Ok, this FLCL is a sequel to alternative since we see Kana as an adult and if you notice the sky is pink, which gives us to understand that it is the alternate world that she created with the power of atom. Also this red-haired girl is undoubtedly the version of Haruko in that new world since in the alternative ending the original Haruko gets lost in the portal. I understand many people's distaste for sequels but Alternative was pretty good and this sequel seems to be worked on with that same team, I'll definitely give it a chance!
Bonus points: 0:04 - Atomk's guitar falls from a portal. It may be because its been so long, but I actually can't remember if Haruko had in it Alternative or if she ever got it since she wasn't chasing him there, but rather was on the planet to stop MM. 0:07 - That 'tower' is the spine that was connected to the electric brain that's inside the Irons, the purple 'ghost' creature is imitating the brain. Its implied these brains are the ones creating the N.O channels that allow the hands to teleport to the planets, so Masaki, who is shown having an N.O. portal in his brain reaching the top of the spine is...not good.

I rewatch it every blue moon even to this day and still have the same, confused, content feeling when I watching it. Its vibe is what did it for me. i was so upset to see them use such horrible animation for Grunge but happy to see they went back to proper animation, ill be skipping Grunge and checking this out.
Well, everyone complaining about fooly cooly grunge & shoegaze, but i like it both, the only thing i wish both series had 6 episodes and not 3, but i really enjoyed both of them
I am mixed Grunge being three episodes. On one hand I am glad it wasn't more than three episodes for Grunge because I don't think my brain would handle that much, but on the other hand it could've been better if it was more than three? Shinpachi definitely could've used one more episode to develop his character further, but that's it. Shoegaze I think works better as a three episode show.
An Alternative sequel! I'm super hyped! I wonder if Harumi is related to Haruko! Her name has "Haru" in it, she has the same colored eyes, and she has the same crazy, perverted mannerisms...These 3 episodes will certainly be a treat for FLCL Alternative fans!
She has to be the first Haruko ever! If this is a sequel to Alternative, it surely takes place on Mars and I wouldn't be surprised if this girl was born there, so if it were Haruko, it could fit with the fact that she defines herself as an extraterrestrial. On the other hand, there is the matter of this young woman's name: Harumi, just like the girl with whom the teenager Naota tried to have intimate relations in one of the dramas included in the soundtrack of the original FLCL. That girl had a voice and attitude suspiciously similar to Haruko's.
I think only the original team could, or someone with the same level of nerdness, creativity, imaginative freedom and pop culture knowledge, they just don't get what the first one did right. They just go, "yeah do some teen coming of age metaphor with that medical mechanical thing or haruko and call it a day, I mean FLCL."

