Just got one last week and took it out for an overnighter. Upon inspection after I got it I found it to be excellent as far as the workmanship. It was easy to set up but it was a pain to stuff back in the bag, because of the coating in the bag. I had another stuff bag so I put it in it. I found the pockets on the corners to be just fine to put the tie out strings back in, if you rap the string around the thumb and little finger technic. Very happy with it so far after just one hang. Looking forward to do a lot more of hanging out with it.

I just picked up this tarp for my Hennessy Scout Zip that I’ve been hiking with since I was still in scouting and it’s awesome! I have it set up in he back yard today, but I can’t wait to get out on a trail with it.

It is a great tarp. I got mine as a free up grade with the snake skins. Just added a ridge line and some prusik knots and done. Just went through a night and day of thunder storms and wind with driving to light rain. Not a drop entered my hammock. Good review by the way. Thanks

I loved mine so much that I just bought another one for 20 dollars less. I got one and was in some really bad weather with it about 4 years ago. I got some tears in it. It was all my fault because my stakes weren't in good enough. I was away from it while the wind was very strong. I still have it with patches. The ripstop material worked perfectly.

After watching your video, I just used some of my dividends from REI and ordered it to go with my first hammock that I just picked up used. Thanks

I agree with you as far as ruggedness trumps light weight. In a true survival situation, I'll take durability over shaving a few ounces.
Some might say you can go with Cuben fiber, but with a tiny Cuben fiber tarp, you simply don't have enough coverage for a true survival situation when things really get hairy. I much prefer having plenty of coverage, as well as durability. That's why I chose an Aqua Quest Defender tarp. The 70D Poly fabric of your Hennessy Hex Fly 70D Hammock Tarp should be durable, while still giving you plenty of coverage.
You don't have to spend $300 on a puny Cuben fiber tarp sacrificing coverage for durability. I'd say you're on the right track here. I spent far less than one would spend on a puny Ceben $300 to $400 Cuben fiber tarp on my 13' x 10' Aqua Quest Defender tarp. It provides enough coverage to actually cover my hammock and still allow me to close both ends if things really get hairy. I did spend $99 on my Aqua Quest, but that's still far less than spending hundreds of dollars on a puny tarp. Your Hennessy Hex Fly 70D Hammock Tarp is a great choice which should provide you with years of service.
Great video. I really enjoyed it.

Good straight forward tarp/ fly review! I was on the edge between the Hex Fly and the Eno Pro Fly... After watching I made an order with Amazon for the Hennessy! :) Looking forward to years of use and sharing some trail time with my daughter!

Hi bud, thanks for sharing. Would you please elaborate on how the far tie out point prevents condensation/evaporation? Also (and as it's UA-cam I should say I'm not arguing or disagreeing any other way but a debate for knowledge), I'm not sure about your theory on lightweight materials being bad for wind, I'd think the issue is a lack of tie out pounts-silnylon (I think that's what this is) sags with moisture and wind was already giving this a light waft. With mine, depending on the orientation, I pull the sides out with a stick over the top pulling the sides out for space and taughtness, the very same principal of a tent. I. Other orientations I'd do the same but pulling it out to the ground but further out. What do you say about all that? Perhaps I'd need you to elaborate on your view to understand better I'm not sure. Oh, and I've made some self tensioning guy lines really easily with linelocs, very cheap and very easy to adjust even within the tarp. As silnylon stretches/sags when wet, the elastic on the guy line compensates. The guy line has full length anyway, should the elastic break. I'd say the best infographic is from the ultimate hang. I'm interested what you think of all this...and if you could send a photo of the guy picket I'd be very grateful please, I'm struggling to find one on the net

Warbonnet outdoors has great hammocks especially the blackbird. They also have nice tarps too. Its an option. Tho theirs is made of silnylon and more lightweight. Check out warbonnet superfly tarp it comes with built in doors

Never skimp on the tarps, this is a great one, you should check out the snake skins for the fly.

Awesome video! I have been looking at this tarp on MEC hear in Canada.. My question is would this work in conjunction with the Snugpak jungle hammock( With mosquito netting attached)? Thanks in advance

Hi Benzy, have you spent a night out in high winds ? , i seem to cop high winds when i wander the snowy mountains ,and a multi tied tarp still wips and buffets in the wind , i noticed on my new hex fly that it only has cnr tie outs ,

With the opened ends, how does a larger tarp/fly really protect you from elements any better than the fly that they include with the hammock? I own a Hennessy Explorer model, and considering the Monsoon or Typhoon fly. IMHO....close the ends of your hammock for any real protection from anything.

What are your typical knots for adjusting/sliding the tarp lengthwise? I use prusiks on a ridgeline, but would love to lose the ridgeline if it's easy enough with the included ties.

after 2 years, how's your experience? any issues with the D-ring? I'm in the market to replace my tarp now. Appreciate your response.

Without compromising your privacy, can you give us a general idea of what geographic area you're testing this equipment in (ie, eastern woodlands, mid-atlantic, midwest, pacific northwest, etc)? I'm curious as to the temperature range and general weather and environment you're exposing the gear to.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Northeast is general enough, I guess. lol..Live free or die in the Green Mountains of Vacationland? Or take Nutmeg from the Ocean state by the Bay through the Empire to Penns woods?

I just ordered my second hammock with 96 inch straps(expedition aysm classic) .. My first one burned in a house fire.
Well the 70D asym hex fly is free with order for limited time, as well as free snake skins and free H2O collectors. Also free upgrade of choice on tree straps(i choose 96 inch due to versatility). Also free shipping (when I bought my first one shipping was almost 50 bucks)
Main reason I'm here is I was actually looking for setup videos for the hex fly (integrated with hammock and as an external asset( hammock already has a standard fly).
Over good video. Let me know if you have others on setup. Off to work. L8rs
