      I’m definitely not… I can get by but it’s going to take me 10 times longer than a handyman 😂. I am lucky though, my best friend is great with tools and he lives directly across the street from me!
      Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

    Oh I wish I could do that. I use a large dog crate covered up with tarp, except the front. It's working fine. Originally I had bought a brand new doghouse that I transformed but they were in it only a month before out growing it. I don't have any one to help me so it's the best I could do. Even if I could find one, no one has a truck or the manpower to get one. But maybe one day...

      If I lived close enough, I would help you! I’m just happy you’re doing what you can with what you have!

      @@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Thanks. I was going to do it back in 2020 with everything happening but not having any help stopped me but I was determined to do it no matter what and it's working. I have the stacked nesting boxes on the outside like you do except in the run and I can access the eggs without going inside the run unless necessary. I'm grateful for your encouragement.

      @iwanttobelieve5970 well I’m just happy you were able to get chickens again and are doing it in a way that is working for you!

    I bought a 6ft by 4ft sale ex display garden shed for under £400, i added 2 wall mounted plastic Cozynest nest boxes for £20 and made my own roosting bars with treated wood for around £8. The equivalent size coop brand new was over £1000 and nowhere near as sturdy. Ive added a 16ft by 5ft by 6.5ft high pen as we cant free range either. My only recommendation to yours is much smaller guage wire on the pen…mine is 1cm steel guage so no predators or rats can get in

      They are so much cheaper!
      We are going to re do the run soon and that’s definitely the plan. So far we have been fine because the coop door closes them inside at night, but better safe than sorry. Definitely an upgrade that’s already in the works!

    How much sunlight (not shaded) area would you suggest? I plan on putting chickens in underneath grape vines that are 10 ft high (birds and bees eat all the grapes before they ripen) 20ft long and 10 ft wide so it is very shaded all spring-fall

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  Рік тому

      Shade is going to be better than full sun! That shade will keep them cool on hot days! Before one of our trees died ours were in shade Almost all day

    We bought the same shed, live in Michigan, high for today 37°, for some reason ours in sweating so bad it's dripping off the ceiling. 🤷. I wouldn't have thought it'd need more ventilation yet. What type of flooring do you have?

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  8 місяців тому +1

      We have the plastic flooring that came with it! We don’t have any sweating but we also added ventilation!

      Same here. I clipped my beautiful pollinators (I grew inside the garden), air dried them to seed save for next year. It was a beautiful sight. Now, salvaging the remainder for chicken food & compost. Been doing this for 8 years now. Still learning & improving. Best retirement plan ever. You have the perfect personality for these videos, very calming and informative. Already shared to my husband for his honey "we should do this" list.
