    I was looking for info on chickweed and found you. Thanks and I`m subbed. I have young chickweed growing amongst my peas and radish. I harvest it daily and am dehydrating it for winter. I just chuck it into my vegetables after sauteeing and with the heat turned off. It cooks with the residual heat.

    Our dog absolutely loves the stuff! He will jump up to get it out of your hand! We have it growing naturally in our yard and every time we take him out to toilet, he goes foraging the stuff.

    It's adorable when people say things "purify blood". Don't you just hate it when your blood is so disgusting that you need to purify it with something that already by definition isn't pure or doesn't purify anything except apparently blood.

      When you think about the chemicals in so many "food-like" substances people eat, the beverages loaded with syrupy trash, many people need to (sadly) purify!

    I have a garden bed that is perpetually filled with chickweed. I might as well use it rather than try to pull it out. I am curious though, is it better to use a tincture rather than just eat the fresh plant? I am not a fan of tinctures as I don't tolerate alcohol very well. I am particularly interested in its ability to aid weight loss, as I am currently trying to lose weight. Could I just eat a few sprigs every time I am outside?

    • @EdibleWildFood-1
      @EdibleWildFood-1  5 років тому +6

      If tinctured you could put a couple of drops into a glass of water once or twice a day and drink the water - - then you don't notice the alcohol that much. You could infuse the chickweed into organic apple cider vinegar...combined the two do very well in helping some people to lose weight!! That way you can use the vinegar on salads or take a shot glass of it a day (in water)!!

      @@EdibleWildFood-1 Thank you for the response! The apple cider vinegar might work! I am wondering though, is the medicinal action the same whether fresh or tinctured? I am asking because I have been putting chickweed in my salads, and I'm wondering if that's a good thing to do, or if it might be better to make a vinegar tincture and use that in a dressing.

      @@Laura_B__ Eating it fresh is good but it also means our body has to use calories to process it so that we get the plant benefits. This is perfectly ok! But a tincture (or vinegar) means those nutrients will be quickly absorbed into the body. Making tinctures/vinegars take time because active constituents must infuse properly. Six or more weeks must pass to give the alcohol (or vinegar) time to absorb all the active components of the herbs. Be sure to shake it occasionally.) Getting the plant both ways is good, but to capture those constituents allows you to have a "finished product" you can use long into the winter months! I hope this helps!
