  • A feature-length documentary about America’s system of public lands and the fight to protect them.
Watch the trailer for 'Public Trust' here: • Public Trust Official ...
Despite support from voters across the political spectrum, our public lands face unprecedented threats from extractive industries and the politicians in their pockets. Part love letter, part political exposé, Public Trust investigates how we arrived at this precarious moment through three heated conflicts-a national monument in the Utah desert, a mine in the Boundary Waters and oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge-and makes a case for their continued protection.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'm from Ohio and the idea of public lands is amazing so of course I'd want this to be protected. I know why we need oil and gas, but those lands are to be set aside for us and untouched. The history and beauty there should never be beneath oil, gas, and rare Earth minerals.

Being a Native American, we don't own the land we are stewards of it. Its our responsibility to see it is preserved and cared for. Our future generations, our grandchildren and their children should be able to view the wonder of our public lands as we do. I'm a full time RV'er, and I use and stay on public lands to enjoy the beauty and diversity of its beauty. I'm at peace there. A well done informative documentary, Thank You

@@richardpalmanteer9798 Yes, and thank god you are still here. Many indigenous people have been slaughtered around the world in order to steal their land. This was always a Global agenda and still is today with the U.N. Agenda 2021 and 2030. The people at the top are our enemies. We know them as the 1% or the Luciferians. They are the instigators for all the wars and terror in this world. They have great knowledge regarding psychology, mind control, and social engineering the masses. They are destroying the planet. Yes, we all must take better care of this planet, no doubt. People buy and consume without another thought as to how something was made and what resources were taken from the planet. Below is a link to a wonderful site in regards to weather modification. The technology is unbelievable. The man that created this site has archived thousands of news articles and patents about the weather weapons. All directed towards the worlds populations on the planet. Also a good book to read is Tavistock Institute: Social Engineering the Masses.

As with our health issues, it never does any good to treat the symptoms, we must get to the root cause. The root cause of all the suffering on this planet comes from the 1% Globalist Luciferians. They hide behind government, religions, corporations, world leaders, medical industry, banking, etc. They say they care and want to help but behind the closed doors the opposite deeds are created by the same people. Why are they so evil? Because they want us distracted from our true Soul purpose and the return to Spirit. I have to thank all the Native Americans for opening many eyes about the land and nature. Many of us grew up with the lack of your knowledge. I think many more are waking up to the abuse of mother earth. I am now reading a wonderful book titled, Spirits of the Earth: A Guide to Native American Nature Symbols, Stories and Ceremonies by Bobby Lake-Thom. What a wonderful book. We should have had books like this to read in first grade, but this is knowledge that the controllers do not want us to know.

As per the article you linked, the NPS has funds that can be administered however need be, they purposely put this money aside for things exactly like this. And the grant that its going to is literally for the preservation and protection historic architecture in Vermont, which literally has nothing to do with "pork" or even touching on encroaching of the public lands that are in place. My two cents as producer of this film and after learning quite a bit about these issues: We can't conflate large systematic problems with limited personal choices. It's just too convenient to make it be our fault, the little guys, when corporate interests are getting away with murder. But we can vote to change out the politicians doing the bidding of the fossil fuel industry and those that refuse to change the system. And as reasonable opportunities and more sustainable choices in our own lives present themselves, yes we should adjust our personal behaviors to reflect the world that we would like to see.

Dankinus Maximus it is a bipartisan bill that he signed to win re-election and is a good thing. Written by both democrats and republicans. And let me add that the bill was first introduced by Democrat and civil rights leader John Lewis RIP, which Trump made no mention of, again showing that he is only doing it for reelection and the personal accolades. If he wins again, he can definitely reverse things, just as swiftly as he did when he office came into office.
Trump IS the only president in U.S. history to have removed more public lands and protection than ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN HISTORY.
Our nation’s unique system of public lands are not traditionally a partisan issue: 12.5 million acres of public land were protected during the Reagan administration. George H.W. Bush protected 17.8 million acres. His son protected 3.8 million acres. And, of course, President Obama protected 548 million acres both on land and at sea, by far the most of any president in history.

I'd like to just acknowledge Woody Guthrie, the writer of This Land is Your Land, played during the credits. I wanted to transcribe here the original lyrics of his song, first written in 1940. Note the political acuity of the 4th and 5th verses, about private property and public hunger, respectively. Those original verses are not included in today's version of the song that we as Americans learn in school at a young age, but they remain a prescient reminder from 80 years ago, that the struggle we face to protect public lands persists now and will persist generations from now.
    1.
This land is your land, and this land is my land
From the California to the New York Island,
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.
    2.
As I went walking that ribbon of highway
And saw above me that endless skyway,
And saw below me the golden valley, I said:
This land was made for you and me.
    3.
I roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts,
And all around me, a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.
    4.
Was a high wall there that tried to stop me
A sign was painted said: Private Property,
But on the back side it didn't say nothing -
This land was made for you and me.
    5.
When the sun come shining, then I was strolling
    In wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling;
The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting:
This land was made for you and me.
    6.
One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple
By the Relief Office I saw my people -
As they stood hungry, I stood there wondering if
This land was made for you and me.

