my uncle was in tanks the column he was in were blown up by german 88s he survived, he remembered the solid shot of the shell penetrating into the tank killing all the other crew members as it spun around the tank interior before destroying the tank he was severely wounded and left with a withered crippled arm for the rest of his life, he was recovered and captured by the germans who treated him well, the british declared him missing in action presumed killed as when a tank goes up there aint much left of human beings inside it; a german eventually managed to write to my grandmother telling her he was alive, my father and his brothers all fought in the front line and after the war one of their closest friends was an ex german pow who stayed on in britain; as common soldiers they had no time for others who never fought in war and who would think it a gloryish event

This is the difference between his generation and the generations of today. He doesn't complain, he doesn't feel like anyone owes him anything. He is happy for the support he gets but isn't letting this get in the way of his life. So many today would be expecting everyone else to do everything else for them. He is the only WW2 vet I've heard of with serious injuries and still alive and also appears to be in very good health as far as I can tell. Pretty awesome if you ask me! This guy is Legendary!
These were men from 16 to 20 year old going to the unknown leaving everything behind not knowing if they were going to survive or not in order to fight for their country these are true heros

Roy is the best of the best generation... The hospital and he talked about, Chapel Allerton hospital Is in Leeds And has been repairing broken Men since World War I and still does to this day....
This is a very good example of one thing people always seem to forget. Tanks always have several people in them. When I tank is "knocked out" it's not just that hunk of metal is down, oh well. That means that the people inside are most likely dead or seriously injured.

We have Veterans Affairs Canada who look after the needs of Canadian Forces Veterans with similar support as you mention regarding Blesma. I feel that with there support I have a better life than having to stumble through life on my own.
I am watching from Kingston, Jamaica. I feel a ptofound sense of gratitude to this man for the personsl sacrifices he has made so that we may enjoy the freedoms we do today. It is so good to see that he has been able to retain his sense of humour, despite all he has been through.

I am so happy to see this man doing so well. My dad lost a leg in Normandy from friendly fire and passed at 90 years of age. Another thing that both shared was that sense of humor about something that most see a tragedy.
