One of the most violent moments in human history, and yet still had a moment of peace and humanity such as this christmas truce. In the broad daylight, for a day, there was no war in no man's land.
And yet, the next day they went back to killing each other. I've always wondered how that felt - one day you are being a young man, playing and getting a rest, the next you are back to shooting and stabbing the guys you just had a few friendly hours with.
@@andrewreynolds912 yeah unfortunately the military elite don't like soldiers talking to the enemy and realizing they have more in common with the enemy than the people telling them to shoot the enemy. After this in 1915 the British command ordered long range bombardment of the German line to make this kind of thing impossible. And the Germans threatened anyone who tried this with treason. There are reports of the Germans and French doing truces after this. And there are many reports of Germans offering impromptu truces to the British. But British upper command seemed to have the shortest leash on their field commanders and threatened anyone who let that happen with court marshalling, so the British refused truces till the end of the war. This also was only possible due to the stagnant and "live and let live" attitude of trench warfare. Basically there was no reason to shoot at the other guy unless he was actively trying to cross no man's land to take your trench. No war since has has the dominant strategy been watching your enemy without bothering to shoot at them for months at a time. So we don't get this lack of animosity between soldiers anymore.
You nailed this scene, buddy. The soft somber, O Holy Night in the background. Knowing the absolute hell these poor young men went thru in WW1.. The phenomenal movie on Netflix, "All Quite on the Western Front," truly nailed the brutality and brotherhood all in one. Knowing that this actually happened in "No Mans Land" shows the humanity within these brave warriors who only wanted to do the right thing for their country. God bless all of our military
I'm from Ieper (Ypres) and it's so cool to see an American hobbyist making something involving the First World War. Living here, sometimes you get overexdposed to rememberance, but to me this piece is a cool new way to give this historic event some 'exposure' (by lack of a better term). Currently I'm making pixelart for what will be a game about the history of our region (not just WW1, but it 'll be part of it). In a certain way, this project feels relatable!
My grandfather fought on this front. He was only 16, he’d lied about his age to sign up. What’s rarely talked about is that for some areas of the trenches there was no ceasefire, my grandfathers trench was one of those. In some accounts from soldiers in the ceasefire trenches they mention that while they met in the middle, shared chocolate and sang hymns they could still hear distant gunfire and shelling. A truly confusing hellscape that few of us can really comprehend. Tastefully done work my friend.
🎶 Silence, oh I remember the silence on a cold winter day. After many months in the battlefield. We were so used to the violence. Then all the cannons went silent as the snow fell Voices sang to me from no man's land.
And today we’re all brothers Tonight we’re all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we’re all brothers We drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white Hear carols from the trenches, we sing O holy night Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
Madness. Oh, I remember the sadness. We were hiding our tears. In a foreign land where we faced our fears. We were soldiers. Carried the war on our shoulders. For our nations. Is that why we burry our friends?
And today we're all brothers, tonight we're all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we're all brothers, we drink and unite New Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
God bless the real men who showed the world that even during one of the greatest conflicts in human history there could still be peace. Merry Christmas!
Would highly recommend listening to the actor Peter Capaldi read the letter of Captain Reginald John Armes to his wife which gives an account of his perspective of the Christmas Truce. Merry Christmas Boylei 🎄
Did not expect that The Great War mention, I see you are a man of culture as well. If you didn´t know already, Timeghost, the main fellas behind the week by week coverage, actually recently finished doing the same thing with the entirety of WW2 as well and are currently doing The Korean War and are in the process of doing like, 10 other similar projects, it´s seriously incredible what they´re doing, I highly suggest checking that out as well. Also a great diorama of course, I´d love to see more historical stuff like this from you.
From what I recall; unfortunately upper brass on both sides made sure that this wouldn’t happen again through orders of artillery fire on and around Dec 25th. Also, the mutual distain, that only the horrors of war brought, stopped this scene of humanity from happening again. A beautiful diorama. Wish you and your family the best!
Wait, the people who were farthest from the fighting were *angry* that their troops had a mutual ceasefire on a holiday about peace, joy, and humanity? Shame on them.
Sabaton probably has the best representation of the Christmas Truce in the music video for their song 'Christmas Truce'. They also went into detail about the even during an episode of Sabaton History, where they mentioned that units on both sides had to be rotated out because they refused to fight afterwards. Both sides ramped up artillery strikes every year during Christmas to prevent it from happening again.