@X Lo They're pretty open about where they have stuff manufactured www.patagonia.com/factories-farms-mills/. It's also not as simple as 'if they truly cared they would be made in america only.' You can also read about the selection process of who they partner with for manufacturing. It boils down to stuff like, how the workers are paid, the expertise the workers posses, the environmental responsibility of the factory, supply chains. You might be surprised, but a lot of this stuff isn't readily available in the US, you can't just flick the 'made in America' switch overnight.

@discorperted Man, who hurt you? You're getting butthurt all over this thread. What are their motives? Did you watch the movie at all, because there was no advertising, no mention of Patagonia other than the credits. Seems like their motive is 'protect public lands,' and the movie makes a pretty damning case for why that is important.

    • @aarons5888
      @aarons5888 3 роки тому

@discorperted So, the message of the film is to protect public lands, so they will be available for the public. That is you and me, not corporations. That is the natives, ranchers, and conservations whose lives depend on access to public lands. What is even your point? GrEeD aNd MoNeY, maybe stop being so vague and actually explain something, critique the movie, expand your position to something beyond sound bites because I seemingly missed the part of the film where Patagonia declares 'BUY OUR STUFF NOW.'
I'm well aware the Patagonia has to turn a profit, as with everyone else, in order to survive as a business. You're not saying anything even remotely profound or intelligent.

    • @aarons5888
      @aarons5888 3 роки тому

@discorperted Pretty sure the NPS will be fine, considering their budget is $4b and the revenue from admissions is around $200m, so I'm really not sure, again, what point you're trying to make there.
There is also a lot more than the NPS when it comes to protecting our public lands, so I'm not sure why you've been so focused on NPS in this entire thread. You do know others exist right?
      Just to name a few
      the Forest Service,
the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
      the Bureau of Land Management
At this point, it is obvious you didn't watch the film, so I'm not sure why you're even bothering to comment on this at all. But, carbon taxes aren't promoted in it either. Holy shit though if they were that would be great. Lets go over what the proposed carbon tax is. Obviously it is a tax placed on the burning of fuels that release fluorinated greenhouse gases; coal, petroleum, natural gas. Those taxes are then placed into a trust that makes dividend payments to lawful US residents. So we get deterrent to use more fossil fuels which we still import a lot of, great. Influence to use cleaner energy, great. A check in the mail, great. Estimates for the average joe? $250 a year. A built in stop on the tax once carbon emission fall below desired levels, great. I see a lot of benefit to move away from fossil fuels, from a cleaner environment to breaking relations with fuck head Saudi Arabia. I'm all fucking for it. NOOOO YVON FOOL ME MORE.
You can also just read about the bill yourself instead of from whatever crazy conspiracy shit you've been watching www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/763 though it will take more than a quarter brain to comprehend it because you're going to have to be able to form your very own opinion.
And again, you're still not saying anything of value. If you just don't like Patagonia, say it. If you're just a brain damaged conspiracy nut, say it.
While we are also at it though, you may want to actually read into the GAOA, which I've seen you mention several times elsewhere, touting Trumps great achievement.
      www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/3422
It is a cool bill, but you probably need to realize that it is meant for infrastructure, not conservation. 65% of the money must be spent on infrastructure, which is great and dandy, the rest can be used elsewhere with approval, but there is this little half baked bit in there where unapproved funds can be reallocated by the President which is largely bullshit.
Its a good start, and the parks need updated infrastructure, but the bill has poison pills slipped in.

    • @aarons5888
      @aarons5888 3 роки тому

@discorperted Admissions are too low, I agree, they should be about 5x more than they are if they'd kept up with inflation. Even still, that wouldn't be more than their budget so what are you trying to say, do you know what a budget is in this context? And yeah, Pat Leahy is a piece of shit, so what are you trying to say, did he make this film, did I endorse him? Is his theft somehow related to protecting public lands from transfer to private entities, cause you know, that film you didn't watch is pretty much about that.
I'm also well aware that most trails are maintained by volunteer organizations, so what are you trying to say? That is generally work that parks never do, if they could that would be cool but volunteers do a pretty great job.
And what thoughts did I copy and paste, can you point them out? Or are you just saying random things because you don't have an actual point to make and no rebuttal or input on the things I said? Have you never been challenged before on anything you've said? Because you come across as a moron repeating the same nonsense over and over. You aren't even following the conversation, answering any questions, or providing any real points. Literally nothing you've said has anything to do with the film. Reminder, this thread is about the film. I can repeat that a couple more times if you still haven't grasped it.
Like this has been fun and all, I enjoy talking to idiots every now and then, but you know you're really leaving this as a one sided conversation and wasting my time.

