  • U.K. TV. Apr-23-60. Val Parnell's Spectacular Presents: "This Is Bobby Darin." Bobby Darin hosts the show, performs and serves as MC. In this particular number we see Bobby as Pop singer extraordinaire as he introduces his new single. He was an enormous talent who could truly make a song his own. If my math is correct he is 23 years old during this performance.

    Sung this (badly) to my daughter for the first few years of her life as she couldn't sleep, still sing it to her now (worse) at karaoke nights that we enjoy as a bonding experience, love Bobby

      BB64, Bobby Darin may have started as a wannabe but he blew all out of the water with his talent and I'm a massive Elvis and Dean fan. The Rat pak and Elvis used to sneak into Bobby's shows to watch him because they knew how talented he was. The only th9ng that stopped Bobby was his health. He truly was a one off.

    • @edwardal7980
      @edwardal7980 2 роки тому +3

      @@solomongrundy4905 Bobby Darin held the stage on his own - Sinatra, although a great singer, rarely performed numbers alone, he was constantly on stage alongside entertainers such as Dean, Sammy and Ella Fitzgerald. Bobby Darin consistently held a stage on his own, he outshone Sinatra in almost every aspect other than experience and recognition. Vocal talent, swing, showmanship and versatility - Sinatra could only sing jazz, pop and swing; Bobby did it all; Swing, big band, pop, country, rock, folk, jazz, blues. There’s a reason Sinatra was terrified of Bobby.

    • @edwardal7980
      @edwardal7980 2 роки тому +1

      @@solomongrundy4905 I have been a vocal coach for 12 years and also used to perform in many Jazz clubs up and down the country, of course Sinatra would’ve been more successful - he arrived in a time that singers were leaving the big band and the industry wasn’t as saturated as when Darin arrived. Darin was a jack of all trades, Sinatra was a master at 2 or 3, Sinatra just had the marketing down - hence why he’s more successful than Dean or Sammy, despite the fact that both were more talented than him, this goes for many singers, is Paul McCartney a better vocalist than Freddie Mercury was? No, yet he still achieved far more success, because he was new to the game and a breath of fresh air for young listeners, just as Sinatra was in the early 40s, or Elvis was in the mid 50s. The reason Sinatra is so much more revered is because he was the original - he took Bing Crosby’s style and suited it for the modern age, Darin managed to ride the wave of the 50s all the way to the top, then along comes the British Invasion and knocks all US singers off there high horses and Darin died before he could truly come back and sing the 70s

Thank you for all your posts .Cant get enough. Mindy ,my granddaughter’s favorites are” Clementine” 😂😂😂And “Mack the Knife”. . I have many CDs that have gotten me through some tough time’s,that I listened to while driving of Bobby’s ,but now it’s You Tube. Thank you., Jan. ♥️🎼🎶♥️🥰😎a PS. Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. we’re the first to say Bobby was the best. And Bobby and Elvis were good friends. Sammy. Said, that he’d never want to follow Bobby on stage ,he was so good. I’m now 83 yrs, and don’t think any of them should be compared. They were all Great in what they did. ,but Bobby did have an edge. On the rest…… L.o.l. 💕🎶💕😎

    So, so grateful to come across your clip of Bobby in London on April 23rd, 1960.... This one for me brings back wonderful memories as Bobby's music helped me come to terms with the grief and loss of my Daddy, I was only eight at the time.... He sang and moved with such soul from deep within himself, you only have to watch him to appreciate Bobby's awesome talents..... Bobby for me was this larger than life young charismatic sexy entertainer who gave freely from deep within his own heart and soul, which always made me feel special no matter from whence I came, everyone was the same in Bobby's eyes.... Bobby still remains for me the greatest entertainer of them all, he taught me many life's lessons which I still live by them today and I will be forever eternally grateful to this exceptionally multi-talented young man, Bobby Darin, you are still my big hero.... Thanks for everything Bobby, you rock my world still....

    Bobby does his wonderful little ""Two Step""in this video at 2:27/3:36..most of it hidden!! For those who saw Bobby 's performance on tape in the early days, he had this little 4 step really, that he would perform, particularly after Mack! I always loved it!! He dropped this some time later. It really was the inimitable Bobby!!

    Every so often, when one hears the death of a singer, one never forgets hearing that news. I well recall that December 1973 day, when Darins death was announced. A lot of great talents died that year.

      @Rafael Pinefa I don't know how much you know about him .Very interesting man was married to a beautiful young lady. Knew he was going to die young. WHO HE THOUGHT was his sister was actually his mother. In those days people would have thought an unwed young lady wouldn't fly. A much different time. FYI if you didn't know already.

    • @shyba2011
      @shyba2011 4 роки тому

      @Rafael Pinefa he had a heart condition. Knew he wasn't long for this world,and Sandra Dee was a babe.i never thought he was bitter he was trying to get a life time of work in a short time.my favorite is beyond the sea. My favourite singer is ELVIS never heard his name connected to Elvis. I don't know about that never read or heard about that before. No offence meant.

    • @shyba2011

      @Rafael Pinefa I don't remember that. Not saying your wrong just never heard that before. Like you said w/o your health life can be tough.B.T.W. YOU'RE RIGHT HE DIED IN 1973 at 37.i can remember his t.v. show.but I was young.If I remember correctly he always started the show with mack the knife.

      @Rafael Pinefa then you have the 27 club,Amy Winehouse,Janis Joplin,Jimmy Hendricks,James Dean, I think there all on that list. It's a shame someone like ELVIS has everything anyone could want yet it was not enough. M.j. ,whitney ,Prince I don't get it? I've got to get some sleep now after a rocky start lol it was a pleasure talking with you. Will have to do this again sometime.stay save,stay well.

    I was vacationing in the Outer Banks, NC last week and went to the local karaoke dive bar one night and sang this song. I believe I did it justice but to my dismay it has zero notoriety. The karaoke host said "I've heard of Mack the Knife but never Clementine!" When I went back to sit at the bar the guy next to me said "you need to sing something we know!"

    Nobody cooler, not even Sinatra (love him, he's an icon) and a musician's musician. Rock, pop, jazz, swing, country, could do it all. Alas, he left us so early- whom the gods love die young.
