This method is genius. We spent over an hour using oil filter pliers and various other tools with no success. Wrapped the rope around and it was off in less than a minute. Thank you for your post.
Glad to hear it helped! So many times ill be away from the filter wrench and I just do this because I always have rope on the boat. Love hearing it helped you out. Have you done any good fishing this year?
Thanks for the great idea. This didn't work for me at first. The rope kept slipping. I put a piece of rubber gasket material between the fuel water separator and the rope. It then worked like a charm. A strap wrench might've worked also
For sure, one with a large enough mouth would work. I think the main point here is he is basically making one of those tools from a couple items that most folks already have handy on their boat!

Great idea!
Thanks!
Thank you! We wrestled with that filter with 2 strap wrenches and 2 breaker bars and it wouldn't come off. The rope finally worked! 🎉🎉🎉
Glad it helped, I still do this a lot because the filter wrenches don't always fit right but the rope does.
Filter wrench wouldn’t fit tight enough. This method worked great!

I agree 100% this is a last resort but the kids lost my wrench strap so had to try something else.
Holy fuck youre a genius.
My bottom half is stuck. Where it collect and drains the water. I see you don’t have that. Anyone any advice?

If only my filter was that easy to get to. It's stuck way back in there 😭
A oil filter tool wouldn’t work?
