15:19 Hahaha , those two swings beside the river have two Thai words on the board are quite interesting and creative.
ขึ้นคาน and ลงคาน . If you literally translate the words they means "clime up to a beam and clime down from the beam". But we use the beam word as being a single status in Thai.
Therefore ขึ้นคาน (clime up to a beam) actually means "be a spinster" and ลงคาน (clime down from the beam) means "No longer single"

It's funny to hear you talk about the fermented crab dish and "a rabbit's dinner." My wife eats both very often. I tease her because it stinks terribly, and I call the plate of greens "rabbit food." My own rule is, if it stinks, I'm not eating it. My wife does a pretty good job of screening Thai food for me, but if it stinks I screen it out for myself. Oh, and it's funny how you say "Mt. Fiji," as in the Fiji Islands, and Chiang Khan as Shang Klan. Hahaha! Good video, Paddy.

Loei is a beautiful part of Essan, I spent a great few days in a village near Dan Sai with me Thai family and friends (we raised money back in Ban Sam Rong nr Khon Kaen to help my brother-in-law's home village nr Dan Dai build a temple). Great party and Buddhist ceremony. Enjoy

To be frank, I never feel the same vibe in Isaan as I do in other parts of Thailand. I could go on but will leave it at that. The warmth of Northern Thailand and the culture of Central Thailand are found in each of these places respectively. This isn’t a judgement but a matter of preference. No vibe better than in CM and CR for this traveler. Paddy, I appreciate your candidness...saying that everything is great is fake. You communicate in a polite but real way. What the viewers sometimes do not process is that not every Thai person welcomes foreigners and you feel this too. It’s part of their honesty. It’s fun getting off the ‘pretend train’ when real dialogue can ensue.

Loei is a very scenic and unique Province with it's strong connection to neighboring Laos with differences in cuisine and architecture from typical Thai. However, it's a pity you spent so much time on your extended introspection of bike, boots and breakfast and not so much on the natural wonders. Your vlog concentrated on just 2 towns, part of a small waterfall and the Skywalk tourist attraction.

Hey Paddy I just saw this today. I have to say you have to learn to eat sotum. Its a wonderful salad. The genuine local ones are really spicy and strong. The ones I have eaten in Bangkok and even Singapore are the milder version.

That soft squiggly piece you showed us in your lap was the skin of the pig. It is boiled first then all the fat cut off then sliced thinly into those little strips. The sum tam you ate is know as 'sum tam Loas', hence the crab. Ask for 'sum tam Thai' and you'll still get the pha rah but minus the crab. When you get to Korat, ask for 'Pad me Korat'. You'll like it.

    Hi Paddy,
Don’t feel bad about the Isaan Papaya salad with Pla Lah (fermented fish). I’m Thai and don’t care for it either. If I buy cooked food like curry at the Chiangmai fresh markets I always make sure the dishes do not have Pla Lah added.
I hope you get to visit Wat Somdet Phu Ruea in Loei’s Phu Ruea district.

You need to go to Chiang Khan at night when Walking Street is open. Also sunsets are beautiful from many of the bars and restaurants overlooking the Mekhong.

    Laab Moo crunchy?
One of my fave dishes if done by the right cook.
Proper Somtam with pla raa is fine if the pla raa is cooked ie boiled before use.
Both the above always with sticky, never steam rice.
And the best versions of the above are always in Isaan.

Did I catch a quick reference to ‘Squid Game’ in the jumps on the glass bridge? 🤣 Looking like a nice area - I’m a Larb lover too man, looking nice but wasn’t it skin in there rather than tripe?

I have to say; Your editing is certainly next level, even the way you ended the video at the same place and the same frame of mind as you started your adventure.
My only question is ~ Finding a place to stay, travelling, choosing the places to visit, filming and talking about the place you`re at. Then, you begin to search for music to fit the mood of the video you`re editing. ~ How do you fit it all in?
Hope you get Dreamy`s oil leak fixed soon, Please be careful not to get any oil on your rear tire, it`s like riding on ice.

okay, that’s NOT a tripe that’s simply just the outer layer of pork skin. Quite chewy and has a subtle bite, but NOT a tripe.

Your face was priceless eating that Som Tum. My wife is from Isaan so I know the dish and smell well. I never eat it becauseof the smell. Larb Gai and sticky rice is always safe. Eventually you will come across the stalls on the side of the road where you can up a bag of live frogs and geckos if you fancy super fresh.
😂😂😂😂😂. You will need to cook them though.

Paddy, Loei isn't really Issan. Issan is Northeastern Thailand. Loei is kind of sandwiched in between Issan and northern Thailand. Keep going east by southeast and you'll find Issan.

I can understand your crabiness after experiencing a similar dining, despite many wonderful Isan Meals throughout the country. After that I can only think think I had been raised on 'Issan light'. albeit a bit a phet! :)
