  • I've decided to start the new year off right by reading some popular self-help books! I picked all different kinds of books, so let's see which ones I liked and which ones I didn't.
(My de-haul video is now live!)
I got rid of a ton of books... The Aftermath of Reading Marie Kondo

Your point about watching the video for Make Your Bed instead of reading the book really sums up my general relationship with self help books--in that it doesn't exist because very few 200 page books are worth my time over watching a summed up 20 min video on the subject!
I will say, I did read the magic of tidying up back in 2015 and I would agree that this book is really good for a "big picture" thought on keeping your things tidy but the detailed habits are not realistic for me (or most people).
One "self help" book I am slightly interested in is Atomic Habits, but since it's also a podcast episode I'd probably rather consume it that way anyhow 😂

I did like Marie Kondo's method of folding. I read the book years ago and still do it. She has a show I think on Netflix where she helps other people with her method. Satisfying lol

I honestly read the Marie Kondo book through audible and that seemed more palatable. I want to recommend Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin, but I know I’m more biased to it because I listen to her podcast. But it’s still an interesting quick read. What genres are you looking forward to exploring this year? I’m definitely reading more classics and nonfiction 💙💙

Also The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin! The audiobook is read by the author and the book is great

LOLLL THE GUY HAD A MID LIFE CRISIS🤣
A psychology book that can read as a self help book is a liberated mind by dr Steven Hayes. I highly recommend it! Personally I’m not a fan of the “high vibrations” types of books like “you are a badass.” So If you’re similar i recommend this book about living according to your values via acceptance and commitment therapy… but instead of the therapy he gives you actionable steps to make small changes in your life.