Thank you for sharing this story, I really appreciate the depth of the story and all the explanations of all the various players in this ongoing conflict. I agree public lands should remain public, the world is becoming a lot smaller and without all these amazing public lands we lose our recreational lands, our history and our spaces where we can quietly reflect on life and all it's wonders

This is chilling. The fact that I live in the same country as people who want to destroy this sacred land makes me outraged. Theses politicians have no place in politics if they are only going to make changes for money and greed. We need to protect the Indigenous Land, and people. Their whole culture and background has been on that land for hundreds of thousands of years. They deserve to have their land and culture protected.

❤ Losing your land and free open spaces is never easy, drinking water and clean air along with freedom of being and living in environment is what many understand only when moving to urban areas.
Doing good for environment is what makes only sense. Some of the most rewarding jobs are in protection of wildlife and natural resources.

Great documentary. I don’t think people have an equal chance to access these spaces and I think that could be a factor in why some people don’t care about this tragic loss. How can you feel the loss of something abstract that you’ve never experienced?

Hey Phil, I'm the producer of this film. This comment rings very true for me in my experience. In fact it is worth noting that not everyone has felt welcome or safe in and around public lands. There are many historically oppressed people in our communities that have not experienced public lands in the positive ways many of us have. We need to double down on making sure public lands ARE for everyone and work to increase inclusivity. "In the end conserve only what ; only what understand; and understand only what taught." Patagonia manufactures outdoor apparel by working with 45 suppliers and factories. It sources from 14 countries including Vietnam, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh. I would like to see a documentary about the working conditions on those countries working for this great company. The irony here... It's a company with an agenda as well. Think why are they doing docs about climate and things related to their products...

Patagonia does a great job at providing wonderful products for enjoying and exploring the great outdoors. Not only that, but they also make sure the next generation has a great outdoors left to explore. Their numerous campaigns about regenerative farming and preserving habitats are all having an impact by raising awareness. UPDATE: This comment of mine originally said, simply, "Second" to convey "I'm second in the queue" since I joined the queue at that time but now I've updated the comment.

What I find scary is the degree to which the public gets deceived and manipulated. Here we see it happening with our public lands. Our politicians sell out to big industry, but what other ways are they selling out. Look at our country, look at our world. Something is very wrong right now. I feel it deeply, the alarm bells are ringing but I can’t identify the danger through all the smoke and mirrors.

I mean I knew but I didn't really know until all the pieces were put together in this heart wrenching documentary. As a Utahn I have watched the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante land grab unfold. I had no idea how insidious it truly is. And now we face hundreds of drilling leases that are up for sale on our public lands. I am hopeful that the legal system will prove to be a win on the pretense that a President does not have the right to take away from the Antiquities Act, only to add. It's basic but it makes sense..

Always enjoys Patagonia’s films. I am always trying to learn and open my views. Sometime I agree sometimes I don’t. I 100% agree that Public land can not be sold. I think that America has to be energy dependent so how do we find a balance? This film shows some serious possibilities of corruption.
Another question this film makes me ask is, the federal government isn’t protecting our lands so why would we give them more control? States can’t take control of the land cause of lack of money to maintain it so they refuse to take control of the land but are pissed when the federal govt doesn’t protect the land how the state and people ask?
Maybe we should be looking for ways that our states can come up with money to protect the states land and take them back from the feds?
People need to have the power to control their states public lands how they see fit for each circumstance.
Last thing.... why in the holy F is foreign company’s aloud to drill or mine on our soil? They give no flying farts about our land nor do they care about our people? Get out

    • @gr3y_eminence

Basically, to your point about the Feds not protecting Federal lands this is super important. I'm in New York, my state and our neighbors have large state parks mostly. Vermont has a national forest right by our beautiful Adirondack park, its huge and forever wild. With Federal controlled lands there are downsides because the idea for national parks goes back 100-120 years. Conservation ideas developed a lot since then. It allow us to hike, well Im addicted to hiking. But whatever activities you enjoy; as long as the state says its okay you can go. But its hurt a lot of Western states. That land if its out in a dry state was originally apart of the post Civil War homestead act which gave settlers small parcels of land from the 1860s, to promote building railroads...the land after Kansas City all the way to the Sierras in California was not naturally producive as somewhere like Ohio. So the scheme was for Washington to help out Union Pacific etc then the remote lands with timber, metals etc were restricted by Theodore Roosevelt but not all were made like Yellowstone. Most is just still federal land, you cant walk on it, restricted space. They sort of tricked us when it was to go to settlers or federal park land but we can't even steward it, those states can't make it available as parkland or forest. Seen, a few videos years ago of legal ranchers having their land encroached. So yeah Im going insane being in New York. But upstate I can hike all I like and no military excercises or anything.

Remember that old people have borrowed from future generations through social security. The U.S. government has 32 trillion in debt but there’s 150 trillion that’s been spent and borrowed and it’s unfunded. If the U.S. sold all their public land they still wouldn’t be able to balance the books. The U.S. is going to declare bankruptcy just like it did in 1971 sometime. I’m more worried about old people starving when the government goes bankrupt then I am about public land. There could tens of millions of Americans dying from starvation.
