And then in series 9 when he was alone in that mansion and saw her picture I actually cried because it showed how much he missed her and that he truly loved her and was struggling to move on without her in his life and trying to except that she was truly gone and wasn't coming back

He doesn't remember how much he cared for her or that she stayed through a regeneration. He also doesn't remember that she almost died trying to save him by jumping into his time stream in The Name of the Doctor or that he would have done anything to save her. After realizing this I just cried through the video.

I know that we sat together, in the cloisters and she told me something very important but I have no idea what she said. Or what she looked like, or how she talked, there’s nothing there.”
This is so perfect. Not only does the song fit in many detailed ways, the editing and choice of clips here does a very good job at highlighting how equal and mutual this feeling / perception of each other really is.
