i heard him say he would never write anything he didn't want people to hear, but just listening to the words, it's a pretty deep and powerful message. whether he wrote it or not, it's something anyone who has ever been in love can relate to. especially if the person they loved challenged them or accused them of NOT loving them. You don't know me If you did You would know if I loved you Part of it's trust And part of it's just being When you loved me Did you know How I lived my life for you i mean .... that's heavy. can you imagine what must have happened for those words to be said? I wouldn't find it easy to say them over and over for the entertainment of masses of strangers. it's a break up song. and he would know a few things about that.

Some sources say it was written by Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach, and Carole Bayer Sager, while others say it was only written by Bacharach and Bayer Sager. Other Neil Diamond B sides went years without being released on albums. "Broad Old Woman" was included in the "Play Me" 3-disc collection. "The Time Is Now" was Included in "The Bang Years: 1966-1968". Maybe we"ll eventually get this one on an album too.
the record should tell you who wrote it. all my little 45s list the writers. but maybe i'm just lucky lol (i dont have this one though, so i'm not THAT lucky)

Depending on what country and label it was released on, you'll see the composers as Cougle, Brevett or H. Seaton, L. Chambers or no composer at all. But the actual composer is Neil Diamond. Look for versions by Mike Berry, Priscilla Mitchell, or Sadina to see it correctly. (Priscilla Mitchell and Sadina are actually the same singer.)
