    I think that the 5 year return from 2017 to 2022 is more important information than the 2012 to 2017 one that you used. Great info!

    Love the TMNT 1 1st print. Back in 1984 when it was first printed and distributed I must have called over 30 LCS in the yellow pages long distance searching for this book. Fortunately I found one.

    *_Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1:_*
    *_36 in a CGC 9.8, for sure 4 in a SS 9.8. and for sure one Qualified 9.8_*
    *_How many exist in a Blue Label at 9.8? Maybe 50% of the 31. There must be 50% or more Ghosts in that small pool._*
    *_And that might also mean that 50% of the 9.6's are Ghosts. There might be 1 of the 2 Qualified listed in a 9.6._*
    *_What's missing from your analysis is how many copies of each were printed in each edition and a speculation on how many might have been returned._*
    *_And: how many CBCS 9.8's of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 are there?_*
    *_What I really suspect is that there is only 5 in a Blue Label 9.8._*
    *_With one 9.8 selling for $230,000, you'd think the other "31" would have been put up for sale._*

    Purchasing 9.8 high end grails seems more like buying Berkshire Hathaway stock more-so than indexes like the S&P500. With comics the biggest problem is entry price point. I would love a 9.8 but even at $27k in 2017 is not feasible for average buyers.

    I am actively seeking to purchase a first print CGC 9.0 or greater. I lost a 9.2 with a high bid of $19,000 on eBay last week. It went on to sell for $21,320. This week I was negotiating with a seller for a 9.0 on eBay but his lowest dollar is $21,000. Now through Comic Link I see I missed an auction that ended for a 9.0 on 5/31/2023 for a high bid of $16,507. Some of the prices are all over the place & difficult to predict if you pass on what you feel is a high price now, will that turn out to have been a great deal even just a month or two later?
    Anyway, thanks for the video! I enjoyed it!

    Everyone thought I was crazy when I bought my TMNT #1 in 1986 for $140.00. I finally got around to grading it in 2015 and it came back a 9.4. Unfortunately it came back with a purple "restored" label as it has a couple of touch ups on the spine. I now have to resubmit and have the restoration removed and pray the grade carries over. It has never been pressed, so I will do that at the same time. Some day.

    Print 8.5 I only got a few thousand dollars for that a few years ago. Like I told you before thank God I kept some of my books I’m still trying to figure out what my superman 1 5.0 moderate professional restoration pieces added no trimming what that is worth. I bought that about 20 years ago for $12,500 people on UA-cam have contacted me and said it’s definitely over $100,000 there are only about 165 total copies of this book.

      Albedo 2 has a smaller print run in its favor (2000 vs 3000). But, TMNT came before Albedo and influenced this entire segment of the market. I don’t think Albedo will catch TMNT anytime soon, even if it goes mainstream.

    Good video. Another difference: stocks pay dividends. So you are forgoing an income stream if you use the cash to buy comics. Also, you don’t need to insure a $230,000 investment in an S&P 500 ETF, or worry about damaging it…

      Good points, but not all stocks pay dividends. Amazon doesn’t and Apple currently pays .57% annual yield. I feel ya on the insurance cost though.

    In 10yr time your are not wrong David the potential of a 9.8 hitting 1 million isn't that crazy... To go from 27k in 2017 then 4yrs later 250k wow..

    • @Chris-es3wf
      @Chris-es3wf 2 роки тому

      It's easy Fed money. The price of everything has quadrupled since 2017. I doubt it hits 1million before 2050 and it'll come back down to 100k between now and then. Can't extrapolate the last few years into the future as they are an outlier.

    How's come TMNT is so hype but everything you explained in your intro could be said for Power Rangers too. So why doesn't Power Rangers get the love? Maybe a good video idea :)

    • @lchamp7946
      @lchamp7946 2 роки тому

      TMNT originally debut in comic books and gained crossover popularity afterwards. Can’t say the same about Power Rangers, Transformers, GI Joe, etc. Because of this it’s an apples to footballs comparison.

    • @HalfmoonsPicks
      @HalfmoonsPicks 2 роки тому

      @@lchamp7946 Transformers started as a Toy/Marvel Comic Collaboration in early 80's.
      Power Rangers started in TV in 1993 then comics in 1994.
      TMNT in Comics in 1984 then TV 1987.
      Only G.I.Joe was different. Comics in 1942, Toys in 1964 and TV in 1985.
      But all similar in my opinion. So why isn't the popularity? A good question right?

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  2 роки тому

      Tmnt was a comic book. Also the popularity of the tmnt is way way more then power rangers. Turtles had a Broadway/music show. Can’t say the same for any of those others. Tmnt the first movie was the biggest independent movie of all time.
