Feel like i have to write a short paragraph on why i should get the rope haha. Great insightful video as always Jason. Been trying to catch up with all videos since i came across your channel 3 weeks ago. Your top rope and anchor building videos have very useful. I actually saved one of them and followed it while building a top rope anchor at a cliff last week.

Best rope info could find on UA-cam thank you for making videos. I am new at climbing and repelling and your videos have have helped me a lot.
Good info in this and all the videos lately, been subbed for a while! If you have ever gotten rained on at the crag or on trail with rope strapped on the outside of your pack and had to carry that wet rope a distance, you'll know what I mean 😁 I would argue that dry treated ropes have a place anywhere outdoors, and not just in alpine conditions. Many non-dry ropes are significantly less money, so if someone can only get one rope and a standard rope is what one can afford to get out climbing, then go for it! I know I can find a place for a standard 9.8mm in my current rope stable, to take some abuse on sunny days and keep others in the bag to climb another time.

Phenomenal video on ropes! Last season I picked up an Edelrid 8.9mm 80m for long trad adventures and holy cow those thin ropes are soooo smooth - and 80m is totally justifiable when the rope is that light! You can also link sooo many pitches that you'd never expect to link, and the extra 10m is great in case you need to cut it because it'll still be over 70m. And somehow it's still rated at 7 UIAA falls, which is just one less than most 9.8-10ish ropes!
Yeah, what you'll find as you start to get really small ropes like that that are still dynamic ropes is the core becomes more like a cord and less like a rope so they are able to maintain the same strenght but the rope can feel slightly more stiff than a larger rope that has more "rope" characteristics vs. "cord". Sounds like it's working for you!

My first rope is Mammut Crag Dry 9.8 70m. I love it!

My first rope is a 60m Mammut 9.6mm. My second rope is a 80m beal rope a friend and I purchased it and split down the middle. So we each got a 40m rope. It’s great for the gym and some crags at Sand Rock. It is 9.4mm

Thanks for another great explanation on climbing gear. I learned something from you that I was not aware of and that is gym's typically use static ropes in their top rope applications. I had no idea.
You'll know if they accidentally use a dynamic rope in that application cause you fall like 2 feet on a take.

Bought my first rope a few months back. 70m 10.2mm diameter because it was the cheapest 70m (need the length for upcoming multipitch plans). It’ll definitely be heavy when I get the chance to get out on multi pitches though
For sure... go get a couple multi's in and see how you like it. For multi, I like something closer to 9.0-9.2, it makes a big difference
Good information. I've seen beginners buy half ropes and use them as singles not knowing the difference.
yeah, it was a long time into my climbign journey before I bought half ropes.

Thanks, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of BD ropes as I feel like they "stop and go" a little... do you feel that on yours or is it smooth?
@@summitseekersexperience I've noticed mine does have a tendency to kink up more than my friends sterling rope. I feel like I'm having to flake my rope out more often

! Good stuff (i want the rope). I have heard that it is okay to lead on two singles in a double rope context when you are clipping each one into different pieces of gear so that they are independant from each other. whats your opinion on that?

Fan here! Has anyone ever top roped with a static rope? I’ve only seen static cords used in autobelay, but I’ve never heard about anyone actually belaying with static rope. Seems dangerous

I'll share one inaccuracy in your post: It's not easy to make money on YT, if it was, everyone would do it. I do this channel because I like sharing and learning and giving people the confidence to try and get outside and climb.
