As a long time DIYer (now doing highlights, balyage, and other more advanced techniques), her recs aren't bad, but she didn't use any of the one's most people consider to me their holy grail at sallys. A lot of people like the ion cream bleach. I've used it a lot, it lifts nicely and leaves hair hydrated, but it swells a lot (not as good for detail work). I now prefer the new Bond Bar lightener overall, it's a bit less strong than the cream bleach, but it doesn't swell and it still leaves the hair in good condition. A good DIY youtuber is AKAaislinn
I’m not a hairstylist but I’m still sticking with my professional branded bleach and developer. There are definitely 2 I have my eyes on after the professional bleach test, Framesi and Danger Jones look like amazing products! TY for the content and continued education for those of us that probably could have been hairstylists in another lifetime. ❤
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these strand tests. It’s very much appreciated. You may have a bad impression of the highlighting cap that was in one of the kits.. Those type of caps were a vast improvement over the caps that had been common place in salons prior. The trick with the caps is..the hair can’t be too long or too thick, and hair needs to be clean and free of styling products. Silicone drops can be used..allowing hair to slide through cap without pulling. Most hairdressers that still use these caps never use the plastic hook that comes with them (garbage) Instead, a quality sun-glitz hook is best. If pull through is done correctly, there will be no bleeding. The advantage to using caps is that once lightener is rinsed off (and cap remains) the stylist can make a determination as to whether or not reapplication is needed or toning can be done without ever getting chemicals on the hair that was not pulled through, as other hair is physically isolated.
Thank you for this video. I've decided to try the ultra blond and will do a few babylights and then use a wella toner. Salons have gotten so expensive I've decided to try DIY.

@@MirellaManelli I tried a test small strip and it is definitely a level 9. I'm a solid level 2. It came out Light bananna, no red after 55 min. I have 4 face framing foils in now....I'm wondering how I would set timer as I'm doing this for the 1st time and I'm slow at it. Hence, only a few foils at a time.
I have over 50% gray and a nat 6 n. I used her recommendation for age beautiful- wow!!! Soooo even so soft and took 55 min. Lifted perfectly to level 9! My hair has NEVERdone that. I’ve used blonde me for years and years. Not again!!
Have you tried or tested the Ion cream Lighner which seems to be a lot of DIY ladies go to instead of using the powder bleaches. Also what would be your take on the Wella charm toner series, T 18 seem to be the cult favorite Also, they just released not too long ago 4 new shades.
Been loving all the bleach videos! There are a couple of professional bleaches that I didn't see you try that I hope you'll do a video on. Kings Bleach that claims to have 10 levels of lift, Blonde Solutions which is only available online, Megix 10 which is available at beauty supply stores but not at Cosmoprof, and last Trionics. I've seen their developers at Cosmoprof but not their bleach. Hope you'll do another video on those brands too. Also I wonder if any of these diy brands are owned by professional companies besides the obvious ones like Wella & LOreal?
I kind of expected a better lift from the kit that had 40vol, however it faired the same as the others level wise. And worst for damage factor, which is expected with 40vol, minus the lightening factor expected. I loved how the Generic one looked when you spread it on the hair!

With being a first time DIY hair enthusiast I have always had my hair done and a salon setting. Heavy highlights to a level 10 roots a level 8-8 1/2. For touch ups on the roots keeping the integrity in tact would the Wella Bleach be a good route to go? I was thinking of using a 10 volume developer for 30 mts wrapping head with shower cap and following up with Pravana 10.07 with 10 volume developer as a toner. Your suggestion would be valuable and highly appreciated.
The BW2 was surpising to me! I used to use that one exclusively after trying so many sallys lighteners back in the day to get rid of black haircolor. It was the only one that really lifted that color out for me. Guess not though huh
Could you address either lightener for curls or lighteners with an extra component? Sally carries Matrix Curl Lights that uses an additional Accelerator and is ammonia free. They also have cream oil lighteners.

I am curious how the normal lighteners would compare to these....as i have heard that some of them lift just as much as these or even a bit better and they are just normal lighteners and now ones claiming to lift 7+ levels......and if any of them are better and less damaging than these.

Yes, I have made a video about this hack for those working with vivid tones. They may look slightly different on screen due to lighting purposes. However, the tone was determined by how they compared next to the level finder in person

lol! Well there are many factors we couldn’t test here and one for example is heat. Our body emits warmth which can alter the lightening process.
