Overall Taus is a bigger instrument and louder, whilst the dilruba is a miniature version. I myself dilruba player have found that Raj Musical Dilrubas are very loud. Speaking generally, dilrubas get louder the more you practice on them. Taus will give you a loud sound from the first time you play it providing it is well tuned.

india....punjab particularly...some say it was made by Guru Gobind Singh Ji while some say he popularized it
