To play devils advocate, I think Alex was still thinking of the older XPS 15 with the webcam under the screen, which are attrocious, and then didn't actually look at the quality of this newer XPS with a considerably better webcam while using it. I suspect that when presenting at LMG, your mind is completely occupied with doing a professional presentation, and not so much with what's actually in front of you
the Sony Starvis sensor is actually an outdated sensor technology cut to a different dimension, so although nice it is not _that_ impressive. But still it has the potential of giving a better and more consistent image than most webcams out there.
I use a Renewed GoPro 5 with an HDMI El Gato Capture dongle, a Tripod and some power cables. The whole rig is powered and connected through USB-C. It takes a miniHDMI->HDMI cable and a USB3 -> USB Mini power cable. I spend about $250 dollars on the entire rig, and I can stream in 1080p 60 and record in 4k 60 or 2k 120. It can be used without battery or with and record with or without memory cards. It's a way better solution than a web cam, works on any desktop or laptop, is more versatile, high quality, longer lasting and portable.
1/2.8 inch isn't generally going to be the actual size of the sensor because it's an old video tubey way of talking about sensor size which includes the size of the surrounding (now-nonexistent) tube, it overstates the size by about 1.5x so a 1/2.8 in = 9mm sensor comes out closer to 6.something mm.
That sensor is TINY. Maybe bigger than cheaper webcams but still extremely small compared to any smartphone from the past 5 years and definitely not comparable to any interchangeable lens camera.
I've done a ton of research into deciding which webcam to get. I landed on the Nexigo N660P. It does a solid job, is 1080p 60fps. Lucked out and got it for $22 off Amazon renewed (because it's white, but a bit of paint fixes that.) A more budget contender is the Aukey webcam. It's like $27 on their site or Walmart. The only issue is the FOV is huge so you'll need to use OBS to zoom in a bit (which does lose a bit of image quality but it's fine.) I'm convinced that anything beyond that $55 model of webcam is a complete waste of money. It gives solid performance with a reasonable footprint and it always just works. If you want to go higher end then get a cheap DSLR and deal with setting that up. The $200 webcams are complete nonsense. One thing to note is that you need lighting. Every webcam will look garbage if you are using it in a dungeon. A monitor mounted light bar works great for this and is a very useful addition to any desk.
So is all of the stuff happening with the dell software ? It would have been good if you showed how it would work where no software is installed (which is how most work laptops would work), and also how does this compare to the Logitech Brio
For anyone thinking of buying this webcam - if your PC only supports an S3 sleep state don't bother as you won't be able to use the wake up detection feature shown in this video (thanks Dell)... You can check what sleep states your PC supports by opening command prompt as admin and typing `powercfg /availablesleepstates`. Dell should really make that clear in their advertising material... it was one of the biggest selling points for me. I'm sending mine back for a refund.
There is an app Air... something that allows you to use your phone camera for video calls on desktops/laptops. It's almost free. If you have old phones that are of no use, you can use them for monitoring of homes too with this app. There is no need for more clutter on your desk.
More like 360p. No joke I thought UA-cam was using 360p or 480p but no. I was watching in 4K. (I was just listening before they showed the actual image)
What was teh microphone like? Did we test that? Windows Hello is a nice bonus. A lot of cameras with it seem to be around £200 (or are potatoes for £50)
Framerate priority would be better on the 1080p60fps setting for this dell ultrasharp webcam. As I’m sure you’re aware this webcam does support 1080p60fps.
I just bought a Sony camcorder (300$ new, i got it used for 80$) and a cheapo 20$ hdmi capture stick and it's amazing compared to my Logitech C920 (which is still around 80$). As you mentioned, a phone is a great webcam, too. Tl;Dr: if you need a good webcam, don't buy a webcam

What is missing and the biggest reason I would want something like this - it could be okay just being 1080p, but giving bokeh effect, which it isn't. What's the point, we need great lenses for that tube. Looks like focus was only for sensor. With proper lighting yiu can get by decent image quality, bokeh makes a bigger difference that you just can't get without a dslr.
