The Untold Story of Baby Jessica, Art Daniels and American Express

Halfway through my interview with Art Daniels, President of Associated General Contractors of America, someone asks about Jessica.
“Oh, you heard about that?” Daniel replied.
Daniels proceeded to provide a little known account of the rescue of Baby Jessica, the infant who fell 22 feet down an abandoned well in Midland, Texas in 1989.
The event transfixed the world via the then-new 24-news channel CNN.
For nearly two days, Daniel and co-workers cut threw rock harder than granite to reach the child.
Today Jessica, all grown up, does not remember the near tragedy. For Daniel, the event is a milestone.
While his company has tackled some of Texas’ largest water projects, his greatest source of pride are those 58 hours back in Midland - when he moved Heaven and earth.
