This video was originally released on July14, 2020, as part of Yo-Yo Ma’s #SongsOfComfort project, which was launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide comfort in a time of anxiety and fear. The project inspired thousands of people around the world to upload their own songs of comfort in the months that followed.
As an Iranian and a fan of classical music this is absolutely an amazing treat!!! Two masters playing such an inspirational music together
Two masters playing side by side. It can't get any better than this. I only wish Ostad Shajarian was alive to hear the two of you collaborating. Well done to both of you and more of these kind of musical collaborations, PLEASE.
Yes. I am so sad that Ostad Shajarian has passed away :( may he rest in peace
Master Ma, when as a kid I was learning this piece on my Setar over 25 years ago in Iran, I never thought that one day I'd study music at McGill University and never thought to see You and Master Kalhor perform this! You took a simple piece and played the heavens out of it. The very definition of virtuosity. What a mysterious journey was life! #silkroad #spiritualbrother 🙏🏼
I noticed that in iran every Traditional music student like to start with learning this song.
The sound of that instrument is totally amazing, and what a master musician.
Yoyo Ma doesn't play the base line for just anyone.
Deep,
rich,
and decadent tones are entering into my ears,
dancing,
swirling,
embracing,
and fulfilling the very core of my musical being.
(Thank you, Mr. Ma for another amazing performance.)
Pure poetry!
@@cynthiat6505 Thank you. That's how I feel about Mr. Ma's music. (You are talking about his moving piece, yes?)
Btw, I love your name!
Thank you for the happiness during these hard times. I always look forward to the next video.
Never thought these two instruments can play together and sound so amazing! Great wirk!
This has been such an interesting series.
Iove this simple song it sounds almost Scottish. Beautiful thank you ❤
Mini ve Maxi Çello ne güzel yakışmış! Kutlarım! Hem Doğulu hem de Batılıların dinleyebileceği bir ezgi olmuş. Ne kadar hüzünlü bir melodi!
This was fabulous! I really appreciate the opportunity to hear these instruments from other cultures played by masters...and along side Yo-Yo it is a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you!
What a joyful sound. The earth is dancing beneath my feet.
Sweet sound of the kemancheh.
Curiosity fact: the kemancheh could be tuned like a violin (GDAE)
Thanks I didn't know what the instrument is called. Very cool!
Thank you for such great musicianship across cultures and continents. Bringing people together rather than focusing on divides is more important than ever.
Thank you! You're making my day happy and bright! ☀️❤️
My hat off to both these great masters. Great stuff
Can‘t explain why, but this music made the hairs on my arm stand on end, must say . . . pretty emotional music!
That is an appropriate response. If you want to know, this is a song of simultaneous lament and hope. This is the song of a nation wishing for freedom, struggling to stand back up after being struck down for the hundredth time. I cannot think of a more Iranian song. Look for the cover by Mohammad Reza Shajarian. You may like it.
@@fatemehhajizadehsaffar6882 Thanks, will do.
@@fatemehhajizadehsaffar6882 Thank you for the additional information! I’m a big fan of Persian classical music, and I met this piece through Mohammad Reza Shajarian. Homayoun Shajarian also makes a magnificent rendition of this piece. I don’t know if you know the track “Irane Man” by Sohrab Pournazeri and sung (of course) by Homayoun Shajarian, where there’s a fragment of this piece (Morghe Sahar) in the middle part, and the whole track is truly magnificent! It also has national anthem vibes, I highly recommend you to check it out in case you haven’t, but then again you maybe already do 😊. Also I agree that the lyrics are extremely suitable to Iranian history. Best regards from a big fan of Persian culture from Mexico. Khoda Hafez! 🇲🇽♥️🇮🇷
Oh my God, the droning is killing me, in a good way - with bliss. This is sparkling!!!!
This just fed my soul 🙏🏼💜

That was awesome. And as an Iranian who knows the lyric of this song, I cried and cried and cried once again
Is there someplace to get a good English translation of the words? I would love to know them?

Wow ~~
Très beau! Merci! Une musique qui emmène en voyage!
Is that a Persian instrument? Wow, I'll have to look him up to hear more. Just gorgeous, thank you so much, Mr. Ma and Mr. Kalhor! In the 90s when I was in my early 20s I listened to a lot of Middle Eastern music. It's been a while, so I must revisit it. I wanted to travel and visit Afghanistan and Iran, but then 9/11 happened and extinguished that dream, sadly.
Yes it is called a kamancheh and Mr. Kalhor is one of the best. Highly recommend other work by him, one of my favorities is called "Here I am Alone Again'. It is stunning and beautiful music.
Thank you for what you bring to the world!
Great
So wonderful, thanks.
I love learning about instruments with which I am not familiar. Beautiful; thanks!
Wonderful!

我没有理解生活的时候并不能理解音乐的美。现在闭上眼睛聆听您的每首乐曲,都会引来灵魂最深处的一丝丝涟漪……
thank you i needed this musiic beautful musis bless you both.