I am using my old Samsung Galaxy S7 and an app called DroidCam. Will never need to spend on a webcam again. It works so perfectly. All I need really is to be able to control exposure, which the app lets me. From then on, you just need some decent lighting and even that 720p feed from the phone will look so much better than most high-end webcams. Not to mention the price.. the phone was, well free in a way as it is one of my old phones and the app's pro version is around $4 or $5, which I think is well worth it.
Interesting to see Dell copy the iSight camera Apple introduced in 2003. The iSight camera is a beautiful device, that still looks modern today. The fact that someone revived an 18 year old design proves how timeless it truly was.
Of course Dell give the review sample to LTT who puts it in their “not a review” channel but doesn’t give it to UA-cam channels that specialize with streaming content. Something to hide?
A $200 webcam should really have a built-in microphone, even if it's not the greatest. The lack of a mic is a deal breaker that you guys should mention.
Honestly I expected it to be closer to the quality of my Canon m200 with a camlink based on the price. But it's way closer to actual webcams in terms of picture quality. What a bummer.
that laptop built in camera "excuse" for it having to be small isnt really an excuse anymore. phone cameras are often similar in size and outperform all laptops by a mile. companies just never saw it as a selling point for a laptop until zoom became the best way to have meetings :D

Nice contrast, sharp picture, sounds like you're nearly talking to a person IRL "0% 0 stars complete shite, laptop from above example is way better"
Ok, so its not just me...thought I'd have to go get my eyes checked or something...
To play devils advocate, I think Alex was still thinking of the older XPS 15 with the webcam under the screen, which are attrocious, and then didn't actually look at the quality of this newer XPS with a considerably better webcam while using it. I suspect that when presenting at LMG, your mind is completely occupied with doing a professional presentation, and not so much with what's actually in front of you
40 seconds of 4K footage, Alex being Alex.. i guess it makes him feel wierd..
the Sony Starvis sensor is actually an outdated sensor technology cut to a different dimension, so although nice it is not _that_ impressive.
Dell doesn't even say it's a DSLR sensor, why the hell would you say that.
At the very least learn some body language, thats why your stuck watching LTT videos by yourself
Found it weird too. Like he is quoting "DSLR" but didn't see them saying it. Also that's not how DSLR works.
Now all I need is a _4K_ internet connection,
and a job
I love to see how this compares to the brio
from when you started recording on the web cam I thought it looked kind of crappy for 4k. lol
That sensor is TINY. Maybe bigger than cheaper webcams but still extremely small compared to any smartphone from the past 5 years and definitely not comparable to any interchangeable lens camera.
6:35 im guessing you were typing explosion or something
I'm grateful the Apple iSight design lives on
Actually the 1080p looks like more a 720p, and that 4k like 1080p.
The only issue is the FOV is huge so you'll need to use OBS to zoom in a bit (which does lose a bit of image quality but it's fine.)
I'm convinced that anything beyond that $55 model of webcam is a complete waste of money.
There is only one type of person who needs 4k webcams... a certain type of content creators
"The more bigger, the better," indeed.
Can I get a 240p webcam so I can actually look good?
Buy makeup even if you are a boy.
You can just set your webcam to only stream 240p if that is your forte.
cant wait to test out that "expLosure priority"!
gotta use a couple a these for robot eyes
What's the point of 4k Webcam if most people stream at 1080p?
streaming i think
With the follow function it makes sense. So you crop the image to where the person sits.but I must say it looks crap.
@Isaaq If you want to future proof for high quality streams you don't use a webcam.
it's not 4K. It crops 1080p out of 4K to have that tracking
what's the point of a 4k webcam which looks worse than my 3 year old phones 1080p camera?
The design looks like the classic Apple iSight camera circa 2003. Really cool!
Me who is watching at 240p: They are all the same
There is an app Air... something that allows you to use your phone camera for video calls on desktops/laptops. It's almost free. If you have old phones that are of no use, you can use them for monitoring of homes too with this app. There is no need for more clutter on your desk.
4K that looks like 1080p .... yea good job Dell .....
More like 360p. No joke I thought UA-cam was using 360p or 480p but no. I was watching in 4K. (I was just listening before they showed the actual image)
What was teh microphone like? Did we test that? Windows Hello is a nice bonus. A lot of cameras with it seem to be around £200 (or are potatoes for £50)
2002 Apple called they want their iSight design back.
The cylindrical barrel design reminds me of the old Apple iSight camera from 2003.
