- Darrell Jolly was. Born on November 17, 1946 in Wabash, IN to George W. and Marjorie (Jenkins) Jolly. For schooling he attended the South Side Elementary School, Junior High and High School Wabash. He graduated in the Wabash High School Class of 1965.
A year after graduation Darrell was drafted into the US Army and took his basic training at Fort Riley, KS. Advanced training immediately followed and by Christmas of 1966, Darrell was in Vietnam as part of the 9th Infantry Division. Six months later on June 8, 1967 he was wounded by a bullet in his left arm while on patrol in the Mekong Delta. Receiving medical care at Dog Tay, he would be awarded the Purple Heart for his injury.
Following his time in service and return home, Darrell would work at the Honeywell Center for 30 years, retiring in 2010. He also worked at the Old Kettle Saloon and managed the Elks Lodge Bar in Wabash. Not only was he a member of the Eagles and Elks, he also belonged to, and was very active in, the American Legion Post 15 and the VFW Post 286 of Wabash.
Darrell Lee Jolly passed away at the age of 67 on December 22, 2013 in Wabash, IN and was laid to rest in Falls Cemetery, Wabash, IN.
This audio interview was recorded on April 23, 1985 by George Dingledy as part of the Wabash Carnegie Public Library Oral History Project.
From 1970 to 1987 Wabash Carnegie Public Library and members of the community worked on an Oral History Project that interviewed multiple people in Wabash. These were recorded on cassette tapes, which were later converted to CD in 2006.
