Why it matters that dinosaurs went extinct in the spring | Melanie During | TEDxStockholm

- Vertebrate paleontologist Melanie During astonished the world of science in 2022 with a discovery published in Nature showing that the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago was so catastrophic because it happened in spring, but then the tale takes a darker twist when rival scientists tried to steal the results, showing that we need to fight fake news even in scientific journals. As a child, Melanie During was an outsider, collecting fossils and devouring books, and she decided to embrace it. That's why she studied earth sciences and delved into extinct life forms. Now, she's a vertebrate paleontologist and currently working on her PhD at Uppsala University in Sweden. She is interested in extinctions and adaptations and everything in between. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Great talk about the importance of trustworthy science and why it's so important to speak up for it! Well done and keep up the good work Melanie During!! 👏👍
Wonderful presentation! Most informative and engaging. Thank You!
Great talk! Well done!
Brilliant and inspiring!!!!
Great presentation Melanie 👍
I'm impressed! great talk!
In a prior message I urged you to consider the implications of your discovery pertinent to predicting future impacts.
Only today I encountered a docudrama treating a future impact. "The Super Comet." I notice that your coauthor Jan Smit participated in this documentary, so I am relieved that my concerns are being considered.
PS I like the attire typical for field paleontology
Very well spoken. I am sorry this happened to you. Thank you for the LinkedIn notification.
Since I messaged to you months ago I was hoping your discovery might have led to further speculation about the origin to the meteor. The last idea was the Baptista asteroid theory, now disproved.
Earth has had several apparently periodic extinctions, possibly due to a very long period comet. Your discovery could be a key to its discovery...and deterrence.
Your paper is referenced in the Smithsonian NASA database, but does not seem to have been referenced by others yet in the astrophysics literature. Perhaps UA-cam is not the best forum to publicize it. A followup interview with Kayleigh would reach 140,000 subscribers. Just a thought.
Bravo!
first! I'm gonna enjoy watching this interesting video!
The Geek Sasha Banks 😂
She’s not Greek
That's such bs that someone took credit for your hard work and discovery!

Frankly the most pointless comment