If a girl has a 4k webcam in a zoom class I'd be a little sus ngl👀.
took me a second but i got it XD XD
gotta make those 200$ worth it i guess...
Edit: if your teacher has a 4k webcam, that is wayyyy more sus
Framerate priority would be better on the 1080p60fps setting for this dell ultrasharp webcam. As I’m sure you’re aware this webcam does support 1080p60fps.
how about i use a $100 android phone with 4k camera as my webcam?
I just bought a Sony camcorder (300$ new, i got it used for 80$) and a cheapo 20$ hdmi capture stick and it's amazing compared to my Logitech C920 (which is still around 80$).
As you mentioned, a phone is a great webcam, too.
Tl;Dr: if you need a good webcam, don't buy a webcam
@@WiboN I've got a spare galaxy s7. How would I go about using it as a webcam? It would probably be better than my 720p $10 Logitech webcam lol
@@jamesdillonmccracken easiest way is to use droid cam on the phone and computer. Slightly more complicated but more flexible way is to us ipcam eith an ip cam grabber program on the computer.
Remember to charge the phone. Streaming the camera feed empties the battery fast af.
Cool the phone if necessary.
Watched this on my Roku. Went to the Dell website on my phone. This webcam was the first thing that popped up. Coincidence? I think not.
you should show this in a real-world scenario since a movie set will always look good :)
Interesting form factor, I'm sure we're going to see these quite often in hospital emergency rooms
Right on time looking for my Webcam. Currently using my phone as a webcam
You won't find a better webcam unless you use a DSLR or point and shoot with clean HDMI output
Just finished a conference on my lenovo 500 fhd webcam. Picture is good under well lit environments, but more importantly i think it's the cheapest webcam with windows hello IR cam.
Kinda surprised the camera operators didn't ask you to try and turn down the contrast.
Teachers: How expensive webcam can be? ShortCircuit:
4:38 to skip to actually seeing the quality for the webcam.
Not to mention the price.. the phone was, well free in a way as it is one of my old phones and the app's pro version is around $4 or $5, which I think is well worth it.
thankfully my fuji xt3 has a webcam software
I see that tech linked and Dawid does stuff have nice taste in music
Interesting to see Dell copy the iSight camera Apple introduced in 2003. The iSight camera is a beautiful device, that still looks modern today. The fact that someone revived an 18 year old design proves how timeless it truly was.
Literally a modern version of the old Apple iSight webcam :)
With the same sensor by the looks of it...
Thumbnail had me fooled there for a second, thought the camera was huge af
Honestly I expected it to be closer to the quality of my Canon m200 with a camlink based on the price. But it's way closer to actual webcams in terms of picture quality. What a bummer.
that laptop built in camera "excuse" for it having to be small isnt really an excuse anymore. phone cameras are often similar in size and outperform all laptops by a mile. companies just never saw it as a selling point for a laptop until zoom became the best way to have meetings :D
That totally reminds me of the OG Apple iSight webcam - which I still have.
First thing I thought of, too. Kinda curious how it holds up… If you could find a computer with a FireWire 400 port besides an old Mac or going out to find a PCI-E card with it.
Would like to see a proper comparison of this vs other webcams on the main LTT channel. This seems like the webcam so many of us have been waiting so long for.
Idk. I don't see anything compelling over Avermedia PW513 or Kiyo Pro. However, this review was pretty high-level.
dont forget guys that youtube compresses the video during upload so the quality of the cam should be higher in the actual stream. esspecially if they used a capture software to get the footage off the laptop this isnt accuate to the quality.
any streaming service will apply a bunch of compression on it anyways as well. it doesn't matter.
@@colinstu not as bad as UA-cam’s tho I was just addressing the comments that were shutting on the camera fr
It’s funny that actually it kind of looks like the newer version of the eyesight camera the Apple made back in 2005
Finally a worthy successor to the original Apple iSight Camera.
windows hello in laptop doesnt have two sensors, there an IR emitter that will turn on.The IR light will light up our face just like the iphone video which showed their face id.
Sorry if im wrong. This is what i know from my experience with a windows hello laptop that i own.