@@DRCEQ @Dannithan In FLCL Alternative when Kanna uses the N.O. powered by Atomsk to transfer his entire city to Mars through a portal, which not only crosses space, but also time, taking them to the past (this would explain the reason for the anachrony between FLCL and FLCL Alternative, the second being a prequel to the first, but seeming to be the second that takes place in a time after the first, and why Kanna does not meet Pets again on Mars). If Haruko has traveled in time, it would not be unreasonable to think that there could be two Harukos in the same period of time. I think Haruko's experiences would be in this order: 01-Harumi from FLCL Shoegaze. 02-Harumi from the drama Harumi, (one of the dramas included in the FLCL sonudtrak and which takes place during Naota's adolescence). 03-Haruko from FLCL Alternative 04-Haruko from FLCL. 05-Haruko from FLCL Grunge (I'm not sure about this and I may be wrong because I haven't seen the series yet, and I've been guided by what I've seen in the trailer, mainly by Haruko's appearance and the FLCL character that reappears). 06-Haruko from the FLCL Progressive ending. 07-Haruko from FLCL Progressive.
I always love FLCL series it's just a show for me to just enjoy and feel the vibe with a bonus lesson/message. I don't really get why people hate some of it they might be over analizing it or something to hate it, but to me a good music, a good visual and a good lesson is just always fun to me. To be fair though I don't really get the plot to flat but I do recieved what the series message and lesson on every series that I have watched and I just love it.
Theres nothin wrong with that. im glad you and others enjoy it. I guess for me why I dont watch it is because for me, FLCL had a mystical aura around it. something truly unique and special. something so great and contained in 6 episodes. with the addition of these other series it feels like, to me anyway, its legacy has been dampened for financial gain. this does not mean the other seasons had no inspired people behind them but they are things that tie themselves to a name recognition they have no real business tying themselves to. FLCL was not meant to be an expanded universe or a franchise but thats what it has turned into. I dont have anything against people who enjoy them tho, but I just think alot of others arent in the right mindset to accept these other series. maybe down the line if they hold up, people will re evalute them and find it easier to appreciate them which is sometime necessary for a creative work to find its full critical acceptance.
@@TVindustries5000 Kind of my feelings, I would like one of these continuations to experiment with crazy styles and colors and just stuff that takes us offguard, because for me something that makes the original so appealing is that it felt unique, at least that's how I feel things. PS: Loved the music on the trailer. 🤘🏻
I think that was the thing about it: it was cool, vibey, and interesting while having a main story and theme. Sure, it wasn’t too complicated but it sure was clear: growing up, taking a chance, not being someone you aren’t, accepting the circumstance and just taking a chance. The other things were either light symbolism to wacky moments of things the staff liked. FLCL can never really be recreated. It’s made as it is in a time at a certain circumstance. It shouldn’t be recreated. I’m glad there more stuff but that’s like recreating America Foot the Midwest Emo band. You kinda…can’t.
... FLCL ended for me after the original. The overall feel an aesthetic was unique. Haruko's design and style can never be created the same way again. The vespa was great. Kanti was awesome. This should not be FLCL. It should be its own series without the name attached to it. To me, the original is sacred. I don't think it looks bad, but I think it's trying to desperately be what it once was, which will never happen. It's like Cowboy Bebop. You can never make lightning strike twice. If you like it, go for it, but count me out.
I’m a little disappointed that we haven’t seen or heard from naota or anyone from the old series, but maybe this one will have memorable moments of its own
Thank you Adult Swim & Toonami for keeping things raw, honest and weird. FLCL is so many things, and you know what they say "Never knows best". Until next time.
The first time I heard about the news that FLCL: Shoegaze was going to be released, I thought to myself "I hope the Jazzmaster guitar is featured" fast forward to a few days ago after seeing the last episode of Shoegaze, There it is! I'm glad it was there c: thank you!
Y'know what, I'm usually on the boat that the original should've been the only one...but I actually kind of liked Alternative. It felt like it had a point, and it delivered what it needed to, and introduced me to "Sayonara Universe". So...a continuation of that doesn't seem so bad, at least not when considering the other reboots which just seem to...exist. That said, Alternative is the only one I've rewatched so it could just be a lack of insight. I dunno. If it manages to respectfully carry the spirit of FLCL in at least a somewhat-unique way like Alternative did, then...I'll be satisfied. FLCL changed me for the better, especially the "Swing the Bat" scene & analogy. So, if I can get a second-wind, however smaller...I won't mind.
is it just me or does the animation keep changing with every new trailer?? like the very first one i thought looked rough but now it looks pretty good?
You're right, is like the other guy wants to believe something that isn't there, this looks pretty generic and uninspired compared to the first series.
Im glad as soon as i decide to look up flcl new projects are being made 😂😂 in real time i didnt know grunge was out now this also isnt that the girl from alternative? I will watch this and it will he a fun time. Life is short, why bother to worry and complain about a show you haven't even seen yet. The original FLCL exists and will continue being great; you don't need to defend it's purity or perfection. To those who are optimistic, congratulations on the healthy detachment and the ability to enjoy something without complaining about how it falls short of perfection
Yes I think the original is still best, and you don't have to enjoy the new variations, but nostalgia is a disease that prevents you from enjoying anything new
gotta agree honestly as much as I don't like the other FLCL shows, it's not like the original is tainted. I watched it again recently and enjoyed it just as much as I used to, and out of all the terrible looking spin offs this one seems like it could be fun at least.
this seems to be a good step foward but what makes fooly cooly so good is that its relatable and down to earth, an experience and surreal with passion and love, the other fooly coolies if you can call them that just try so hard to incapsulate what made the first did but touches nothing but the shallow surface, its not just good music, 'basic' characters and haruko

