One of the top 10 movies ever made. Bruno Ganz, the bunker scene, one of the great character portrayals of all time.

Anthony Hopkins did a great portrayal in The Bunker (1981). However, Ganz the actor, you can sense it, is most likely a likeable man off camera..I know he passed recently. I liked his acting.

Mohnke is one of my favorites in the movie. He’s clearly one of the generals who knows that resisting at this point is useless. But still try’s to do the job he’s forced to do, while still helping citizens and soldiers out when he can. Like when he got into an argument with Goebbels over the people who were literally walking into their deaths

9:32 that speech from Burgdorf, calling Nazi-leaders opportunists who sacrificed a people for their own benefit, is impressive and surprising. When you see his stance in the rest of the movie, being loyal to Hitler and refusing capitulation, it’s really weird hearing this from him.
The Nazi leadership , tours below Hitler never thought of the of the German people in that way . It was a hero worship. So extreme , that we in the west cannot comprehend . Maybe it's just something in the German psyche, or stress of warfare ?
I know, right? I guess they cut it because it would've made his character a bit too deep? I'm honestly disappointed. I would've loved it.

Wow, the recording up until that point was a cut scene, I guess, but it's a fascinating glimpse into Burgdorf's character.
He's saying that he was blindly idealistic to the cause as a young officer and that hundreds of thousands of young soldiers died for nothing. Not for the Fatherland nor for the Future. For them (the generals).
Pretty ballsy of the Germans to review their own dark history in this manner. Outstanding film.

Justus von Dohnányi is effing brilliant! Totally convincing. I don't know if Burgdorf ever stood up to HItler, but Dohnanyi made it believable..

In the film, with makeup, the Himmler actor looks so scary as him. Then in normal life at 15:06 he looks so not like Himmler at all heh. Amazing how this film was made.

@@0cer0 Because some of the surviving witnesses that were there described the situation in detail in various books and most of what is in those books is depicted in the film, Traudl Junge is only one of the ones that told her story
Andre Hennicke as Mohnke is superb. A stoic soldier rather than a fanatical SS man and trying to cope with an impossible, catastrophic situation.
One of the greatest war movies ever made. Was so oppressive to watch.

A very good movie made by the German film industry director John ford would be impressed with this film's historic realism and scope of outdoor film scope. My mother was the same age as Traudi Junge and served as a civilian in a supply company for parts to the Wehrmacht army. She later worked as a civilian worker in the U.S. Army mess hall where she met my father. I was born there in Sindelfingen.

I watched "Downfall", for the 1st time, during the ongoing War in Ukraine and was struck by similarities, past and present.
Though the current war is obviously not a Second World War event (yet), there were the invading Russians and their indiscriminate bombardments, an isolated, unhinged and ruthless dictator surrounded by yes-men and unable to discern reality as the world opposed him, and of course, armored infantry/artillery once again destroying European cities. History repeats.
Great movie, which I watched with English subtitles.

Also how does Ukraine, accepting military aid, to fight a war it is severely disadvantageous in, count as it being a tool? By your logic, then the USSR was just a tool for the western allies since it relied very heavily on the lend lease program to sustain itself from German attacks. Without it, the USSR would have a much harder time recovering. So by your logic aswell, Germany were the good guys of WW2, resisting the allies for their exterminations and extremist beliefs.
Yeah the closest thing to a Nazi right now is Russia itself. It has way, way more parallels to the 3rd Reich.
So in short
1. You have 0 basis on them other than conspiracy and Russian propaganda.
This is evident by the fact that a lot of Russian media outlets since ethe war broke out, are now under lockdown, with extremists now running it. For example, r/Russia, a subreddit which used to be a decently great way of learning about anything from Russia, is now very suppressed and free speech is no longer a thing. Anything against the Russia is deleted.
2. Your argument makes no sense and can be disproven by a very simple history.
3. At the start of the war, Ukraine only utilized what it has on hand. But it still managed to hold against a much larger more "superior" force. But now we are seeing that most of the Russian forces aren't all that experienced. Ukraine, despite the smaller numbers, is holding the Russians at bay. Plus the 2023 military parade in Moscow was just depressing. Just a single tank? Damn that's sad. There's no denying that was Moscow and not St. Petersburg, as various reports and investigation says and show it was Moscow.
American presence is undeniable. But if America truly wanted to support Ukraine to off Russia, then they could send more supplies and weapons to Ukraine, but they aren't and are only supplying Ukraine the bare minimum.
This is basically the winter war in South-Eastern Europe. Your information comes from conspiracy and misinformation, not undeniable evidence and not simple logic. If you're so fanatical, why don't you be the one that goes to war alongside Russia, like what the volunteer fighters are doing in Ukraine.

This movie was beyond great!
We saw two of them in Das Experiment directed by the same director of Downfall, Christian Berkel (Schenck) and Justus Van Dohnanyi (Burgdorf), they plays Steinoff and Berus, the candidat and the evil guard. If you remember, Berus humiliate Tarek Fahd (Moritz Bleibreu) by a headshave.

Near the 10 minute mark that deleted scene of Burgdorf ranting to the other military men should have stayed in the movie the actor did a great job in the role.Or at least it be good to see all other deleted scenes released like Fegelin being interrogated.