I only just learned about the artillery orders during Christmas from a previous comment. This sickens me, that the men farthest from the battlefields were annoyed and even *angry* that their troops had a ceasefire for a single moment to celebrate a holiday about pease, camaraderie, and humanity. Repulses me to my core.
@Springtrap11556 and to further add to the grotesque nature of it all, this was TRENCH warfare - arguably one of the most miserable wartime strategies ever devised. The Christmas truce was the only bright spot these people have seen or would see in a very long time. You’d be hard pressed to find men more crushed and hopeless in all human history than those who lived in those trenches day and night. There’s your tale as old as time: the old men who start wars and the young men who die in them.
Scenes like this always bring this to my mind.... When the Baron cried out "Merry Christmas, my friend!" ♥Thank you. Merry Christmas, Boylei and family! ♥
Fantastic diorama of an awesome moment in time. Never forget, Tolkien was heavily influenced by his time in France during World War I. He served as a British Army Officer.
I actually got a little emotional watching this (between the laughs). I love the fact that you brought hope and peace into this build so close to Christmas. Thanks for a great year man 🙏
That’s a superb idea to immortalise one of the rare magical moments in this horrible war! Thanks for mesmerizing us with all the incredibly beautiful builds you make all year long!
The christmas peace is something I like to remember. Always something that shows me that even in the worst time ever, people can find some peace and celebrate things together.
My wife and I watch your channel nearly every week and enjoy it a great deal. This week, however, your choice of subject and message stood out above everything you've done to date. God bless you, and Merry Christmas!
I’ve been watching your video’s almost from the start of your channel. And you’ve inspired me to make a diorama of my own. I teach history and made my own little diorama of roman soldiers after watching your video’s. And I use it introduce the Romans as a subject. A historical build about my favorite historical subject. Clearly one of favorite video’s.
This is one of my favorite videos. I have always enjoyed soccer, history and crafting things however nothing brings me more joy than knowing Jesus. Keep up the good work! 10:00
As someone who studies warfare i love this part of history it shows no matter how ba'd humanity can get we can become our best in such the wo'rst con'flict it shows humanity is within our hearts no matter how bad something is their is always a place to find humanity
Your latest diorama was awesome they not only played football they also exchanged gifts and sung Christmas carols lest we forget . Merry Christmas boylie hobby time can’t wait too see what you bring us next year 🎅🎅🎅
O Holy Night is one of my favourite Christmas hymna, and so hauntingly beatiful set as the backdrop of your scene! And your open offer to tell people about Christ this Christmas- amazing
Never knew what was slightly different about this channel. The calming tone, or something else. The fact that you are willing to talk about your faith in a public setting is very reassuring to see.
I love this diorama and everything it encapsulates about the true spirit of Christmas, my friend. Also, I appreciate your testimony and willingness to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas, Boylei to you a d your family.
An emotional ending. I have heard of this story. I wish they would cherish the memories of that day and refuse to fight each other the very next day... If only we could do this once.... Anyway, thank you for the result, and for your soothing voice which calms my soul. I would love to talk about Christ, but in a more spiritual way as i do not believe in gospels, so hence why i won't send an email. However this is very wholesome of you, trying to help people in spiritual need. May you be blessed forever. Cheers.
Man, you do a great job filming and putting this together. Appreciate all the hard work in your production value. I find these videos pretty relaxing to watch
Always appreciate your Christmas-themed works, and this is certainly one of those moments in history we should never forget. Well done and, as always, Merry Christmas!
My great grandfather on my mother’s side came back from World War One. And my great grandmother said he was never ever the same afterwards. He used to scream in his sleep. I can only remember him very vividly. But he always loved us and gave lots of cuddles. You’re right it’s odd what started it. It’s odd what starts wars. Love from Osaka . Ps my mother is English
Merry Christmas Boylei, always amazing to see your work, especially depicting amazing stories like this one. May God fill you and your family with joy this Christmas.
Great work and awesome event in history. I (am german and) got this old book from the 1940s (I believe) which is a collection of letters written by fallen Soldiers in WW1. All these Soldiers were University students for whatever reason. And one part is from a soldier who was there and wrote about this Christmas of peace at the frontline. So I read this before media caught up on this event and we all came to hear about this and it deeply moved me as my younger self. And the book, by the way, is awesome (and tragic, because you know the date these soldiers died and often can read until the day of their demise) and gives you such an unique insight into the war.
