Amy Lee is something truly special as a singer. She has such great tone, resonance, and just a little of that southern twang. Such a wonderful and emotion evoking combo.
Evanescence did an album (called Synthesis) that was mostly stripped-down/orchestral arrangements of some of their songs, and this was one of them. So maybe Amy was playing that arrangement or something closer to it, especially if it was around the middle of the set. I could see this song being the penultimate one in a setlist, if not the last one. And yeah, it could've gone another two measures at the end. It is definitely catchy; even the pre-chorus tends to get stuck in my head. That said, I'd probably score it as a low 8. Looking back at the poll, hindsight is 20/20. I actually could've voted for this song because a couple of weeks later I prioritized the song I did vote for. 😄
I wish they did a MV for this song. This is one of my favorite from that album. I especially love the way she sang this song in the way that she didn't just repeat the chorus in the same way. The way most chorus usually did.
Saw them last year during their europe leg of the tour with within temptation. Days before Amy was ill and barely recovered but gave all she could. The live version of this song is even better than the version on the album. Even the complete visuals during the live performance were so great.
They released the song in 2011, back then Amy said she would never been able to do it live due to being so demaning on vocals with no room to breath in ton of consecutive long high notes, years later in 2017 they re-imagined the song stripping it down, the song starts with a synth sound and acapella like vocals until the chorus when the full orchestra comes in... when they camback for 2021 shows, they decided to mix both studio version and live Synthesis version... so they start this song with the synth and vocals only, Amy does that until the first chorus sang with only strings, and then instead of the whole orchestra coming in, the band comes in to start the second verse with the hard rock version you just reacted.... I'd suggest to please do a reaction video of the live version, there are couple HD proshot live footage of the song out since they have been touring it the past 2 years.... They don't do it full electric with the band, they do it half Synthesis like version and half Band version, PLUS they add a KILLER solo in the live 2021-present version.
In the last couple of shows I saw online, it was the opener lmao... so you are on point with that, and it is a great live song. Intro to the live version is stripped down.
Currently they perform this song as a mixture between its self titled’s LP version and it’s synthesis’s version. As someone who has watched them perform it live I must say that nobody can’t say Amy can’t sing. She’s stunning

I suppose in certain ways Evanescence became the mainstream face of Goth style rock. I find their songs pretty solid overall. And I think most people can recognize that Amy Lee is blessed with a very distinctive singing voice. I even once read an interview with KMFDM where they were asked to listen to and rate a number of different songs. One of which was by Evanescence. They actually didn’t like whatever song it was, but they admitted she has a great voice.
