  • IT'S NEW SNARE DAY! I'm pysched to add this Yamaha Recording Custom Brass 14 x 6.5" snare drum to my collection. I've been using it with Toska recently and it's got some serious body and projection.
    What do you think?
    Thanks to the FroBro Rabea Massaad for filming and mixing this one! Check out his channel for insane guitar videos here: / @rabeamassaad

    I love this drum. Just got one this week and it is amazing! And that is why I also ordered the 13x6.5 Brass shortly afterwards. YAMAHA Drums rule! 🥁💪🏻😎

    This thing is just a beast of a snare! Sounds awesome and can't wait for the Toska playthroughs :D

    This tuning combined with the moongel makes that snare sound basicly like any other high quality snare drum.. a bit higher tuning w/o moongel would have been a better demo imo.. nice playing tho

      Hey man thanks for watching I guess everyone likes their tuning a bit different, but I like to keep more body in my snare where possible

      You did mention different heads - definitely add a G14 to that list for lovely pingy overtones!

    Awesome video of a awesome snare, sounding great. Being as the Toska album and tour is coming up could you do a video on the journey of your band and any tips for drummers starting a band or looking to meet people and start one. Also forgot to add what’s your current head setup on your toms as they sound great. Cheers

    @Ben Minal love I'm glad you got that snare. I've been looking for one like this but i think this is definetly my next snare. I just love these kinds of gear reviews and I can't wait for the next one. Love your youtube and please do more Q and a. All the best, greetings from a fellow drummer from Sweden✌:-)

    Sounds really good! I dunno why, but I always have my brass snare cranked really high for that almost gospel sound. You've got me thinking I might take it down now.

    I see why you like it, matches you kit perfectly in snare and tom modes! Hit the hell out of it, still fits the kit.

    Remo coated emperor over snare side hazy ambassador is my favorite head combo for my recording custom maple snare. Cool vid

    Dude you're seriously one of the most creative drummers out there. I unintentionally stopped listening to the snare and really started getting into the beats and patterns you were playing. Given your drum skills show finesse and strength but many people who have this don't utilize it and in the way you do. I think that's were talented individuals come in.

    This "dry" sound that everyone seems to complain about is THE snare sound for me... Killing it Ben! Actually considering coming over from Northern Ireland to catch Toska on one of the tour dates, I just really don't want to miss the show!

      I'll try! just working out if there's a logistical and financial way to get to a show... but I'll hopefully catch you at one!

    Just found this video. Like it. Looking for more left hand drummers playing right handed set up. Cool. Any other left hand drummers playing right handed set up I should watch?

    Just curious... Did you bring your own drums set to the rehearsal place? If so, how long is to set-up the drum?

    man Mapex also have a BEAUTIFUL brass snare drum out of the black panther line(the hand hammered one, sledgehammer I believe). I own that one and it has just an amazing overtone that's just gorgeous. and if you decide you don't want it, it just goes away super easy. and it sounds amazing dry aswell

    • @BenMinal
      @BenMinal  5 років тому

      Absolutely! I played a Mapex brass snare for ages and it was awesome

    I see ur set up has changed a bit. 2 toms as well. Is that a 8" aero splash. I have one and absolutely love it.

    • @BenMinal

      Always mixing it up! Yeah that splash is a beast isn't it?!

  • @andyham6094

    You should do a review on a Tama slp snare. Black brass or dynamic bronze or g bubinga or g walnut. This snare is tuned little too low and floppy for me and with the moon gel. I mean it sounds good when smacking it but ghost notes and dynamics is horrible when tuned like that for my preference and imo. I usually use a medium or medium low tuning, Get the best of both worlds of fat low tone and response and sensitivity. Also the snare wires I def have tighter than in this video.

  • @BoyAditya

    Please make a video and ask Yamaha to lend (or give :-P) all of their snare availabe now to compare.

    Sounds great. I bet it can be annoying trying to setup that open handed kit setup on small stages where guitarists have 4x12s etc right next to you and leave hardly any room on the left hand side for your ride(s)!

    • @RabeaMassaad
      @RabeaMassaad 5 років тому

      satellite wish. Hahaha dude he used to have 5 toms, a full 3 sided rack, and I think we counted 19 cymbals?!? Hahah I’m glad those days are gone. Although would be nice to see Ben Bozzio rise again.

    The way you're beating the shit out of it you could play any old snare drum and it would sound pretty much the same.

    • @BenMinal
      @BenMinal  5 років тому +1

      I disagree. Having played and recorded a lot of snares with a heavier style you can absolutely hear a difference
