SM Corporation has become the symbol of the Philippines shopping economy. Where do you think is its future headed? Let us know down below!

As the country's largest conglomerate, I hope SM switches from retail/services and venture more towards industrialism and manufacturing. The country needs to industrialise for any hope of becoming a developed nation. As the biggeat fish in the pond SM carries great responsibility for industrializing the country. Please be more like Toyota, Samsung, HHI, and Mitsubishi heavy industries and less like Walmart, Aeon and Ikea

Not sure if he mentioned it but the rise of Filipinos wanting to go to the mall in the 90's is partially due to climate. People with money want to dress nice and do nice things but it's absurdly too hot be wearing layers and staying outside a lot.
The mall became the unofficial parks for the daytime while the official parks usually stay empty until the sun is weak. People go to the malls with no intention of buying anything really but to just hang out and enjoy the massive air conditioning.

What touched me most about SM malls is they give importance to little people like myself. Notice where their public transport terminals are located - right in front of their malls, in the most prime of locations - unlike in other malls where the commuting public has a hard time accessing public transport. I believe they realized early on that it's the combined spending power of the little people that would sustain its growth in the long run, and it's paying off handsomely.

That's because they want people to be tempted into buying more thing inside the mall. Win win solution.

Thats because SM malls wanted to temp you from buying in their mall before going home. Also SM malls tends to be a mall for commoner or those in the middle class at least so they have to make it more accessible but give importance to little people? I don't think so, they dont evem regularize their employees. They dont care about small people, they just want you to spend.

    • @s.t.santos5928

@@skyscraper7664 No company would regularize all staff if their business is seasonal, would you? SM malls have year-round regular staff AND they hire extras during the holidays. Btw, I think you missed my point. Compare the location of SM public transport terminals to those of Ayala and Robinson malls from years back. They must have realized what SM has been doing coz lately, the Ayalas developed that magnificent transport terminal right where the Intercontinental Hotel was, EDSA cor Ayala Ave. Also, all mall owners would want people to shop in their malls, not only SM.

SM tends to attract local communities with the mixed intention of enjoying the free air conditioning and decent mall events, either from nationwide activities or locally hosted ones that SM facilitates.

Give back to community. Increase their wages so they can afford to buy at SM. Pay their college tuitions if they decide to return to school. Have you seen their cashiers at their grocery stores in the mall? Many of them should eat more… so increase their wages. They need calories to do their job. You are milking too much from your workers and consumer. At least that’s what I saw while visiting the Philippines

There’s also the Lim family that founded the New City Commercial Corporation or NCCC. Most of their Malls, Supermarkets, Department Store, ChoiceMarts, etc. are only found in the Davao Region and Palawan only had 1 NCCC Mall

Here in the Philippines, outside of the capital, SM malls are the only clean, well maintained, brightly lit, air conditioned malls and their services are great. Other malls are dirty(lots of roaches), over crowded(they stack aisles so closely together), dimly lit(might as well bring a flashlight), and you'll see lots of cracks in the tiles, poor air conditioning, and out of order restrooms. Outside the capital, I wouldn't even consider the other malls as malls. SM malls even have cinema, arcades, and there's a frickin indoor ferris wheel at SM Bacoor branch(look it up). So, long story short, SM Malls are the best malls in the Philippines though that's also partly because most other mall companies are mediocre as sh!t. But in the capital(Metro Manila area), there are tons of other more luxurious malls but what makes SM Malls loved by us Filipinos is that they branch outside of the capital while most other luxurious malls only stay in Metro Manila. SM Malls even branch out to rural areas, something most Metro Manila mall companies never do.