@@ImmaLittlePipI’d disagree on that front because there’s been a lot of good Disney’s done with Star Wars. The Mandalorian, Rogue One, Clone Wars got a proper finale as well as a spinoff starring the Bad Batch, we have the anime OVAs Star Wars Visions, and need I remind y’all of Andor? I think a better comparison would be comparing FLCL with Hellraiser. The first Hellraiser movie was lightning in a bottle and defined the horror genre, and it had an excellent second movie. But the movies after the second got worse and worse, deviating from what made Hellraiser so good and turning Pinhead into just another Hollywood slasher villain trapping the protagonist of the day in a mind game forever

Bonus points:
0:04 - Atomk's guitar falls from a portal.
I wouldn't count on the red-haired girl not being Haruko herself. She somehow always finds her way back eventually.
"Ladybird Girl" by the Pillows. At least they're sticking to the good music.
These new FLCL episodes are like spin-offs. nothing like the original. It's not a bad thing but definitely not what the fans, like myself, envisioned.
I like that these series come out in pairs.
A Prequel Grunge
A Sequel to Progressive
It has some continuity in the series.
I still can't believe both new seasons are short lived like not even 6 episodes. But I'm still happy with what we got because at least we didn't have to wait almost two decades lol
I'm looking forward to this and seeing how Hana has grown along with these new protagonists.
Flcl was there for me at a weird time in my life, and hopefully, this one will be there for someone in whatever way they need it. It might not be for me, but hopefully, it is for them. Dont stop making these, please.
honestly, this is how I'm looking at it. like, sure I do find things to love about the new series, but they still don't hit the same in most aspects (except the music, may the pillows long reign tbqh). I hope the newer series find the people who need them.
As someone who never grew up on the original or the previous spin-offs, I think this pretty cool and I’m happy that there’s new FLCL content with that beautiful OST from THE PILLOWS
This is going to be awesome for kids going through adolescence. But I'm 30 now. I've had my time. FLCL will never hit the same for us.
I never caught with flcl.
I'm 31.
I never lost my puberty drive... Except now, I have someone to put it into
Anyways the OG FLCL is better so I'm sorry for the present teenagers. The good thing is that if they discover FLCL they are gonna see that this is not the first season and will hopefully start with the original anyways.
@@Dekrossas a teenager I chose to watch the og flcl rather than the sequels and when I did watch the sequels looking for more content I had to force myself to go through season 2 then quit
Same age. I never understood flcl and I’m not sure why I loved it so much. I watched it with this eternal dopey look on my face because I was eternally trying to figure it out. I rewatch it every blue moon even to this day and still have the same, confused, content feeling when I watching it. Its vibe is what did it for me. It just didn’t take itself seriously at all, like it was just an anime that hung out casually at a buddies house doing nothing and everything at the same time.
i was so upset to see them use such horrible animation for Grunge but happy to see they went back to proper animation, ill be skipping Grunge and checking this out.
Dude i honestly like thies continuations/rebooots
Said no one
@@Valentin5320 But they literally just said it
She has to be the first Haruko ever!
@@Lobezno90
Maybe Harumi is the Alternative version of Jinyu.
@@michaelirazori9214 I don't think it is, although I'd like to know how you came to that conclusion, if you don't mind.
Pillows song in the trailer is named Ladybird Girl btw.
Even though I think it could have been fine left alone at the first season this looks like a good watch
Just because you could doesnt mean you should
Flcl was a great anime
It was a magical thing that cant be recreated no matter how many times you try
I think only the original team could, or someone with the same level of nerdness, creativity, imaginative freedom and pop culture knowledge, they just don't get what the first one did right. They just go, "yeah do some teen coming of age metaphor with that medical mechanical thing or haruko and call it a day, I mean FLCL."
They're sequels, not reboots.
@@Spwookie
Exactly this
It's not that they can't recreate something as weird or anything it's that they don't attempt to I think being called flcl is ironically holding them back
By having that name they feel like they need to include elements from the original which just sours it
Nothing will ever match the first time, or your 20+ year old nostalgia. Stop being mad and simply move on. Rewatch the original. Love the original. Ignore the new ones. I have Max so I’m watching these two short seasons. So far not amazing but it’s not offending me either. Get over it, it’s not the end of the world. People being enraged should just ignore it lol
@@DuskWolf99
Blaming things on nostalgia goggles is such an over used non argument and is such a cope from consoomers
This looks MUCH better than the mobile ad anime
This isn't like original FLCL and the fact that its only 3 episodes long doesn't give me much hope.
I mean 6 episodes for a anime is pretty short too
@666slateran666 yeah but flcl was always known for being a mini series but now with only 3 episodes they have to rush all the plots and characters with not much time to develop anything
and in top of that... the trailer doesn't feature a SHOEGAZE song, what a scam
@@SlicedReaper_21
FLCL is big enough of a name to make it 6 episodes, if they really wanted.
The fact that they stopped at 3 might mean, that they actually trying to do something new, and not just banking on our nostalgia, like they did with Alternative and Progressive.
I still wouldn't raise my hopes up though.
You do know progressive and alternative came out right?
This looks like a progressive/alternative situation, where the second one is way better. In this case this looks a million times better than grunge
So I guess Harumi is supposed to be the new Haruko of this series. This should be interesting. I’m surprised and happy to see Kana from Alternative back again but this time as an adult.
That IS Haruko, you honestly can;t see it?!
Look at the guitar, it's haruko's "1967 model mustang"
@@HunterNX_s The fact that Kari Whalgren is trying to disguise her voice makes it pretty obvious as well.
@@colleen4ever I can. After watching the entire series, I know that personality of hers anywhere. Especially how he draws guys in like Naota, Ide, Toshio, Shinpachi, and now this guy.
Even if by some miracle this turns out good (hoping against hope) you've already burnt people out that they won't return no matter how many times you've tried
Plus 3 episodes is not enough time to flesh out the characters you need and wrap up story plots
Yeah I don’t know why they decided on three episodes…that’s not good.
Normally i'd agree, but 3 episodes was enough for Grunge. I'm not feeling this new cast butt hen again I wasn't feeling the main cast in Grunge, either but ended up pretty invested
they saw how bad grunge went over, so they released one that looks and feels a lot better lol.
Kanna 10 years later looks soo good! this new girl is probably related to Haruko somehow
I would say it's her when she was young.
@@Lobezno90that would make sense but this show takes place 10yrs after alternative so I don’t think that’s the case
@@Lobezno90 This series takes place either before Progressive or many years after. Doubtful that it's "Haruko before she became Haruko". The timeline doesn't line up after what Alternative and Grunge established as prequels to FLCL proper.
I think Haruko's experiences would be in this order:
01-Harumi from FLCL Shoegaze.
@@Lobezno90 Thank you I needed to catch up to the lore
I wonder if we’ll get a FLCL season that would delve into the origins of the relationship between Haruko and Atomsk
This is the season.
The sequels/spin-offs are bad cash grabs of what was a genuine work of art.