Great video, this is one of my favourites, love the emotional stirings from this piece. Keep up the great work and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Your work is superb. There are few things as beautiful as a person using the gifts that God has given them to bring joy to others. God Bless you and your family, and may your Christmas be one of peace and joy.
That my friend is a beautiful sentiment of peace joy and trust. Even with a truce how does the average man go from taking aim and killing the enemy, to befriending them and playing a friendly game of soccer with them, and then back to trying to kill one another on another day or two after that. It's just so unbelievable and hard to comprehend. This is truly a beautiful piece of peace in history that you created, AMAZING MY FRIEND. Soldiers don't get enough credit for what they do, have to deal with and go through during wartime. And made such a beautiful touching piece of history, it's sad that wars have to be fought with guns and bombs and not settled with soccer balls and footballs. This is such a heart felt piece to me that it truly brings a tear to my eye 😢 and a warmness to my heart ❤. To me this is one of the most amazing and beautiful pieces you have made to date. I love all the creations you come up with but when you do something like this, it's truly special. 😢❤🙂👍👍👍
Honestly probably one of the best one you've made so far not necessarily because it looks the best but just a great idea and it's very well done keep it going
Great job, looks terrific, and recycling is good that foam is expensive now, it's crazy. Can't wait for next vid, thank you for always showing us your models, Merry Christmas and happy new year 🎉
9:55 Just when I thought I couldn't love your channel anymore you give me more reasons to! Awesome job, glad to see others standing by and being willing to talk about their faith.
Wow. I love following your usual projects, but this is just beautiful. This diorama wouldn’t look out of place in a museum, and in fact I think it would be quite a beloved display. Well done dude 👏 and Merry Christmas to you 🎄
One of the most violent moments in human history, and yet still had a moment of peace and humanity such as this christmas truce. In the broad daylight, for a day, there was no war in no man's land.
If it where to happen again it would be something
Unless you were some of the french who didn't stop fighting because the Germans were invading your homeland.
Very poignant.
Merry Christmas! ❤
And yet, the next day they went back to killing each other. I've always wondered how that felt - one day you are being a young man, playing and getting a rest, the next you are back to shooting and stabbing the guys you just had a few friendly hours with.

Its enough to make a grown man cry. Well done Boylei.
I agree
My thoughts exactly
Playing subtle versions of “In the Bleak Midwinter”, “Silent Night”, and other hymns and carols as background was a nice touch.

A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
Madness.
Oh, I remember the sadness.
We were hiding our tears.
In a foreign land where we faced our fears.
We were soldiers.
Carried the war on our shoulders.
For our nations.
Is that why we burry our friends?
We were all
We were all
We were all

8:17 “Tigers won’t be common in Europe for another 20 years” 😂
😂😢
Little did they know that racoons would spread through Europe in the second half of the 20th century!
At first I didn’t get it. Took me a minute😂
Mice were!

One of my favourites you've ever done. Didn't think a model diorama would get me feeling emotional, but here we are!
My feelings exactly. This is an amazing build and story.
Merry Christmas to you all, from the UK. Have a great holiday season, whatever you celebrate, and see you all in the New Year.
Merry Christmas to you all from the US as well. Many blessings to you all and have a happy new year.
Merry Christmas to yall too.
Merry Christmas from the planet Zarbonk.

One of my favorite Christmas songs is “Christmas 1915”. A very powerful moment in history! Thank you!
I normally hate this time of year for the crass commercialism but this has restored just a tiny bit of faith in humanity (at least for today)
If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend! Joyeux Noel
This has always been one of my favorite historical stories of all time. Such a beautiful idea to immortalize with a diorama
Beautiful diorama. This one is a personal favorite because it is such an inspiring moment of human compassion in such a horrible conflict.
Congrats on 1 Million!! You deserve it! Both for your work and your faith.
This has long been one of the most touching moments of history to me. I believe you did it justice, sir.
Such a powerful message about the resilience of the human spirit and such a great build to capture its essence. Amazing work. ❤
Your latest diorama was awesome they not only played football they also exchanged gifts and sung Christmas carols lest we forget . Merry Christmas boylie hobby time can’t wait too see what you bring us next year 🎅🎅🎅
What a beautiful subject this truce of 1914 is...And once again what talent and what inspiration, bravo and thank you! 😍😍👍👍
A beautiful depiction of one of the most moving moments in history.
AMAZING capture of one of the most horrific and the same time one of most peacefull and historic day! Well done!
