Mmm: Apple-y. 🍎 🍸
I start drinking them in 2020 after rewatching Scrubs😀
😂
I had from first one at Lola's. No regret, just pretty trendy at the time.
That’s cool- the original?!
Yep, the original. I was dragged there by a female friend who insisted we order them. They even had $5 Apple Martini specials on occasion to get folks to order them before it took off in popularity.
Terry Rindal haha that’s amazing! Did you enjoy it?
No regret, but I never fully understood why she made a big deal of it I Prefer other cocktails then and now.
Believe it or not, had my first one in a hotel bar north of London.
Haha I can believe it, they were eagerly adopted by the UK!
17? We all know in the U.K. drinking in some random field starts at 15
😇
Hahaha I was thinking the same. And it happens practically everywhere.
At 15 is that all?
Yeah, I've never had this neon green schapps, but I viscerally remember a "green apple" flavored vodka impairing my already poor adolescent judgement 😅
We’re talking binge drinking here. General alcohol consumption starts around 12.
When I make an appletini I add a bit of fireball yum yum yum
I feel like that would have killed back in the day
So you shook the appletini. Have you tried doing a side by side comparison of a shaken versus stirred martini?
Was sticking with the original for that version, and they shook it! I have done in real life but not on camera- can definitely understand why some like the crispness of shaken, I just prefer it stirred and smoother 😊
So the whole “dip a straw in and give it a taste”... I’ve never, not a single time, seen a bartender do this and then make an adjustment to the drink. Am I right in thinking that there is nothing of “check your work” in this and that it’s much more “take your tax, you’ve earned it!” 😂👍🏻
Haha your bartenders must be less absent minded than me- even on our last shoot day I did it and realised I’d just straight up forgotten the citrus! I don’t tend to have to adjust too much on drinks I make heaps of but certainly ones I’ve never made before. I’ve also done it in a few vids on here when stirring- tastes and decided it needs more dilution. But it’s certainly perk as well 😜
So, can you make a Vodka Red Bull classy, as well??
That might be the limit to my powers...although I have made an Espresso Martini which does the same thing!
what brand are your shaker tins?
Being perfectly honest, just the cheap ones from the local hospitality supplier haha!
I love a fresh & fruity tini
Who doesn’t?!
Love the jokes 😆
Haha glad you appreciate!
any chance you'd be able to add a bit of class to a caribou lou?
I had to look it up but I’m sure I could give it a shot haha! I mean the Junglebird isn’t a million miles away...
Do you think the Appeltini would go alright with gin instead of vodka?
Depends on the gin but definitely something on the light and fruity end - if you’re in Australia, Seven Seasons has a bush apple gin which would be delicious, or Poor Tom’s would work well too.
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have to get myself another bottle of Poor Tom's again. I haven't come across Seven Seasons .I might give it a go with 3 Folds . (Even though I think 3 Folds is at it's best neat )
Is your bar back open yet?
It’s opening today, but not as a bar- the rules are that you have to have a meal, table service and with the distancing it’s just not possible at the moment. So it’s more of an overflow for the restaurant downstairs. Weird times!
Apple tini
4oz jim beam apple stirred in ice pore in glass put a wedge of apple there you go. Lol
😂
I associate Pucker with puking and hangovers, just because of how the sugary cocktails wind up hitting you afterward.
That’s fair! Try the other one 😉
You look nice. Keep up
Thanks!
I made my appletini's with vodka, apfelkorn and apple juice
I don’t know what apfelkorn is but it’s fun to say!
@@BehindtheBar yeah definitely much easier than the one liqueur you used. Apfelkorn is a German sweet liqueur made from wheat and apple flavored. You can also drink it straight and on the rocks. Pop the bottle in the freezer so its ice cold. And the Apfelkorn should be syrupy.
JONA cool! I’ll have to search for it!
You should go to podcast
Pls do Pina colada
So many cocktails to do but we’ll be filming this one very soon so keep an eye out in a month or two!
@@BehindtheBar my wife Likes this Post😊
Nonsense, the late 90s! If I had to guess, I would have thought that was the time, around you were born.
Nah I just made the 80s!
Appletini, man I remember the girlie cred around these drinks, out of the league of alcopops but chemically the same thing ha ha ha. For mouthfeel that lasts longer than temperature can sustain add glycerine! Big difference in hot countires. I'm fed up of martini viscosity going 'off' so I stopped drinking it. Nobody drinks it in the middle east. Maybe I should go shaken instead. Not sure of the difference. Ill keep telling the guys about glycerine, its the best of a bad situation. Maltodextrin is ok for other drinks, but too sweet for martinis.
1: Where did I first hear of the Appletini? Here, I think....
2: The Hive Mind of the Melbourne bar people.... Why am I thinking of an actual hive with all the cells containing bottles of all types!!!
A very interesting vid, but not catching my tastebuds lol!
Hahaha not too far away from what our minds actually look like! That’s totally fair pal, more of a trip down memory lane...plenty more things coming up to suit all taste buds 😊
18 year old Cara sounds fun! 😂 (Taste like regret). Hope you're still doing silly stuff you can regret (with a smile) in 20 years.
Who’s gonna rub the lemons against the apples let’s hear it
"So what's not to like?" Boone's Farm Apple Wine?
I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure...
@@BehindtheBar The first alcohol I ever consumed. You are lucky to have avoided, but I admit it was fun at the time.
Just wanted to know how to make the sophisticated libation that JD sips on
Haha love a bit of nostalgia!
If disco hadn't have died, I could have had a pair of platform shoes, a little taller anyway
Making the cheesy version tonight. 😅
Oooh enjoy!
Apple , what ?
Not a vodka person... just give me the Apple schnapps
Haha totally fair!
Eep I hope I didn’t come off bad. Love your videos!
Not at all! Everyone has their preferences 😊 thanks pal!
Tastes like regret 😂😂😂
