Another review by a bloke that waffles on and never opens the throttle or gets on a bit of dirt. After 102,000km in outback South Australia, I can tell you way more about this bike than Mr Boring Commuter. It's a long way to anywhere from here, there's a lot of dirt/back tracks in every direction, and I love to let mine off the chain. All the power you'll ever need. Haven't seen any Ewan/Charlie copycats on my street yet, because they are afraid of coming up short on talent and horsepower. My traction control is always off, because I trust my decades of bush riding more than I trust a computer. Shame you can't the same to the abs if you ask me. It's the modern way I guess. Having said that, if you haven't got a few skills, don't ride this bike in my backyard. It's not a beginner's bike. It has over 100hp and 100nm of torque. And If you need to rely on electronics to keep you upright, you may as well buy a 250! Open highway is great. Stacks of instant grunt to overtake tripple trailered road trains in a flash. Decent range too. Up to 400km at cruising speed. Handles totally amazing on the dirt. Absolutely heaps of power to chew up the terrain. Shinko 705 tyres on mine for confidence. Two up is no problem with all that torque. When I do the 6 hour ride to the city, I love that I am head and shoulders over the traffic. 0 to 100 in under 3 seconds comes in handy too. Sport bikes love to drag off everyone and indulge in lots of ducking and weaving. They get a bit of a surprise when some bloke on a dusty ag bike is glued to their arse. Reliability is second to none. I have an old dl650 with 165,000km on it in my shed. When I upgraded, I was unable to get a decent price as a trade in, so I kept it. No sign of a rattle, oil leak, or even so much as a blown globe! Pretty sure no GS could make that claim. I love mine. I ride it so much harder than this video, and it never ever misses a beat. Ever! The best bit is the price. What's not to like? Happy trails
I thought you might enjoy my experiences with the amazing v strom. Putting around suburbia is a total waste of this weapon. These things are built to take on the tough stuff, and to keep on going for hundreds of thousands of km. I've even ridden mine up Mt Wudinna, get this, two-up!! That's a bloody big granite rock in my front yard, second only in size to Australia's biggest rock Uluru in the red centre. Take my word for it mate, it's not called an "adventure" bike for nothing. Crack the throttle, and don't hang on so tight! These bikes go on so much better than you realise. Enjoy. Happy trails
So you’re telling me it should be fine for my commute and dropping the boy off at school? Maybe even enough for me to pack a tent and a few tins of beans and go away for a weekend or so?
I bought this exact Model as an in-between bike whilst waiting for an upgrade of something else - but now I love it - great handling - comfortable - so smooth - excellent wind protection - economical and more than enough power. Everyone thinks that they have to have all the gismos (which I've had on other bikes) but no-one ever uses them, except for maybe cruise control on long highway rides - I used it once in the last 40k km - ride modes you put it in one mode and ride it - ive never used rain mode on any bike - just dont twist the throttle so much - A quick shifter is always nice but at 63 ive only ever had two that work properly on a Yamaha and a Suzuki GSX1000Gt - the BMW R1200R quickshifter was hopelesss, so never used it The Vstrom is Great in the Twisties and Great on the Highway - its a realworld bike - Love it
🫡Yeah they are kinda budget but if you can accept that, they are lovely bikes. The gizmos are can help, I undertand. But I'm an old fart now 😅😅Interesting what you say about the quick shifters.
You really made a good choice. The V-Strom is reliable and well tested over the years. That extra power from the 650 to the 1050 just makes it more fun to ride. You’re excited and satisfied, that’s the main thing! 😜 Let the good weather come and enjoy riding on your very good looking bike! 😎

Hello Mr. German Jobbies. Just made a deal today to trade some bikes in on a '24 black 1050 DE. Have had 2 gen 3 DL 650's and one is going into the trade. Still going to miss my 650. It was simple, dependable, handled the twisties with excellence. All in all a great bike. The DE is a little tall for me and a lot of others, but I'm looking to tour the country and thought this would be a good choice. Wanted the standard model but wasn't willing to wait. You're better off without all the electronic gizmos. The DE has too much I'll never use.
