Great video Jeff! It’s crazy how much we all can learn in 10 years. In 2010 I was eating a full bag of gummy bears post workout and waking up at 3am to down a protein shake so I didn’t lose my gains while I slept 😂
Your 2010 version is me now. 😭 Everything healthy on work out day, rest days "dieting? Calories? Protein? Who?" *Drinks 3 sodas, Doritos, and Tom's of chocolate, and pizza for dinner* next day: I need to eat salmon or chicken, some bananas, and nuts, OH FRUIT! A protein smoothie, a protein bar yes. YES.
Honestly I think a good takeaway from this is it proves as long as you work your butt off and be consistent you can get great results whether something is "optimal" or "wrong" or not. But much like you talked about without better knowledge and flexibility the likelihood of sticking to it long-term isn't likely for many.
Yeah because in all honestly , he looks the same , just the lighting is better in the 2020 pic and he obviously is in a greater body fat percentage compare to his 2010 pic, hence why he looks bigger

@@Zeno7741 yep I never heard of it before until I got it, went all red, itchy and had tingling sensations in my throat when I started eating it, swelled up a bit too, luckily I decided not to have it on break during work and waited until I was home, apparently it could be worse again the next time so probably wont chance it again

For me, a collagen shake is nice in the morning with some red fruits or half a grapefruit.The chicken and broccoli works well, as does steak and eggs with sweet potato. Tuna salad with avocado also great. Rotate to not get board. Good deserts are red fruits and natural yogurt. Banana, green apple or a small oatmeal cookie for a snack. Learning to cook healthy is also important, as is the time schedule and calories. A light intermittent fasting helps the cut, eg don't eat after 7pm-10am and only water, tea or black coffee on the fast.
As an exercise physiologist specializing in sports nutrition I would recommend dropping the Tilapia - it's a very dirty fish! Wild caught salmon would be a better choice. Also, macadamia nut oil is very good. Two to three tablespoons per day will do the body good. Olive oil can be added in as well for added health benefits. Great video!

Chia seeds, hemp hearts, and flax seeds are really good as far as fiber, omega fatty acids, protein, and several micro-nutrients. They are good in yogurt, salads, oatmeal.

Absolutely think that covering your old supplements guide would be worthwhile. This video was great because I can fix and tweak a few things in my "newbie" diet looking back at your old "mistakes". Informative as ever.
Note: Fasted cardio can be more useful if idolizing other compounds that promote lipid breakdown such as L-Carnitine(preferably injected 500mg a day) {no it is not steroids, it just has a horrible bio-availability while being an amino-acid that won't mess with your hormones}, also basic things such as caffeine. I've noticed that while idolizing more than 3 compounds to promote lipid breakdown while doing fasted cardio, or after a workout (when your glycogen storages are depleted). Needless to say, it can be more beneficial if done correctly.

8:11 Tilapia is a garbage fish, Salmon or Trout are the best choices. Tuna is ok if on a budget, but only tuna is a diet looking for constipation; add benefiber, psyllium husk fiber and ducalax if you do tuna and water for 3-7 days.

When I stopped breaking down my nutrition to such an exact science I began to lose fat. When I stopped analyzing my workouts to death I experienced greater gains. The information/science on nutrition, repetitions, volume, intensity and rest periods is always changing and there are too many different theories out there. Once I developed a good understanding of nutrition and fitness I just started working out and eating healthy without dissecting everything. If you aren't managing your stress levels then diet won't make the significant difference that it should. Cortisol is very real and trumps everything. Focus on getting stronger and being healthy, not on what you look like in the mirror. A true six pack of abs is very difficult to maintain if you are not somebody who makes their living off nutrition and exercise. Focus on lowering your blood pressure, resting heart rate, cholesterol and blood sugar. Strive to burn fat as opposed to losing weight. Good videos, I just personally take them with a grain of salt since I can get caught up in overthinking things. But that's just me and my neurosis. LOL

When I was in high school 10 years ago I used to think (like a lot of others then) that carbs were the enemy so my lunches consisted every day of a can of tuna on baby spinach, but then I would slam a litre of 2% milk totally ignoring the fact that all that lactose in the milk was also a carb source, but hey I was pretty lean. I was also not very muscular because I believed that getting shredded and gaining muscle were all a package deal and by the end of grade 12 I looked like a string bean. That was all solved when I went to uni though, and gained the ‘freshman 5’ (more like 30 in my case) eating all that cafeteria ‘food.’ Since then I’ve graduated, found all the fitness-glory of UA-cam, and spent the past 3 years training consistently, feeling and looking better than I ever have. It can be a struggle, but looking back always helps to remind us of how well we’re doing now. Thanks for sharing this one Jeff.
One tip: fatty fish, especially farmed salmon really ain't that healthy, just lots of heavy metals and other contamination, especially loads of preservatives from the food pellets, while in lean fish you have only really microplastic as somethin' you don't really want (not proven it does anythin' but it passes the blood/brain barrier so I would be careful). I'd rather go for some eggs, maybe mixed with some relatively high protein plants, so let's say some whole grain noodles, broccoli/peas/whatever and then 2-3 eggs over it at the end so they're not cooked too much
My first prep in 2011 consisted of a lot of tilapia and legit haven’t been able to eat that since 😂 ... the evolution of natural bodybuilders taking a more evidence based, flexible approach is pretty wild to think about!
One mistake - you said you need to increase deficit as metabolism adapts. Some might understand it as metabolism adaptations make you stop losing weight in a calorie deficit. You mean to adjust calorie input/output to get back into deficit, as metabolism adapts.