I really like "Fooly cooly grunge" but i needs a part 2, we need 3 more episodes of "Fooly Cooly Grunge"
I'm guessing this is a prequel to the original series
I never would have guessed in 2002 that in the future there'd be this many FLCL sequels.......

I will watch this and it will he a fun time. Life is short, why bother to worry and complain about a show you haven't even seen yet. The original FLCL exists and will continue being great; you don't need to defend it's purity or perfection. To those who are optimistic, congratulations on the healthy detachment and the ability to enjoy something without complaining about how it falls short of perfection

gotta agree honestly as much as I don't like the other FLCL shows, it's not like the original is tainted.

People have stop watching that's why these sequels are failing
And honestly that's why people don't want these sequels the original just can't be touched and shouldn't be it's a lightning in the bottle that can't be recreated no matter how desperately Adult Swim tries

I think a better comparison would be comparing FLCL with Hellraiser. The first Hellraiser movie was lightning in a bottle and defined the horror genre, and it had an excellent second movie. But the movies after the second got worse and worse, deviating from what made Hellraiser so good and turning Pinhead into just another Hollywood slasher villain trapping the protagonist of the day in a mind game forever
literally, that was the entire POINT of Progressive, that the original is never coming back, ever. and wanting other stuff to replicate it is useless, that's why Progressive didn't work. it tried to recapture the original and it realized that it was impossible in the ending.