God bless you boylei! I watches your vids before i got into plane modelling, but i think you definitely played as inspiration for my new hobby
One of my favourite you have created. Captures so much emotion from this moment in history
This is beautifully done, Boylei. Another great diorama depicting a touching moment in world history.
This is actually beautiful. Well done my friend.
As a British citizen who lives in Germany now I found watching this very sentimental
Merry Christmas to all
O Holy Night is one of my favourite Christmas hymna, and so hauntingly beatiful set as the backdrop of your scene! And your open offer to tell people about Christ this Christmas- amazing
I know a similar truce happened during the American civil war. What’s neat diorama to commemorate the peace that we all one day hopefully fully know.
Sabaton did a song on the Christmas Truce. It was beautiful
Today we’re all brothers, tonight we’re all friends
A moment of please in a war that never ends
This is one of my favorites of your builds. Such a special moment to be commemorated.
Fröhe Weihnachten! Merry Christmas. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy Holidays to you and all your followers!! Many blessings for the New Year 🙏
The fact that this was done with 1:72 scale makes this even more impressive. the sheer dedication to details is very nice
Cheers.
Thank you again for your quiet, humble and courageous dedication to the Faith. God bless you
A great build based on a great human moment. Keep it up; my whole family loves watching these projects come together. Christ is King!
I had the idea of building this exact diorama but didn't have time for it an then boylei comes over and does it for me... Incredible
Man, you do a great job filming and putting this together. Appreciate all the hard work in your production value. I find these videos pretty relaxing to watch
Merry Christmas Boylei. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas Boylei. Thank you for always representing the Lord In your videos. It’s a great encouragement to fellow believers.
The national WW1 Museum in Kansas City commemorates this event with a soccer tournament on their grounds. Beautiful work and storytelling, thank you!
Always appreciate your Christmas-themed works, and this is certainly one of those moments in history we should never forget. Well done and, as always, Merry Christmas!
Nice job on the "disarm" conversions!
May the soldiers of the past finally find pease in their rest, and may the soldiers of the future have no need to find pease in their rest.
Merry Christmas Boylei, always amazing to see your work, especially depicting amazing stories like this one. May God fill you and your family with joy this Christmas.

The Christmas truce has always been my favorite Christmas story
Such an iconic moment in history. Inspiring me to make a historic diorama of my own
I love these ! And they all need to learn that Christmas is about friendship beyond polarity!
That my friend is a beautiful sentiment of peace joy and trust. Oh, Franz, that jokester! (-:
This was lovely! Thank you for making this lovely diorama.
The representation here is unmatched! I would pay serious money for this
Thank you for your videos. They are so relaxing and fun to watch.
Honestly probably one of the best one you've made so far not necessarily because it looks the best but just a great idea and it's very well done keep it going
Great job, looks terrific, and recycling is good that foam is expensive now, it's crazy. Can't wait for next vid, thank you for always showing us your models, Merry Christmas and happy new year 🎉
Christmas in the Trenches is one of my absolute favorite moments in all of history.
I love this story.
you have inspired me so much all these years man, thank you and keep up the good work!
Always enjoyed your Christmas projects. Double points for your offer to spread the Gospel.
First, also hyped for the video. Didn‘t think there would be one this year anymore.
Merry Christmas, Boylei! This is another phenomenal build.
Thank you for this episode, one of my favourite stories from history, brought to life. Merry Christmas.
9:55 Just when I thought I couldn't love your channel anymore you give me more reasons to! Awesome job, glad to see others standing by and being willing to talk about their faith.
Nice match-cut transitions!
And thank you for your willingness to share the good news! The interweb needs more like you.
8:11, good one, also excellent work, Merry Christmas and God bless!
Thank you for sharing your talents with us! My kids and I love your content! Merry Christmas and may God bless you and your family.
Gorgeous. Humble. Thought provoking. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Wow. I love following your usual projects, but this is just beautiful. This diorama wouldn’t look out of place in a museum, and in fact I think it would be quite a beloved display. Well done dude 👏 and Merry Christmas to you 🎄
There's a Doctor Who Christmas special that touches on this moment. Love how this turned out!
Great job on that diorama, always look forward to a new video. Happy Christmas!⛄🎁
Thank you for sharing the Good News! Blessings to you and yours this Christmas.
Great video and outstanding build.
I like the detail you do when doing your models and your imagination to make things work is great...
A Really Nice Touch In Memory of the Fallen in WWI....Happy Christmas to you and all your Family.
Definitely my personal fave so far