Just pick out like 10 foods or so that you like that are also healthy. Then for each one write out the Calories, Proteins, Carbs, and Fats in 50g (You can use Calorieking.com to get the info, there are a ton of sights though). After that figure out the amount of calories you want in a day according to your goals and activity level. If you wanna cut you wanna go low, like around 2000. Then just take those 50g measurements and add them up until you get to 2000, making protein and fat sources the bulk of your daily intake. Carbs will just be there. If you have high activity adding more carbs in there can be helpful.

you can train for many years without nothing more than a few months of newbie gains if your nutrition is shit. ive seen it with so many people over the years. people who train 5 times a week still looking like they have just started training after 6 solid years of working out

Tip on eating most nuts and seeds: dry roast them. It makes most of them much easily digestible. Obviously don't burn them. We spoke and roast most of the foods like this.
Hey Jeff, Jon here from NC I'm just starting to begin dieting specifically to lose fat and then begin intense muscle training and feel like I'm doing well with my meals, but I was wondering do you have any resources, books, videos, etc. on the bare bones basics? Like what are macros, charts and diagrams on intake? Etc. I know you get alot of comments and may not see this but if you do a response would be greatly appreciated!

Tbf, that cut result in 2010 is very impressive! Excellent muscles separation compared to now and much less "fat" overall. A few touch ups to the diet but I like to go shorter time periods and extreme for my cuts so my body doesn't have the time to reduce in strength and power. When I carb and calorie up again I'm far stronger then pre-cut doing this as my body can't wait to use the energy efficiently.

That was all solved when I went to uni though, and gained the ‘freshman 5’ (more like 30 in my case) eating all that cafeteria ‘food.’ Since then I’ve graduated, found all the fitness-glory of UA-cam, and spent the past 3 years training consistently, feeling and looking better than I ever have. It can be a struggle, but looking back always helps to remind us of how well we’re doing now. Thanks for sharing this one Jeff.

Shud ask the person who sat next to him at the lectures. All that fiber and protein would set off a perfect storm
One tip: fatty fish, especially farmed salmon really ain't that healthy, just lots of heavy metals and other contamination, especially loads of preservatives from the food pellets, while in lean fish you have only really microplastic as somethin' you don't really want (not proven it does anythin' but it passes the blood/brain barrier so I would be careful). I'd rather go for some eggs, maybe mixed with some relatively high protein plants, so let's say some whole grain noodles, broccoli/peas/whatever and then 2-3 eggs over it at the end so they're not cooked too much

One mistake - you said you need to increase deficit as metabolism adapts. Some might understand it as metabolism adaptations make you stop losing weight in a calorie deficit. You mean to adjust calorie input/output to get back into deficit, as metabolism adapts.

I really wish I could get my meals under control... 34 years old and have no idea what I'm doing but videos like these do help.
Just pick out like 10 foods or so that you like that are also healthy. Then for each one write out the Calories, Proteins, Carbs, and Fats in 50g (You can use Calorieking.com to get the info, there are a ton of sights though). After that figure out the amount of calories you want in a day according to your goals and activity level. If you wanna cut you wanna go low, like around 2000. Then just take those 50g measurements and add them up until you get to 2000, making protein and fat sources the bulk of your daily intake. Carbs will just be there. If you have high activity adding more carbs in there can be helpful.

you can train for many years without nothing more than a few months of newbie gains if your nutrition is shit. ive seen it with so many people over the years. people who train 5 times a week still looking like they have just started training after 6 solid years of working out

They also don’t focus on progressive overload. They just go, do some fancy workouts with a predetermined amount of reps and call it a day.
Lots of people undereat and dont sleep good. And they dont train hard.

Tip on eating most nuts and seeds: dry roast them. It makes most of them much easily digestible. Obviously don't burn them. We spoke and roast most of the foods like this.
Hey Jeff, Jon here from NC I'm just starting to begin dieting specifically to lose fat and then begin intense muscle training and feel like I'm doing well with my meals, but I was wondering do you have any resources, books, videos, etc. on the bare bones basics? Like what are macros, charts and diagrams on intake? Etc. I know you get alot of comments and may not see this but if you do a response would be greatly appreciated!

Excellent muscles separation compared to now and much less "fat" overall.
A few touch ups to the diet but I like to go shorter time periods and extreme for my cuts so my body doesn't have the time to reduce in strength and power. When I carb and calorie up again I'm far stronger then pre-cut doing this as my body can't wait to use the energy efficiently.
